Watts Associates have launched their Business Navigator service which they have used successfully with a broad range of businesses. We asked George Watts of Watts Associates what the service entails... ―What we deliver is tailored to each business. We use the analogy of the business owner being the Captain of their ship which is on a journey, and we work alongside the captain as their Business Navigator. We help businesses to see where they are, plan for where they want to go, provide them with navigational aids so they can track their journey and correct course when things don‘t go to plan, make the business work efficiently, identify and avoid the icebergs and arrive at their destination safely before setting off on the next journey. The emphasis is on knowing where you are and looking forward to the future‖ Q “So what exactly does that entail?” A ―Everything is tailored to your business and what you will require will depend upon where you are on the journey. Being Chartered Management Accountants with over 25 years of broad management experience we bring that experience to your business and have both a management and financial approach. We produce the accounts and tax returns and provide appropriate advice as you would expect, but we also work closely alongside business owners and managers to plan and take their business forward, with a clear emphasis on navigation and looking forward. In many ways it‘s a service that is similar to the role of a Finance Director in a large plc, but it‘s tailored to all types of businesses, from start up through to medium and large companies‖
Is your business moving in the right direction? Does your business make the financial returns you expect? Is your business as efficient as it could be? Do you always have a clear view of where you are? Are you in control?
If your answer is yes - congratulations. If your answer is no, we would like to support you. We are experienced in business, financial management, accounts and tax, and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the future direction of your business with you.
Chartered Management Accountants & Business Navigators
For an initial discussion contact George Watts on 01302 842831 georgewatts@watts-associates.co.uk www.watts-associates.co.uk
Q “What results do you achieve?” A ―The results directly depend on what we do. We‘ve helped businesses clarify their direction, simplified systems to make things easier, improved management information and given owners a clearer view of where they are, produced accounts quicker (including earlier production of annual accounts), helped businesses raise finance, increased their profits and reduced their tax. In addition, by working closely alongside people we‘ve learnt about their business and then helped them develop their own business skills, so they are more in control of both their business and their life‖ For more information on the Business Navigator service please contact George Watts on 01302 842831 or visit the Watts Associates website www.watts-associates.co.uk

Auckley Parish Council Newsletter November/December 2010 www.auckleyvillage.co.uk Christmas Celebrations
The Christmas Market will again be held at Main Street Auckley on Tuesday, 14 th December 2010, commencing at 4.00 p.m. There will be a variety of goods available for sale including fresh meat, home-made cakes, Christmas decorations, toys, jewellery, sweets, etc.
„Carols Round the Tree‟ Our carol singing round the tree at Main Street will take place on the following Tuesday, i.e. the 21st December 2010, commencing at 7.00 p.m. The Armthorpe Elmfield Band will accompany the singing and Santa will make a visit. A collection will be made in aid of Comforts for Patients of the Coronary Care Unit at Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
Christmas Tree at Hurst Lane The Parish Council would like to thank DMBC‘s Neighbourhood Services for funding the Christmas tree and lights to be installed at Hurst Lane, Auckley, opposite the Hayfield School.
Removal of Main Street Bus Shelter Council is liaising with the landowner to try and reach a satisfactory conclusion.
Cars Parked on the Highway
Most of the streets in Auckley are narrow in width, consequently vehicles parked on the road can cause congestion and could lead to emergency services being unable to gain access to properties. In the interests of safety, would residents please park vehicles on their drives, rather than leaving them out on the highway.
Parking On Double Yellow Lines Outside Shops The local Police are monitoring the safety situation regarding vehicles parked in front of the shops at Ellers Lane, and will issue tickets to anyone (apart from disable drivers or passengers) seen parking on the double yellow lines. This practice leads to congestion and creates a hazard for pedestrians and motorists wishing to use the highway. It is appreciated, of course, that the majority of customers are not from the village.
Local Bus Service
Council has received a number of complaints from residents with regard to buses not turning up or arriving late on the Doncaster/ Finningley route (Bus Service No. 91). The Parish Councils of Auckley, Blaxton and Cantley with Branton are to request a meeting with a representative of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive to discuss this matter.

