This year is just flying by, I can hardly believe its November already and it’ll soon be Christmas!
Please send any Christmas news or event details that you would like including in the December issue before Thursday 14th November.
As yet I haven’t planned anywhere to go for Bonfire night, but I’m sure that I will be attending a fire or firework display somewhere. Just remember to stay safe and enjoy the fireworks!

Hatfield Town Cricket Club
On behalf of everyone at the club we would like to say thank you for your support in the season just finished. Yet again it was a season of development on and off the field.
Our Junior section continued to grow and we are now the 'go to' club for children playing the game in our area.
The senior section saw the men win yet another Divisional title and the ladies play their first season in the top hardball league and they did so with great credit.
This was achieved with a great mix of youth and experience which bodes well for the future.
Off the field we opened our new changing and toilet facilities specifically designed for use by both women and men and we celebrated our 150th anniversary which amazingly got us a congratulations in the House of Commons!
Another year of great progress for our charity club which could only be achieved with the support of our volunteers and much valued and needed sponsors.

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST
Halloween and bonfire night…..hope you all enjoy the festivities and stay safe.
We are thrilled to report that we have finally donated a second ultrasound machine for the Urology Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary at a cost of £117,604. This will help in the diagnosis of prostate cancer which is now the most frequently diagnosed cancer in the UK. The additional machine will be used in DRI Theatre to avoid transferring the expensive kit which poses a significant risk if damaged. The original older machine (before our two donations) will be utilised at Bassetlaw as part of the development of a one stop clinic.
Don’t forget our annual Memory Tree will start in the Frenchgate Centre on Monday, 25th November until Saturday, 7th December (excluding Sunday, 1st December) from 10am to 3pm daily. It doesn’t seem a year since we were last there! We have an interesting variety of new tokens to purchase in memory of your loved ones and, of course, you can write a message to place on the Christmas tree in the Centre.
If you need to get in touch with us our contact details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (passageway to the left of “Bake Battle & Roll), first floor (lift available), Room 104. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk.
As the office is not fully manned it is best to Email or telephone in advance if you are thinking of coming to see us.
We look forward to seeing you at the Memory Tree.

Friends of Quarry Park
The volunteers had an educational morning at Quarry Park recently when Mycologist Kevin Gilfedder guided us on a Fungi Foray. We were surprised and delighted with the number of varied species of fungus we found, including Poison Pies, Ink Caps, Crumble Caps, Purple Brain, Puff Balls and Death Caps! Most of these are poisonous so you wouldn’t eat them! We only covered a small area of the park as we kept stopping for Kevin to identify and describe the characteristics of each species we encountered so unfortunately, we ran out of time, but no doubt there are many more across the park. Huge thanks to Kevin for his time, knowledge, and enthusiasm, we all really enjoyed the experience.
After a very wet week, it was a beautiful morning on 4th October for our Work Party. Rangers Chelle and Sam joined an amazing seventeen volunteers, along with Kelly and Tom from TCV (The Conservation Volunteers). TCV brings people together to create, improve and care for green spaces. From local parks and community gardens to Local Nature Reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest; connecting people to the green spaces that form a vital part of any healthy, happy community, and supporting local community groups across the UK.
Four volunteers had a scything masterclass with Tom who demonstrated how to set up the scythes and gave instructions on the safe and effective operation. We had a brilliant time and really enjoyed the task and the opportunity to learn a new skill. Huge thanks to Kelly and Tom for arranging this activity, we will definitely be doing it again!
Another team set to work in St. Mary’s wood removing overhanging branches and thinning out weak or dead branches and trees. This is an ongoing task which will continue during the winter months to ensure the pathways are safe and accessible.
Other tasks included the planting of bluebell bulbs in the woods, hedge trimming and clearing overgrown shrubbery around the car park. The intrepid litter pickers did a sterling job as always, collecting 3 large bags of rubbish and a child’s bicycle which our rangers took away. We all enjoyed refreshments at the end with Julie’s delicious cake.
Another brilliant morning, splendid work everyone.
Work parties are usually held on the first Friday of each month, weather permitting. There is always plenty of work to be done, including litter picking, clearing paths and cutting back vegetation. Equipment is provided but please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear. The next events are scheduled for Friday 1st November and Friday 6th December 10am – 12 noon, meet at the picnic table. Full details will be published on our Facebook page ‘Friends of Quarry Park’ or you can email us at thequarrypark@gmail.com or call us on 07546 595144.
