Community News Mothers' Union Barnby Dun Mothers' Union prepare to celebrate marriage. As we look forward to sharing in the celebrations of the marriage of Prince Harry and Meghan, we remember the importance of families and family life. Mothers' Union helps to promote and support this in many ways. We are planning a ‘Family Fun Day’ on June 16th in Doncaster at St. Francis church West Bessacarr, celebrating family life and showing the community what Mothers' Union is all about. At Barnby Dun we are having a ‘Celebration Afternoon Tea’, the theme being ‘Marriage and Weddings’ with a guest speaker and fascinators galore. “Marriage is a gift of God in creation and a means of his grace; it is given that a husband and wife may comfort and help each other, living faithfully together in times of need as well as in plenty, in sadness and in joy, in sickness and in health; it is given that with delight and tenderness they may know each other in love. And live life in the community; it is a way of life created and hallowed by God, that all should honour.” Speakers for our future branch meetings at Barnby Dun are:May; Sue Woodcock, Yorkshire Post Columnist. June; Jan Travis, Flowers July; Canon Gordon Taylor, at Rokeby Gardens We meet on the first Wednesday of every month at 1:30 – 3:30 in our church hall. Visitors always welcome. I hope that you can enjoy the spring weather, as it has finally arrived as I write this. For more information Telephone 01302 882637

Community News DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. There was only one indoor meeting in April because Easter Monday fell on the first Monday of the month. We met on Monday 16 April when the speaker was Pat Maclaughlin who gave a presentation entitled “The History of Mining”, a very appropriate subject for Doncaster and its environs. As usual with Pat, we all enjoyed a well researched talk. Outdoors, the Crown Green Bowling section started their 2018 season at Armthorpe on Wednesday 4 April, and they will meet every Wednesday morning at 9-45 until at least September, weather permitting. In May our Speakers are David Beardsall and Christine Johnson. On Monday 7 May David’s subject is “Annapurna Circuit” and on Monday 21 May Christine will be telling us about “The Wonderful Life of the Honey Bee”. Both meetings start at 10am at Town Moor Golf Club. Caravan Crime

It is the time of year when the caravans hit the roads again, with holidaymakers removing their caravans from storage and preparing them for the journey to those sunnier climes. However, the seasonal shift of the caravan can bring new opportunity to the potential offender. Whilst caravan crime in South Yorkshire is far less a problem than in many other areas of the country, simple precautions can often deter that opportunist thief. Here are a few simple guidelines to help keep your caravan safe. Use one or more of the following, in order to immobilise your caravan. Consider installing a ground anchor on your hard standing, which will allow the ‘van’ to be secured by way of a heavy-duty chain or security bar. Use good quality wheel clamps. Lock the coupling head into a cover using a good-quality hitchlock. Use locking-wheel nuts. Security marking helps the police identify and return stolen caravans or their contents to their rightful owners. It will deter the opportunist thief. Since 1992, all National Caravan Council recognised manufacturers have stamped the 17 digit vehicle identification number (VIN) onto the vehicle chassis and etched it into the windows. If your caravan is not marked in this way, arrange to have your chassis number etched onto all your windows. You could also mark your chassis number or postcode inside cupboards and on the soft furnishing base boards. Remove the soft furnishings (such as seat cushions), and store them in your loft. If you have overtly marked the base boards with the VIN or your post code, then on inspection the potential offender will see all the security marking through the window. Consider fitting a tracking device to help police or the system operator track the caravan if it is stolen If your caravan is stored on a site, check to see it offers good security always remembering if you can enter the area where the caravan is to be stored easily, then so can a thief. Several national caravan owners clubs now run a caravan identification system. If possible register your caravan to help identify the caravan if it is stolen. Always close windows and any roof lights when the caravan is unoccupied. Have a reliable alarm fitted and turn it on even when you leave your caravan for a short time. Wireless and battery alarms area available with a range of up to 400 metres, which will alert you inside the house if your caravan has been entered. Similar alarms but with a SIM card installed will alert you if your caravan has been entered even if you are miles away from it. Lock your caravan and store keys in a safe place, out of sight and away from windows and doors. Never leave CRIS registration documents or purchase receipts in your caravan. They will help a thief to sell it on. Remove all valuables when the caravan is not in use. Any item that has to stay within the caravan should be property marked by any one of the recognised methods. For further information please contact the Doncaster crime reduction officer at Eamonn.larkin@southyorks.pnn.police.uk The following web sites will provide further information on products and services in respect of caravan security. www.soldsecure.com www.nationalcaravan.co.uk