Hayfield SCHOOL LANGUAGES DEPARTMENT NEWS!
Germany Trip! On July 4th 2010 some of the pupils in yr8 from Hayfield School went on a trip to Germany and stayed at Hotel Erholung in St Goarhausen beside the river Rhine.
Forty lucky students in year 8 from Hayfield School recently went to the Château du Broutel in northern France and a wonderful time was had by all!
While we were there we visited Siegfrieds Mechanisches Musikkabinett (Siegfried‘s music museum). It was really interesting and we listened to some really original pieces of music. In the mornings we had a choice to get up and go for a run or stay in bed for a lie in. I got up and went for a run by the river on most mornings because you saw the sunrise behind the castles. It was amazing!
I have some amazing memories from France. Some I will remember forever. Now I don‘t regret those early morning 6am starts at the Château. We stayed in an historic chateau in spacious rooms. The meals provided maximum fill-up and opened up opportunities to eat French cuisine.
Along the Rhine there are lots of different castles; one of them is Burg Maus where we watched a fascinating falconry display. In the 6 days that we spent there we went wine tasting, swimming, shopping, German bowling, mini-golfing, had a boat trip down the river and went on 3 chair lifts! On the last day we had a talent competition. There were a variety of acts ranging from singers to comedians and we had our own panel of judges. I decided to enter and sang for everyone! I was very pleased when they gave me the highest score and I won a big bag of sweets! It was a great trip and we all really enjoyed it! Thank you to the teachers that took us and organised it: it was fanatastic! By Amelia Kitchener

We travelled around Rue and Amiens as well as visiting a chocolate factory and a snail farm, sampling both but preferring chocolate! But the place I enjoyed the most was Paris! On the way up the Eiffel Tower I was shaking really badly as it was exceptionally high. We stepped onto the viewing platform of the tower and it was all worth it as the view from the top was spectacular. Afterwards we went on a relaxing boat trip to see more sights. As you girls out there should know, no trip to France is complete without a spot of shopping. So we went to Amiens and after visiting the magnificent gothic cathedral, we had a good old shop in the centre of town. From the information evening to getting off the coach at school it was just amazing; even the mosquitoes couldn‘t spoil it! By Sophie Moseley

Fine Dining With Laurent Berges Venison and Duck terrine Terrines tend to be underrated in the UK. Terrines are very flavoursome and are easy to make. They can be prepared a couple of days before, thus giving you more time with your guests, and still provide a great looking and tasting first or second course! Most high profile restaurants will have terrines on the menu several times during the year. Many Michelin Starred chefs have perfected terrines to an absolute art. The recipe below will be a perfect Christmas dish. It is a great start to making terrines. The idea of the terrine, is that when sliced and beautifully presented on a plate, it offers great visual effects and very specific, concentrated flavours.
Ingredients (Serves 8-10):
For the forcemeat mixture: 600g best sausage meat 1 organic free range egg 1 bunch of parsley, chopped 1 handful of finely chopped lemongrass sprigs 12 juniper berries, crushed 2 garlic cloves, chopped 25ml of cherry brandy, a large spoon of goose fat 25 ml of red wine, a large spoon of organic double cream Salt and pepper For the game meat mixture: 500g best venison 500g best duck breast (the large fat kind) Sunflower oil, for frying 400g best streaky bacon
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/Gas Mark 3. Top of Form Remove the rind from the bacon slices. Stretch each slice out using the back of knife. Line a ceramic terrine dish with the bacon, carefully overlapping the slices, and leave long ends hanging over the sides to fold over later. In a large recipient, mix together all the ingredients for the forcemeat. Cut the venison and duck into long strips, heat some oil over a medium heat in a frying pan and fry the two meats separately for 8-10 minutes each until browned. Reserve aside. Layer the forcemeat with the fried game meat (starting and ending with forcemeat), seasoning as you go. You can either mix the duck and venison or make each layer a separate meat. The trick is to pack the layers tightly and fill in all the gaps with forcemeat, aiming for a dense texture. When you reach the final layer, neatly fold the bacon strips carefully over the top to seal. Cover with the terrine lid or kitchen foil. Place the dish in a roasting pan half full of water and cook in the oven for about 2 hours. You may need to add more boiling water several times during cooking. The terrine is done when a skewer comes out of it piping hot. It is essential to press down the terrine as it cools – preferably overnight. Use a dish that just fits within the edges of the terrine and weigh it down with something heavy. Carefully remove the terrine from the cooking dish, without breaking it. Use a very sharp knife to slice the terrine into 1.5 cm slices. Present each slice on a large white plate. Garnish with micro salad leaves, splashes of olive oil and balsamic vinegar vinaigrette, sweet chutney, buttered dark rye bread and warm toasted French bread. Notes: if you are confident with making terrines, you could add layers to the recipe above. For example, you could add flavours and colours by creating layers with asparagus, leeks, red peppers, or even nuts. The visual result will be outstanding!

