Welcome to the February issue of the Barnby Dun & Edenthorpe Arrow which is also distributed to Kirk Sandal. Thank you to those clubs and organisations that send me news items to include. I would still like to hear from any other groups etc that would like to have any information putting in the magazine. Also send me any telephone numbers you would like to see in the ‘Useful Numbers’ section at the back of the book. I’ve had some great comments from advertisers about the amount of work they have been getting as a direct result of advertising in the Arrow. Please contact me if you would like any details regarding prices etc. The deadline for the March issue is Thursday 9th February.

Best Wishes Julie Morrell Contact Details: Tel: 01302 351760 Mobile: 07854 880882 Email: julie@arrowpublications.co.uk Website: www.arrowpublications.co.uk

Cyber-crime is one of the fastest growing crimes both nationally md internationally. It affects major companies, small businesses and individuals. Major crimes involving large companies may often become a victim of cyber-crime but keep quiet about the crime as customers could lose confidence in the company if details were publicised. Small businesses could be affected to such an extent that they could lose customers, valuable and sensitive information or even cease trading. An individual could have their bank accounts emptied, have their computer infected by a virus and lose all their files or have their computer used to carry out a dedicated denial of service to a larger company. A few simple tips can help reduce the chances of cyber-crime happening to you or your business. Passwords can be cracked. Software is available that can assist criminals to crack passwords. Never Use  Pets names  Family members names  Partners names  Childs names  Place of Birth  Something related to your favourite sports team  Nicknames’ Use a phrase including capital and lower case letters, a symbol and a number. I have used a four word phrase in a foreign language and included several symbols and more than one number Always Keep a Clean Machine: Having the latest security software, web browser, and operating system are the best defenses against viruses, malware, and other online threats.  Ensure you have effective and updated antivirus/antispyware software and firewall running whenever your computer or mobile device is switched on.  Download updates to your programs and apps when prompted to do so … they often include security fixes.  Take great care about which links you click on in emails – they may be phishing.  Take great care about opening attachments in emails, even if they seem to be from people you know  Avoid suspicious website and torrent downloading. Many such downloads are not only against the law but also a major gateway for this type of cyber-attack. 
