Also let me know if you have used any of the businesses in the magazine and any comments regarding their work, products etc. Its good to have recommendations. Please forward any details of fundraising events, School Summer Fayres etc that you would like including in the upcoming issues. The deadline for the July issue is Friday 14th June. Community News DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. Tony Barber was the speaker on Monday 15 April. Tony’s presentation was entitled “The history of the St. Leger, the World’s Oldest Classic Horserace. This was a fascinating account of the ups and downs of the race since its inception in 1776 until the present time. It started as what was called a sprint in the 18th century ie 2miles in one heat only, not about 4 miles in several heats in the same day as sued to be the case. And with coming of the railways, the race became very popular with trainers and spectators. On May 6 Tony Dodsworth was “Following the Much Pichu Trail”. This Presentation was about getting to the Machu Pichu ruins on foot walking from Cusco in 4-5 days. Although the total distance of this hike was not huge (20 odd miles), the fact that it was done at altitude, much of it up and down not very level stairways, makes it quite an achievement. The effort involved in this well organised adventure was eased by having porters carry luggage and set up camps. This was a different insight into what one usually hears about Machu Pichu, and very welcome for that. And on May 20 Neville Williams’ subject was “The Yorkshire Wild Life Park”. On June 3 David Adgar will speak about “The Berlin Wall”, and on June 17 Nicola Fox’s subject will be “Cudworth Hall and the Battie-Wright Family”. Any interested men who would like to come to these meeting as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, please call either George Kirk (07808191211) or Geoff Firth (01302 849734) for more information.

Community News HTCC Pavilion Project News Since the last issue there has been some amazing news with regards to our plans to build a new community pavilion. After several months of hard work by the committee Sport England have committed to providing £75,000 partnership funding towards the project. The confirmation of the award stated 'awards at this amount are rare and so it is positive that the panel agreed your project was worthy of such investment'. The club are now pursuing every possible avenue to find the funding to match this and help bring the project to fruition. If you would like to assist with the project n any way please get in touch with the club at hatfieldtown@outlook.com On the field it's been a positive start with all the sides recording victories. The 1st XI currently sit second in Division Two after convincing wins against Streethouse, Whitley Bridge and Pledwick. The 2nd XI have won both their completed fixtures, against Ryhill and West Bretton, in convincing fashion but were thwarted by the weather when in a dominant position away at Featherstone having posted 264/6. The Sunday League side have also been dominant in recording 3 straight wins to sit top of Division 3 and the Evening League side started their season off with a 10 wicket win at home to Doncaster Town. It's been a frustrating time for the junior sides with fixtures being affected by the weather and opposition team withdrawals. The new Under 9's team did manage to record a victory at home to Warmsworth. The ladies Softball Cricket team are also now training each Friday evening at 6:00pm and looking forward to beginning their fixtures, if you are interested in getting involved get in touch with Joanna on 07982 729749.

South Yorkshire Police Male Voice Choir

In October 1925 the Doncaster County Borough Police formed a Male Voice Choir to perform at the Doncaster Grand Theatre in order to raise money to buy boots for the less well off children in the Borough. Over time the choir's name changed due to force amalgamations and today the choir is known as The South Yorkshire Police Male Voice Choir, probably the oldest police male voice choir in the uk (94 yrs) with the same charitable ethos. Many concerts both home and abroad have been performed in front of many people and on Saturday 1st June 2019 at Hall Cross Lower Academy School at 7pm the choir will be in concert with guests The Doncaster Youth Swing Orchestra, compare is BBC Look North Presenter Phil Bodmer. Tickets are £10 to include interval refreshments and are available by phoning 01302 539284. Donations from a share of the proceeds are to be made to the Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust and DonMentia, the local Dementia charity group. New members are always sought. Further details on membership can be found at www.sypmvc.org.uk or contacting the choirs secretary on 01302 390579 or email malc@malbee.plus.com

Roger chose Michael Jackson’s Banana Whisk first, Getting the Point by Colin Jarvis second and Jean Goodburne’s Patterns in Utensils third. In the Open section, the standard was quite high. Eventually Roger decided on Gothic Queen by Lynda Ulyett as his favourite, with Bee on Tulip by Doreeen Hookway second, and Steampunk Lady by Terry Gunnill third. Commended and Highly Commended were: Julia Jackson, Michael Donnison (2), Sharen Thompson, Ian Thompson, Jean Goodburne (2), Lynda Ulyett , Doreen Hookway and Colin Jarvis. Since then, practical sessions and tutorials were led by members. Affinity software was discussed with useful instructional presentations for guidance. Photostory 3 was also demonstarated, with the addition of sound to the visual presentations giving a new dimension to previous sessions. During the summer months, as well as the Summer School, members will be able to go on outings to places of interest. The Autumn programme commences on 16th September.
