As Summer comes to an end, it has been so lovely to see some of our usual activities return with people being able to meet up and enjoy socialising once again. What better away to say goodbye to summer than with the Ackworth 2021 Pram Race. A fantastic community event, just what everyone needed. Congratulations to all our local students who received their GCSE and A’ level results in August. It has been a record year and must come as a relief for many after the chaos of the last 18 months. Good luck to everyone starting new schools, colleges, 6th forms, universities or work. I hope you are given every opportunity to follow your dreams.

Local Author has first book published and it’s a hit. South Yorkshire Author, Melanie (Mel) Hewitt, has just had her first ever novel published by HarperCollins and after receiving some wonderful reviews, is now available to order online at Amazon or to purchase from Waterstones and other reputable book stores. The story covers Penny, who, after a difficult year, is on a pilgrimage to find the ‘Durrells’ on the glorious island of Corfu. The book is beautifully written, and a wonderful escape, especially for those of us who long for a holiday on the mesmeric Greek island of Corfu. Congratulations Mel, looking forward to your next book.

Ackworth 2021 Pram Race got off to a brilliant start after missing last year’s event due to Covid. The event was well attended and everyone had a wonderful time. The annual race gave the local community of Ackworth the opportunity to meet up and have some well deserved fun. Congratulations to everyone who took part and to the organisers who once again provided a wonderful event after such a miserable 18 months.
