Moving Forward at Thorne Camera Club As Summer comes to a close, Autumn follows on, and the Camera Club transition from outdoor to indoor meetings goes smoothly. New members are encouraged to join the club activities, to gain confidence, experience and ability in their Photography, in a friendly atmosphere. Some members, having progressed over the past five years, are now looking towards outside exhibitions, salons, and distinctions. One member gained an LRPS last year. The final outing of the Summer Programme took a dark turn, as members went into Doncaster one night to try some low light photography. Meeting by St George’s Church ( the minster ), illuminated at night, some good shots were recorded, then came the tricky bit. Traffic trails are not so easy to capture, but near the Hub is a good spot to try. The backdrop of the college, with street lighting, plus red and white vehicle lights, makes a great combination, the occasional blue light being an added bonus. With tripods on the substantial grass verge, members found a safe place, with a good view, to try their hand, with help from other members, or just by trial and error. A lot of excitement was created by the novelty of the situation and interesting, sometimes surprising, shots taken. A social gathering in the Punch Bowl Library found members and guests getting together for a chat about the summer, holidays and family news. Family and visitors were welcomed equally to this informal start to the Autumn Programme. From now on, meetings will be in the Methodist Church Hall on Mondays at 7.15pm, from September 17th, except October 1st. Certificates will be awarded for those who studied during the summer on the Photographic Improvement Course. The Autumn Programme is packed with ways to improve your photography. Members share pictures - holidays, wildlife, family or other interests. Friendly competitions are held occasionally, often with a visiting judge commenting with a view to helping to improve the standard. Practical activities using cameras, tutorials to help with software, demonstrations and discussions, as well as visiting speakers, are all in the programme, plus some social events near Christmas. All levels of photographic expertise is represented and newcomers are encouraged, as well as more able photographers wishing to gain distinctions, such RPS or PAGB. Help and advice is given where possible. If you think the Camera Club would be of interest to you, you can come along to a meeting, or contact David on 07463821182, or email thornecameraclub@yahoo.co.uk.

Hatfield Town Cricket Club
After a tough season the Hatfield Town CC senior sides found some late season form and produced some exciting performances that bode well for the future. After a spirited performance in defeat away at Old Sharlston, where Alec Elliot took 5-38 there were wins at home to West Bretton and away at Hooton Pagnell. Connah Pattison 4-26 and James Winstanley 3-30 reduced West Bretton to 160 all out before an excellent 70 from Andy Cutts and 20 from Shehzad Hussain saw Hatfield home to victory, finishing 162-8 to earn their first victory of the season. They followed this up with a spectacular run chase at Hooton. After making a blistering start Hooton were pegged back to 219-9, by Shehzad Hussain 4-54, with Winstanley and Elliot picking up two wickets apiece. At 43-4 in reply Town looked set for defeat but Sharafat Hussain produced a remarkable display of clean hitting in an innings of 115no backed up by 43 from brother Talib and 24no from Shezad to see Town secure victory in the final over at 222-5. The 2nd XI have matched this show of spirit, first by giving Garforth 1st XI a close game when Talib Hussain hit 69, supported well by 13 year old Johnson Hynes in a defiant last wicket partnership that proved just short of setting a challenging target. They then travelled to Ferrybridge 1st XI where 32 from skipper Craig Pattison and 27 from Sharafat Hussain saw them reach 116 all out on a challenging wicket. John Severn rolled back the years to take 5-14 supported well by James Stafford to bowl the hosts out for 92 for victory. This was then followed by a home victory over Bullcroft Main when Severn turned batsmen to hit a brilliant 109 no in a total of 261. All the bowlers chipped in to bowl out the visitors for 126 with another youngster Josh Platt starring with 3-25. Away from the senior sides, the summer camp proved a big success with over 20 children attending each of the three days with the professional and enjoyed a fun packed time. The Friday night training sessions have now come to an end, with over 60 children on the register this bodes well for the future of the club and the local community. Another exciting addition for next season will be ladies softball cricket for age 11 upwards. Our initial taster session provided by the Yorkshire Cricket Board was well attended and we will be looking to expand this next season. As the season ends this is a good time to say a BIG thank you to everyone for their support throughout the season, We are fortunate to have the backing of volunteers, sponsors, parents and players from within the local community and without everyone of you the great work we do with the local children would not be possible. We are holding an end of season celebration evening at Hatfields on Saturday 13th October with a disco and live music it should be a great end to the season. Everyone is welcome to come along, for further details checkout out our Facebook page and website or contact Chris on 07709805416.

Community News DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. At the second meeting in August (Monday 20), Tony Brodsworth spoke about Joseph Locke, the forgotten man of railway engineering in the nineteenth century (not to be confused with the Irish tenor). This Joseph Locke was born in Attercliffe and had strong connections with Barnsley. In his day, he was a man of similar stature to Brunel and the Stephensons, his work being mainly on the civil engineering side of the industry. He is particularly remembered for involvement in the construction of the Woodhead Tunnel. On Monday 3 September Mike Store entertained us again with more “Masters of Mirth”. His presentation mainly featured music hall comedians of the early twentieth century and included a short history of them followed by a little of the most famous part of their acts. Unfortunately the meeting of Monday 18 September had to be cancelled because of the late unavailability of the venue. But on Wednesday 20 September we met at Branton Village Hall for the Bowls Lunch.. After an excellent buffet lunch, the Bowls Trophies for this year were presented. In October meetings will be on Mondays 1 October and 15 October. At the first one David Templeman will speak about “The great Sheffield Deer Park” and on the next one George Young’s subject is “The Boer War”. Both meetings are at Town Moor Golf Club starting at 10am. Any interested men who would like to come to these meeting as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, please call either George Kirk (07808191221) or John Gregory (01302 532032) for more information.
Police Drop In sessions for Kirk Sandall, Edenthorpe and Barnby Dun, dates are as follows... Wed 17th October, Wed 21st November. All sessions will be held between 10am-11am at the Church Balk Centre, off Marian Rd, Edenthorpe.
