Community News Edenthorpe War Memorial The War Memorial is now looking better after the grass has been cut and the flower bed planted our thanks to DMBC for the work. We are will info the planning stage to get the dedication of the name of Anthony Sillence added to the memorial. It is placed below the main WW2 section we hope that we never have to add another name Anthony was killed in the Falklands conflict along with 13 other crew members while serving on board HMS Glamorgan. When an Exorcet missile struck the ship. The service will be held at Edenthorpe War Memorial site on Saturday 17 September 2016 starting at approx. 10 45am. Members of the family will be attend. Anyone who wishes to attend is most welcome A detachment of Thorne Sea Cadets will be in attendance with their Standard bearer as will the standard bearer and also members of Armthorpe British legion. Also will be serving and past shipmates from HMS Glamorgan After the service we will go on to Waggies for refreshments and a natter. We are exploring to see if it would be possible to enlarge the memorial site with hard landscaping as it is known this is to give the site a larger paved area We are looking at designs of the modern smaller cobbled stoned size 9 x 6 inches each stone. It would then update also the seating area that is being well used we are pleased to see. The new seat is in place and has to have the donors name plate attached it is a plastic brass coloured one. You may wonder as to why the flag was changed on August 1st it was to celebrate Yorkshire day as you will all know August 1st is our county day so the Yorkshire flag was flown at the memorial site.

Scam Warning An ever-increasing menace for computer-owners is the call from so-called technical support people, mainly claiming to be from Microsoft, BT, Talk Talk or Sky. The message is generally that they have noticed that you have viruses on your computer and they can put it right for you if you let them connect to you remotely. This is always a con. None of these companies will call you out of the blue in this way. You should hang up immediately and then ignore any more calls from them. Under no circumstances should you let anyone you don’t know connect remotely to your computer. They can be very plausible - the scammers claiming to be from Talk Talk in particular will often quote your name, account number and address to you. It is nevertheless a con, and it is believed that they got these details from the data breach that Talk Talk suffered last year. If you have any doubt whether the call may be genuine (which it won’t be) then you should contact the company claiming to have called you for advice on their published phone number (not a number supplied by the person calling you). If you do this, make sure you have dialling tone before making the call – the scammer may have not cleared the call and may be hanging on the other end. Once connected, the scammer will ask for your bank card details to charge you for ‘sorting out’ your computer. If you refuse to pay they will start to delete files on your machine. You do not know what else they may do to compromise your machine. You therefore risk losing money, data and the functioning of your machine. We are hearing new variants of this type of scam all the time, for example one of our customers was contacted by someone pretending to be his Internet Provider who said they needed remote access to update his router. Again this was a scam. Alan Hudson Amy Computer Boost Ltd
