Community News Edenthorpe Neighbourhood Development Plan We are a working group, formed late 2016 and were successful to have Edenthorpe designated as a Neighbourhood area, registered with Doncaster MBC on December 20th 2016. The designation can be seen on Edenthorpe Parish Council webpage under the Neighbourhood Plan tab. The Parish Council and community of Edenthorpe came to the conclusion that a Neighbourhood Plan would benefit the area in light of recent applications for development and felt it necessary to create local planning policy to help influence the level and locations of future growth in a positive and proactive way. The group are focused on the Neighbourhood Plan being a positive planning document that seeks to allocate land for an appropriate level of development on the most suitable sites. We have prepared school surveys which have kindly been completed by the children of Canon Popham school, we are awaiting responses from Hungerhill School and Edenthorpe Hall Academy. A village survey will be distributed shortly by many willing volunteers, to every household in Edenthorpe. In addition, we are holding two consultation events - a drop in session at Edenthorpe Community Centre (meeting room) on Monday 22nd May between 4pm – 8pm where members of the working group will be available and also at Edenthorpe Junior Football Club Summer Gala - Playing fields off Marian Road, Church Balk, Edenthorpe on Sunday June 4th between 10.30am – 2pm. (The Gala will run from 10am -4pm). Hopefully both these events will be well attended and give residents the chance to chat about their visions for the future of the village. Please feel free to find and follow us on Facebook: Friends of Edenthorpe Neighbourhood area Plan.

DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. On Monday 1 May our guest speaker was Steve Payne whose subject was Myanmar, the Time Machine. This was an illustrated presentation about the country Myamarr, which those of us of a certain age still think of as Burma. The “Time Machine” in the title referred to the fact that the year date in Myamarr is in the 1300’s, not the 2000’s of the Western world and although businesses use the current Western date, many in the countryside prefer their own system. The talk covered the extensive culture of the country as well as comments on the political situation. Later in the month, on the 15th, we welcomed for the first time Peter Davis, the former Elected Mayor of Doncaster. This was a timely presentation, falling as it did just after the Mayoral and Local elections in Doncaster. There was an outing to The National Memorial Arboretum near Lichfield on Thursday 10 May. On the ’sporting’ front, the Danum Probus crown green bowling season got underway towards the end of April at Armthorpe Community Centre. Janet Canning from English Nature will be our speaker on June 5 the speaker and the subject will be the Humberhead Peatlands. There is also a meeting on Monday June 19. Any interested men who would like to come the meetings as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, please call either Geoff Firth (01302 849734), David Allen (01302 885813 or John Gregory (01302 532032) for more information.

Hatfield Town Cricket Club It’s been a busy start to the season for everyone at Hatfield Town CC with all our sides being in action. In the Junior Section, it’s been a delight to see the first ever Under 9 games played at the ground. The boys and girls have acquitted themselves amazingly well against more experienced opponents, Goole and Fishlake, and played with great enthusiasm that will see them improve as the season progresses. The Under 11’s produced an impressive team performance in their first fixture to beat a strong Goole Town side. They battled really well and secured victory with two boundaries in the last over of the game. After an abandoned first fixture at Tickhill the Under 13’s returned there the following week and achieved a memorable 5 run victory in which every player contributed well to an excellent all round performance. Everyone is looking forward to seeing them continue the great start throughout the season. Training is every Friday night at Carr Side Lane from 6:00pm onwards, any children wanting to join in are welcome to come along, we have sessions for all ages from 5 upwards. The parents ar well catered for with the bar and kitchen open. Please contact Junior Cricket Manager Richard on 07740215350 if you’d like more information. Our Sunday XI, captained by Talib Hussain, were the first of our senior sides in action securing a hat -trick of wins to start the season in great fashion before being pegged back in their last two fixtures. They’ll be looking to get back to winning ways soon and get back to the top of the league. The 1st XI are again competing in Division One of the Pontefract League, with new captain Luke Cockburn now at the helm. They began with two difficult fixtures at home to Askern and away to Ackworth CC. Despite periods of dominance in both fixtures they suffered frustrating defeats in both games before securing victory at home to Frickley when Ellis Pattison returned to the side and scored 57 before taking 5 wickets to see Town home by 15 runs. They will be looking to build on this victory in the coming weeks. The 2nd XI started with a disappointing defeat at Ferrybridge before securing two convincing victories against Frickley and Stainborough, skipper Craig Pattison has lead the way with 63 and 117 not out, with all the bowlers chipping in with valuable wickets. In the Snaith Evening League the weather interrupted a good start at home at home to Outcasts Cc with Town on 56-1 when the heavens opened, they made amends the following week away at Hirst Courtney with a convincing 7 wicket victory, Luke Cockburns 48 not out securing victory. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter or visit the clubs website to keep up to date with fixtures and results.

In South Yorkshire, we the Police, refer to a ‘Crime calendar’ in relation to the type and volume of crime we expect to occur. Crime statistics prove that at different times of the year, certain crimes increase in number. We adapt or introduce a strategy in an effort to combat these increases. During early spring and into summer, the number of sneak-in burglary offences increase, along with thefts from sheds and outbuildings in gardens. As the good weather improves, people often spend more time outside in their garden; this can be time spent relaxing or working in the garden itself. Whatever your reason for being in the garden do not leave your house door unlocked. If you are in the rear garden and not in sight of the rear door, secure that door as well. Offenders have and will continue to take advantage of the weather and simply walk into houses with unlocked and in some cases, open doors. If you are inside the house, require some ventilation, and decide to open a window, always secure that window when you leave that particular room. If a window is open, the thief can reach in and steal anything within reach or open the window and climb into the room. I am preparing my garden for the growing season. My lawnmower and garden tools have been serviced, cleaned and sharpened. I am lucky in that I can secure my garden tools and car in my garage. Garden tools such as mowers, trimmers and strimmer’s are in demand during the summer and if left unattended in a garden or an open shed or garage, they will be an easy target for a thief. Lock away your property when not in use. I have marked my lawn mower, hedge trimmers etc. with my postcode and house number using an electric engraving tool and then highlighting this using bright yellow paint. By marking it visibly, you are making less attractive to someone else and therefore it is less likely to be stolen. Even thieves prefer pristine unmarked tools; they can sell it for a higher price. Burglary prevention advice can be found on the South Yorkshire police website at http://www.southyorkshire.police.uk/sites/default/files/4-9-14%20Janes%20approved%20artwork.pdf
