Welcome to the May issue of the Barnby Dun and Edenthorpe Arrow. I’d like to congratulate Joie Grant from Doncaster who has achieved a bronze medal for Great Britain in the Brits Slopestyle 2016. (full story page 12) I’d love to include more inspirational stories from people in the community. If your child has won a football trophy or a dancing competition, if they have achieved anything that you would like to see printed in the arrow please email me the details with a photograph. It would be great to show the Barnby Dun and Edenthorpe Community that there are some amazing people living in the area. My email address is shown below.

News, News, News, News, News‌. The Edenthorpe War project
is continuing as we have additional work to do before
we can say all is complete. We are having talks with the stone mason with regards to the name of Anthony Sillence who was killed in the Falklands war being added to the memorial .The mason has been given the wording that has to be placed on the memorial this wording will be inscribed on a piece of marble We are in talks to raise the money for this with a local company The plaque when done will be placed under central part of the memorial It may be in the shape of a triangular section or be a flat this is yet to be decided what is the most suitable. During the last few weeks the flag has been taken down as we were advised that when the wind is more than 35 miles per hour it is best it is lowered. It will be raised again as soon as the weather permits In front of the memorial we found a flower arrangement was place and people have been asking who placed it there. Would the person who placed it there please let us know just out of curiosity and to let people know, we are not objection to anyone placing flower at the site feel free to do so. In the next few day we are placing an order for a seat. This well be erected in the front of the memorial, if you would like to pause a while and sit please do so and you will see the names of the fallen and may know some of the families from the village It is our aim to have to seat in place by the end of April weather permitting. We have made contact with members of the HMS Glamorgan crew this was the ship that Anthony sailed on they are most pleased to know we are getting Anthony Sillence named on the memorial and they hope to be in the region to pay their respect to all the fallen. We are arranging a date to suit later in the year possibly August/September and to hold a service All are welcome to be there we will let you know as much information we can via notices in local shops and the Arrow publication We have receive many comments of how nice the site looks nor the Daffodils are now in flower This was done by volunteers of the Parish Council The small plot at the side is to be planted by DMBC who will also keep the grass cut also H Scrivens

DANUM PROBUS CLUB Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus meets on the first and third mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncater starting at 10 am. On Monday 4 the guest speaker was Adrian Eggleston, whose subject was “The Tsar’s Bones”. Adrian is a retired police officer who spent over half of his service in the scientific section of the Force. The main feature of the presentation was the identification of the remains of the Romanov family bones in the latter part of the last century. But before that Adrian took us through the background that led to this situation. This included the downfall of the Russian Royal Family, its imprisonment under both the Kerensky and Bolshevik regimes and finally their murder and botched burial. The location of the burial was kept secret by the Communist regime. In May 1979, the mass grave of most of the family and their retainers was discovered by amateurs, who kept the finding secret until communism collapsed. They were exhumed in 1991, and identified using DNA analysis. A reference sample of DNA was provided by the Duke of Edinburgh, who is the closest living relative of the Russian Royal Family. The grave contained the remains of the Tsar and Tsarina, and three of their daughters, each being individually identified by photographic comparison of the skull remains and pictures of the the faces of the Russian Royals. The remaining bodies of the Tsarevich Alexei and his sister Anastasia were discovered in 2007. Further meetings of Danum Probus Group in May and June are as follows: 2 May 16 May 6 June 20 June

After winning the Bronze, Jodie Grant said: “I was pleased to be on the podium with Katie and Madi. Conditions weren’t great and I didn’t get the run I wanted but I focussed on the day and came away with a score of 60 points just 13 points behind this year’s Youth Olympian. I am now focussed on the future and hope to achieve my dream of been in the GB Park and Pipe team and to represent my country. I’ve worked hard this season with Joe Tyler my coach, JT Freeski Academy and it all paid off. In the next few weeks I will be heading to Austria to compete in the Dutch Moguls Championships. www.jodiegrantski.com www.jt-freeskiacademy.com Sponsored by Airkings Doncaster Sunwise Eyewear Chillfactore,, Manchester
