Welcome to the February issue of the Barnby Dun & Edenthorpe Arrow which is also distributed to Kirk Sandal. Thank you to those clubs and organisations that send me news items to include. I would still like to hear from any other groups etc that would like to have any information putting in the magazine. Also send me any telephone numbers you would like to see in the ‘Useful Numbers’ section at the back of the book. I’ve had some great comments from advertisers about the amount of work they have been getting as a direct result of advertising in the Arrow. Please contact me if you would like any details regarding prices etc. The deadline for the March issue is Wednesday 14th February.
Best Wishes Julie Morrell

Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough expects 31st of January to be year’s busiest day for debt and energy advice. The last day of January is expected to be the busiest day of the year for people seeking help with their debts and energy bills, according to Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough. Analysis of national data from the past 12 months reveals that on 31 January 2017 Citizens Advice helped 2,800 people, 30 per cent above the daily average. This means one person sought help from Citizens Advice every 10 seconds across the country. 30 January was the most popular day for seeking advice online, with twice as many page views as average for the rest of the year. Locally, Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough is expecting around a hundred people to seek advice on debt and energy matters throughout the first month of the year. Citizens Advice provides assistance to people seeking help for a wide variety of debt and energy concerns, including council tax arrears, credit card debt, rent arrears, unsecured or payday loans and higher than usual energy bills over the winter. To help people kick off 2018 on a stronger financial footing, Citizens Advice is sharing its top tips to help people get their finances in order for the New Year. Karen Bothamley, Chief Officer of Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough, said: “There is always a surge in demand for our debt and energy company switching advice towards the second half of January. “Christmas in particular can take a heavy toll on people already struggling to make their money last and leave them with a debt burden in the new year. But this needn’t become a crisis - problems can be taken care of if you seek advice early.” “The New Year is a good time to get on top of your debts, cut your costs or budget better. Citizens Advice can help you review your situation so you can make decisions that improve your financial security.”
Citizens Advice Doncaster Borough’s top tips to sort out your debts: Work out how much you owe - Make a list of who you owe money to and add up how much you need to pay each month. If you don’t have your most recent statements, contact your creditor to find out what you owe. Prioritise your debts - Your rent or mortgage, and council tax are called priority debts as there can be serious consequences if you don’t pay them. These should always be paid first. Separate these and work out how much you owe. Work out how much you can pay - Create a budget by adding up your essential living costs, such as food and housing, and taking away these from your income. Any money you have spare can be put towards your debts. Citizens Advice budgeting tool can help. Paying urgent debts - You may have several priority debts and can’t pay them all. Contact all

your creditors to find out if you can negotiate on how much you pay, or when you pay them. Always pay first priority creditors who are taking action against you. Paying non-urgent debts - If you have any money left after paying priority debts, Citizens Advice can arrange a free debt-management plan and contact your creditors to offer them what you can afford to pay. If you can’t pay your debts - If you’ve got little or no money spare to pay your priority debts seek advice from us straight away. Consider switching energy suppliers to save money – Citizens Advice can help you with this and can often save you a substantial sum of money

Festivities at Thorne Camera Club On behalf of Thorne Camera Club, Happy New Year to one and all, we hope 2018 brings all you hope for. In the run up to Christmas, members and guests of Thorne Camera Club enjoyed a Music and Colour Spectacular Show provided by the Leeds AV Group, with Phill Brady. There was music, colour, comedy and fun in the presentation, a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment, so much so that moves are afoot to make this an annual event. Then came the Christmas Social, in essence, a party, where all members were invited to get together and indulge in a buffet supper, some games and quizzes, and activities which help to bolster the finances of the club. Members had varying degrees of success in games of bingo, a tombola, plus other things to do, as well as enjoying a sumptuous buffet provided by the members themselves. A well attended event, everyone had a great time, rounding the year off well, and a change from the more serious activities of the club. During the lull in Camera Club events and meetings, there has been ample opportunity to get out and about with our cameras looking for fresh inspiration and possible images for forthcoming competitions in the New Year. Dreams of a white Christmas may not have come true, but there have been plenty of other photographic opportunities. For those of us who were fortunate enough to have Santa bring us some new equipment, for example a camera, a lens, or perhaps some new software, the break will have allowed us to find our way around all the new features and find out how it all works. The first event of 2018, a New Year Meal at the Punch Bowl Inn in Thorne, started the year on a similarly festive note, before we once again launched into our Spring programme. Before long the days will noticeably lengthen again, trees and plants burst into new life, the temperature will rise and members will once again be enthused and inspired to look for new ideas and images. On a final note, if you would like to become a member of Thorne Camera Club whether you are new to photography or an old hand, whatever age or ability, why not contact our Chairman David on 07463821182 or e-mail: thornecameraclub@yahoo.co.uk to learn more about the club and its activities, or just come along to a meeting on a Monday at 7.15pm, at the Methodist Chapel, King Street, DN8 5BA . You’ll be made very welcome.
