Clouds Counsellors are working hard to support and help you and we are keeping our 4 new counsellors very busy along with the rest of the Team! A further three counsellors will be joining as shortly bringing the Team to 19 and some offering more than one session of three clients weekly to approximately 90 clients per week. The Service has received over 130 referrals this year and the new Bereavement Support Group that is being held at The Old People’s Centre Thorne is proving popular and helpful. We plan to run one more this summer so please ring us if you would like a place. Our Bereavement Support Worker is extending her list shortly so if you need Bereavement Support Clouds can help. darts wins funding from The Big Lottery to continue successful creative work with adults in Doncaster darts (Doncaster Community Arts) has secured funding of £279,623 from the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund to continue delivering Creative Directions - a five year project which uses art activities to help adults living with mental health issues in Doncaster. Artists working on Creative Directions design creative activities to encourage self-expression, help develop new friendships, learn new skills and ignite new passions. Lucy Robertshaw, Assistant Director at darts said: “We're very happy to receive funding from the Big Lottery Fund for this much in demand project which responds to people's individual skills, talents and abilities and allows darts to build and develop its expertise of working with adults facing mental health issues.” The workshops are free to any adult experiencing mental health difficulties or feelings of loneliness and stress. Since Creative Directions started in August 2015, artists have worked with 204 people who experience a range of mental health issues. Mark Ward has been attending Creative Directions for 19 months and the story of his personal experience was part of the successful funding application to the Big Lottery Fund. He said: “I feel fortunate to have lent my support and voice towards the funding bid - I can state from my own personal experience how important Creative Directions is - not just for myself - but for so many others. Creative Directions provides a vital avenue for people with a wide scope of

support needs to get involved and feel part of a community in a diverse creative setting.” Creative Directions runs every Wednesday at The Point on South Parade and is open to anyone over 18 years who is experiencing mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, stress or feelings of loneliness. In the mornings people are invited to join us for a cup of tea and drop in creative activities or to come to our artist-led sessions between 1.303.30pm. Lately the group has had a go at recording their own songs, creating short films and making new art work. No experience of the arts is needed. Everyone is creative and capable of expressing themselves in their own way. Anyone interested in joining the group can just come along to the next session or contact Amy Knowles at The Point on 01302 558041 or email amy@thepoint.org.uk.

Quotes from Creative Directions participants: “I’ve become a stronger person. I’m more focused on the way I express things, my confidence has grown and I feel a lot brighter in myself, I’m making friends.” “I’m a lot more adventurous about trying new things that I didn’t like to do or believe in myself I could do.”

DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. Our guest speaker on Monday 5 June was Janet Canning who is the reserve Manager of Natural England’s Hatfield Reserve. Janet’s subject was “The Humberhead Peatlands”, the area covered by Thorne, Hatfield and Crowle Moors. This is an important ecological area because it is a large boggy area on the drier eastern part of the country. Until comparatively recently, there had been commercial peat extraction on Thorne and Hatfield Moors, as well as gravel extraction at Hatfield. Janet told us about the work being done to restore the Moors to something approaching their former condition, and how water retention, and grazing off of unwanted undergrowth was paying dividends. There was a lively question and answer session following the talk. On June 19 our speaker was Malcolm Walpole telling us about the Legacy of the Emperors During the middle of June (11-15) some members and guests went on the Club’s Annual Holiday to Perth, where they had an enjoyable time. The Member’s Lunch will be on Monday 3 July (12 for 12-30) and the after lunch speaker is John Wallis talking about “Northern Relish”, and on Monday 17 we will be back to normal when Tony Brodsworth will tell us about the “Black Death”. Any interested men who would like to come the meetings as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, please call either Geoff Firth (01302 849734), David Allen (01302 885813) or John Gregory (01302 532032) for more information.
