Welcome to the November issue of the Barnby Dun & Edenthorpe Arrow. This year is just flying by, I can hardly believe its November already and it’ll soon be Christmas! Don’t forget to send details of any festive events that are taking place or any special Christmas news items. I have received lots of news and information this month which I have tried to squeeze in to this issue. Please send any Christmas news or event details that you would like including in the December issue before Thursday 12th November. As yet I haven’t planned anywhere to go for Bonfire night, but I’m sure that I will be attending a fire or firework display somewhere. Just remember to stay safe and enjoy the fireworks!

Community News The Rancheros, Line Dancing for Charity, is run by Tracy, Anita, Sandra and Wendy. We are now based at Edenthorpe Community Centre. We have been holding line dance classes and events at many venues over the past 15 years, including Pilkington's Recreational Club, the Rugby Club, Wheatley Golf Club and even the Dome where we held an event for over 550 dances. We raise money for charity through our weekly classes and our party nights and have raised almost £95,000. We donate to many charities, including 3 guide dogs, Rio, Alvi and our latest pup Eden, two medical assistant dogs, Barton and Karry and have donated to The Heart Foundation, MacMillan, Marie Curie, and many units at our local hospital. (See list on our website, it's endless). We have classes on Mondays from 11.30am-2.30pm including tea breaks and on Thursday evenings from 7.15pm-9.30pm. Both classes are of mixed levels and will suit anyone that can line dance. Money raised from entrance fees, tea/coffee etc goes to charity, so as well as enjoying an evening of line dancing with friends, you are actually donating to charity as well. The more that attend our classes, the more we raise! Our website is www.rancheros.co.uk. Edenthorpe War Memorial In 2014 was the start of the dream to give Edenthorpe a piece of history that would be recognition to all the brave people of our then small rural village by having its own war memorial This would show to all the people that pass through our now bigger Edenthorpe that we pay honour and thanks to those brave families who lost son's father's brothers uncles of the brave fallen who lived in Edenthorpe to show that they are not forgotten but will live on to be respected in the future years to come So as this dream comes to a close when we say this is end of this journey when people were asked to be part in this dream they gave it their best effort. As a committee we planned it would be a seven year path that we were to start upon. Because of your work and effort enthusiasm and dedication to our common cause you brought it to 2016 very much closer than we imagined. We had a couple of problems in our way like the person who told us the planning application was sent it and this proved to be a untrue It put us back of the plan by 2 moths but we soon overcame this and with the help of Doncaster planning department we were soon back on track it meant that we had to postpone the dedication of the War Memorial by a couple of weeks. This Memorial was dedicated a day that will long be remembered and hundreds of residents came and stood to pay respects to the fallen. Last week we had a service to add a brave young man who was killed in the Falklands war aged 26 his name was Anthony Sillence he died along with 13 others while serving on board HMS Glamorgan on 12 June 1982. Anthony was buried at sea Members of his family his mother sisters also his daughter came to the service also sailors who were members of the HMS Glamorgan association as did over 100 villagers and later on we walked pat the house he lived in on our Waggies club to have a drink and a chat together the War Mem Committer laid a wreath on behalf of the residents of Edenthorpe We also gave out flower to people who have given us great help Mrs Mr Radley. Mrs Mr Docherty Mrs Sillence mother of Anthony Sillence. The War Mem Group will hold the last meeting on Tuesday as our dream came to fruition and we will disband We have been asked to form a group named Friend of Edenthorpe War Memorial this group will have powers only to see all is in place with the memorial We have applied via the Parish Council for a grant to lay a larger paved area around the memorial The War has been registered with the war Graves commission. This year there will be a service of remembrance at Edenthorpe war memorial on Sunday November 13 starting at approx. 1050 am If you would like to lay a wreath at this service on behalf of any person/group/club/regiment you are most welcome to do so Please let us know who and we will call out the name. So as chairman I thank you all on behalf of Edenthorpe War Memorial Group for the support you have all given us to get this project completed.

Back It Up! We frequently get customers coming to see us because they have lost their treasured information. This can consist of photos, videos, documents and music in the case of private customers, or accounts, spreadsheets, and invoices for business customers. The first question we generally ask is “do you have a backup”, to which the reply is often a blank look. It is vital to protect any information that is important to you. Such information is stored inside your computer on a ‘hard disk’; hard disks can and do develop faults which in the worst case mean that the data on them cannot be retrieved except by a specialist firm who will charge several hundred pounds. Apart from faulty equipment, viruses can also encrypt data and render it illegible and effectively gone forever. So how to protect yourself? Simply by backing up your important data. There are several ways to do this, each with good and bad points. For example, services like Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, iCloud and Dropbox include a fixed amount of free ‘cloud’ storage with additional amounts available at a cost. Also some internet security packages include an amount of online storage. However, an easy way that does not involve signing up for online services is simply to use a USB memory stick to copy your valuable files onto. These are available in sizes up to 128GB for a few pounds – more than enough for most people. For larger amounts of information, you can use an external hard disk instead, these are more expensive but can store much more data.