FINNINGLEY PARISH COUNCIL Website: www.finningleyvillage.co.uk Newsletter - December 2010 Village Pond
The question of the water quality in our village pond has been a long held concern for the parish council and many of the villagers. We have tried a number of ways to get rid of the algae, all without success. The Parish Council is very aware that the pond is a central feature of the village and will continue to try and make the pond and surrounds something of which we are all proud. If you have any ideas on how to get rid of the algae, please get in touch.
Playing Field
The playing field committee is happy to report that Doncaster Cricket Club will commence regular cricket matches on the field in the 2011-2012 season. As well as bringing much needed extra revenue to the Playing Fields Association they will provide extra week-end viewing for users of the play areas. Dog walkers are always welcome, but do remember that the playing field bye-laws require your dog to be on the lead, and that you could face a fine if you do not clear up your dog‘s mess. Responsible dog owners rarely get any recognition for their part in helping keep our village clean by clearing up their animals‘ droppings whilst out and about, so here is a thank-you to those of you who do, it is appreciated.
Winter
As the bad weather looms and the nights have drawn in, please keep a check on elderly neighbours and the vulnerable in the village. Remember too that crime is a 24/7 industry. If you do see anything suspicious at any time please report it to the police.
Notice Board
The board for the parish council notices is now situated by the duck pond.
Finally, your parish council would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year

News from Branton St Wilfrid’s C.E. Primary School Official Opening of the Remodelled School We were very pleased to welcome Steven, Bishop of Sheffield, together with parents, relatives, pupils, governors, colleagues from the Diocese, architects, contractors and friends of the school for a special service to officially open and bless our remodelled school building. Our building work lasted for 10 months, January to October 2009, and our building team returned at the end of July and through August of 2010 to complete the refurbishment and reroofing of the school hall. In this time, essentially a new school has been created within the envelope of the old building with all classrooms either rebuilt or remodelled, new link corridors, new toilet and cloakroom facilities, new study room, new library, new ceilings and lighting, heating, classroom sink areas, new flooring and redecoration throughout. A major part of the building work was our new pitched roof, which replaced our former flat roof which leaked in many places. Bishop Steven led an engaging service for the pupils and our Jubilate Club sang beautifully. Class 2 Visit to Abbeydale Museum-articles by Jasmine and Joshua When we arrived at Abbeydale Museum we met Florence Nightingale. She was packing her trunk. She put in soap, a hot water bottle, a lantern, a chamber pot, sheets, bandages, scrubbing brushes and she took her cat. The girls dressed up as nurses and the boys dressed up as soldiers. The soldiers were dirty and covered in blood. The girls had to put clean sheets and bandages on the soldiers and clean up the rats. After that we split into two groups. One group wrote with old ink pens and the other went to the forge. By Jasmine Truman When we got to Abbeydale Museum we met Florence Nightingale. She showed us a picture of the Crimean War and she was cross. She asked if she could be a nurse, but her parents said no because it was a dirty job. When Florence got to Scutari Hospital there were soldiers who were ill. She was very cross because it was dirty, so she asked the nurses to help. She was very bossy and told them what to do. She said I need clean sheets and bandages putting on the soldiers, so the nurses did that.

Class 6 Visit to Eden Camparticle by Ben On Wednesday November 3rd, Class 6 and I went to Eden Camp, which was a Prisoner of War Camp in World War 2, and is currently a museum about the war. The first thing we saw when we arrived was a static display of World War 2 aircraft and land vehicles. The camp consists of a series of huts which show different aspects of the War. Hut 1 was about the rise of Hitler and the Nazi Party. There was quite a lot of writing in this hut. I found out how many people came to listen to Hitler speak - there must have been hundreds of thousands! I enjoyed Hut 5, which told me about the Blitz in World War 2. It was horrible to have your house bombed. If you were in your house when it was bombed, you would either be killed from the smoke of the explosion, or your house falling down. Hut 6 was the Music Hall, where we watched a puppet show about World War 2 entertainment. There would be shows to lift people's spirits up, so they would not think they would get bombed at any minute. These shows would be lively, and would include songs which people could sing along to. I really enjoyed Hut 20, which was about the Bevin Boys, who worked down the mines. The only light in the mine was from the Davey Lamp. It was very hard to see where you were going in this hut! This was a very good school trip. I found out lots of facts about World War 2.

Remembrance Day Every year we sell poppies and collect contributions for the British Legion, Year 6 pupils study what life was like during World War II and we always observe the two minutes’ silence, as it is so important for our children to learn about the sacrifice made by so many in the service of our country. Many thanks to the Parish Council who send us a poppy wreath each year. This is a focal point for our acts of worship around Remembrance Day and the wreath is taken to St Wilfrid’s Church, on behalf of all the children and staff, for the Remembrance Sunday service. ChristmasFayre Members of the local community are welcome to join us for our Christmas Fayre on Friday 3rd December 5-7 pm. Father Christmas will be in his grotto and we will have many craft stalls, tombola, white elephant, mulled wine and refreshments etc. with all proceeds going to our School Fund. This year will be our best raffle ever. We are very grateful for the generous support of the www.ebuyer.com company, who have donated a brand new boxed 32 inch LCD television for our first prize! Doncaster Advanced Motorists Beyond the Standard Driving Test Seasons greeting to you all, A good gear change is so smooth that your passengers won‘t even notice it has taken place. To achieve this smoothness, you must select a gear that matches the engine speed and road speed, and you must use the accelerator and clutch skilfully. Your goal is to drive as smoothly as possible all times. Drivers often get a false perception of how smooth their driving is, because they have the steering wheel for support. Ask your passengers for an assessment of your driving smoothness, or watch them in your peripheral vision. If they are rocking around as you negotiate a roundabout or corner, your technique isn‘t smooth enough and needs more work. When changing up a gear, release the accelerator and depress the clutch simultaneously, and only press the accelerator again as your foot is releasing the clutch. Expert timing will produce silky-smooth changes every time. When changing down a gear, you‘ll increase smoothness by matching the engine speed to the road speed with a brief blip of the accelerator. Good gear changes re also good for your car (and wallet). They keep your clutch and gearbox in excellent, condition for longer and save petrol. Poor gear changes and ―riding the clutch‖ causes expensive premature wear. Block changing-changing gear from say, third to fifth or fifth to second in one movement is an important part of Advanced Driving. Advanced Drivers make excellent progress by applying firm acceleration whenever it is safe and applicable. This could often mean reaching a 60mph speed limit in, say, third gear after an overtake manoeuvre. What is the point in changing from third to fourth and fourth to fifth just to maintain the same speed? This is an opportunity to minimise your driving inputs (and your fuel consumption) by changing straight from third into top gear missing out fourth gear. Like wise on approaching a roundabout or junction, slow your speed, by using your acceleration sense or brakes, and then select the gear for your exit. This may well mean changing straight from fifth to second. You should always aim to make gear changes after braking and before you turn the steering wheel. This produces a smooth, safe, progressive and economical drive, which your passengers will really appreciate. If you are interested in further information regarding the courses that we offer, you‘ll be able to find this information on the Institute of Advanced Motorists website at www.iam.org.uk or Tel: 020 8996 9600 Have a Merry Xmas and a very happy new year. A Treadmill for Christmas? You can probably tell by my physique that I used to be a member of a gym. To give you some idea, think of Gavin Henson‘s muscles on Strictly Come Dancing. Thought of them? Yes? Well I‘m nothing like that! But I did once go regularly to the gym. I didn‘t mind the rowing machine, the cycling machine, the cross country skiing machine, or even the steps machine, but I hated, detested, abhorred, the running machine – the treadmill! That small area of material that never ends; it keeps turning, ever faster, and has the ability to take you from vertical to horizontal in a split second! Occasionally, the TV would be switched on too, so not only did you have to try and remain upright, keep up with the speed, monitor your heart rate, and attempt to breathe on a fairly regular basis; you also had to contend with the distractions that the Jeremy Kyle Show threw at you. As I ran, somewhat out of control and giraffe like, the following words would often come in to my mind. Round, like a circle in a spiral Like a wheel within a wheel. Never ending or beginning, On an ever spinning wheel Like a snowball down a mountain Or a carnival balloon Like a carousel that's turning Running rings around the moon
Jack, Hannah, Joseph, Neil and Catherine
On the machine was a huge red emergency stop button, there were many an occasions when I wanted to press it, however the fear that the machine would stop, throwing me headlong into the TV screen, and causing me to plant a huge kiss on Jeremy Kyle, was enough of a deterrent to stop me from hitting it. Eventually, I stopped going to the gym, and yes you can tell! I‘m not as trim and healthy as I could be. The treadmill experience put me off and I forgot what the gym experience was all about – the good of my health. The whole experience was taken over by the never ending treadmill, which I believed I had to do because everyone else did it. Why didn‘t I just get off? Christmas can be like that, a treadmill, a wheel within a wheel, a snowball down a mountain. We get caught up in all the paraphernalia and forget that Christmas is really about celebrating the birth of Christ. Why not jump off the commercial treadmill of Christmas, remember what it‘s really all about, and not forget that Christ is good for your spiritual health! I pray you have a Christ filled Christmas and peaceful New Year. Blessings Revd. Neil Redeyoff St Saviour's, Auckley & St Oswald's & Holy Trinity, Finningley
