Auckley School has a special visitor! Pupils made cakes to have with coffee as Caroline Flint joined reception parents at Auckley Academy to celebrate World Book Week. As pupils dressed up as their favourite characters, the Don Valley MP was surrounded by Princesses, Where’s Wally, astronauts and Star Wars even Oliver Twist, as she was given a tour of the classrooms. Caroline will also have a Q&A, on the themes of British Values, as the pupils have been learning about British Values. The Questions included: “Why does Britain afford more astronauts” “What do you think of David Cameron?” Said Caroline: “It was a pleasure to be shown around by Vice Chair of Governors, Keith Scott, who has been a governor for 14 years at Auckley; and Deputy Head, Emma Adamson. And the cakes prepared by the pupils were irresistible. Auckley Academy is popular school and I can see why. I saw a range of interesting, creative lessons and pupils keen to learn. As always the trickiest bit was facing a Question Time from pupils who had some tough questions.” The School Hall was displaying work produced by pupils on the theme of British Values: Democracy; the rule of law; Individual liberty; Mutual respect; and tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs. PHOTO SHOWS: Coffee and cakes Left to right Lucy, Ada, Annelise, Poppy, Beatrice and Erin ensure Caroline is well supplied with cakes.

Doodles The Point on South Parade, Doncaster is the next stop for artist Ivan Liotchev’s International Collaborative Drawing Project (ICDP). Ivan’s work brings together people from different cultures and backgrounds to create visual art together. His exhibition of large vibrant canvases has been on show in the gallery Since Monday 14 March. Since its birth in 2010, Ivan has taken the International Collaborative Drawing Project all over the world. For example, he’s recently started drawings with Native Americans and finished them with bankers in Geneva. Next stop is Doncaster and he’s keen to get local people doodling. Ivan says: “My vision is to continue broadening my network of world-wide collaborators to establish a comprehensive platform where people can express their unique voices on a united international stage. This exhibition at The Point will be the first ever instance where so many drawings from the project are shown together under one roof. This will give visitors the exciting chance to compare drawing styles and approaches from throughout the world.”
During the Easter holidays Ivan will host a series of drawing workshops at The Point including a free dropin day where anyone can take part in creating new art. Join us on Wednesday 23 March between 10am-12noon and 1-3pm and make your mark.

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER APRIL/MAY 2016 South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Commissioner, Dr. Alan Billings attended the Parish Council's February meeting and gave an update on policing issues including current crime statistics, the growing demand on the police and funding the service. He also reported on new technology that will enable reports to be produced electronically at the scene of the crime, and consideration being given to the possibility of officers using local community facilities . Dr. Billings was made aware of concerns regarding speeding, and promised to look into these matters. Dog Fouling Doncaster Council has engaged the services of a private enforcement team to address the Borough-wide problem of footways and recreation grounds becoming contaminated as a result of dog fouling. Enforcement officers will be patrolling local areas in uniform and penalty tickets will be issued to dog owners who do not clean up after their pets. Sporting Activities Council is pleased to support children and young adults who participate in physical exercise, and we currently have Boys' Under 12's football teams who train on Riverside Park during the Summer months. In addition, a Teenagers' Fitness Club will soon be commencing at the ground on Monday evenings which will include a routine work out, running, agility courses and team games. Dumped Garden Refuse Riverside Park is looking particularly scenic at the moment with buds appearing on the trees and birds beginning to nest. Unfortunately we now have dumping of garden refuse in the wooded copse close to the play equipment which makes this area look unkempt and an eyesore. It would be greatly appreciated if those responsible could refrain from this practice and either use their green wheelie bins to dispose of the material or take it to one of Doncaster Council's 'Dumpit' sites. Training Flights The Parish Council's representative on the Airport Consultative Committee reports that EasyJet has preliminary booked to fly training sessions from Doncaster Airport on certain days in April and May 2016. The Cinnamon Trust The Cinnamon Trust is a National Charity for the elderly and terminally ill and their pets. The Trust seeks to keep owner and pet together as long as possible with the help of a network of volunteers who assist when day to day care poses a problem. Some dog walking is currently needed for a resident of Auckley. Any volunteer wishing to help the Trust should contact Sally Collins on tel: 01736 758707 or email: sallycollins@cinnamon.org.uk, or volunteer@cinnamon.org.uk Senior Citizens' Outing The Auckley Annual Senior Citizens' Outing to be held in June, and funded by charity rents, is now being considered, and residents are invited to make suggestions as to which venue they would prefer. Scarborough has been a popular place for several years, and some residents may prefer to continue visiting the resort, however, the following have also been mentioned: Brigg Garden Centre Cleethorpes, including local garden centre Harrogate If you have any suggestions would you kindly write, telephone or email the Clerk as soon as possible to: Mrs. M. Auckley School News
Auckley School has a Special Visitor On Friday 4th March Auckley School not only celebrated World Book Week, they were lucky enough to be visited by the Don Valley MP, Caroline Flint. Dressed as their favourite book characters, Year 5 posed questions regarding Democracy. Year 5 had been preparing questions for Caroline Flint all week to enhance their understanding of Democracy. This stems from Auckley’s current focus on the different themes of British Values. A Q&A was held by the year 5 pupils whereby Caroline Flint was impressed by the knowledge they already possessed. The children used the opportunity to find out more about their local MP and government, as well as democracy. Some of the questions included: “What are your views on Ed Miliband?” “What are the highlights of your job?” “When did you know you wanted to become an MP?” “If labour won the election, what ideas will you put forward?” Mrs Flint reports questions from pupils as being the hardest part of her visits to schools. However, the children felt their questions were answered very well. A great day was had by all involved and the children found it a great chance to find out more about democracy and the government in a fun and practical way.

Science Week
Here at Auckley, our ‘Little Einsteins’ have been delving into the world of science. An entire week of different activities and experiments has been planned for the children to explore. Each class, from foundation to Year 6, have had the opportunity to investigate aspects of science including robotics, absorption and how the shape of objects effect the way they travel.
Diggerland
As part of their topic ‘Robots’, Year 3 travelled to ‘Diggerland’. After spending much time in the classroom learning about how machines have revolutionised the world, Year 3 got to see first-hand the machines which make farming and building the industry it is today. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were excited to see the contraptions they had spent time exploring in the classroom.

Fools
Service times for St Oswald’s Finningley & St Saviour’s Auckley
As this is the April edition it seemed obvious to look at April Fools Day, and see if I could come up with anything. So, as I sat pondering I remembered one year when I played an April Fool on my parents. I was at primary school and I awoke in the night. Seizing the opportunity of everyone being sound asleep I went around the house putting all the clocks forward by an hour, including my parents alarm clock! Let’s just say my mum wasn’t (and still isn’t) a morning person. My joke backfired - I was in trouble!
The pattern for worship at both churches is varied, ranging from traditional to contemporary. Our monthly pattern of worship is outlined below.
1st Sunday
9.15am: Finningley - Family Communion. 12.30pm: Finningley - Baptisms by arrangement 11.00am: Auckley - All Age Communion
So who was the fool?
Believe it or not the Bible talks about fools quite a 2nd Sunday lot, especially in the book of Proverbs. Someone I 8.00am: Finningley - Traditional Holy Communion once worked with used to read a section of Proverbs 9.15am: Finningley - Holy Communion with Sunday Club everyday because they said it was full of wise words. Words that were wise when they were written and 11.00am: Auckley - Family Communion with Sunday Club remain wise today. 3rd Sunday So, I share with you some words about fools and 9.15am: Finningley - Holy Communion with foolishness, which offer advice, encouragement, and Sunday Club perhaps some food for thought. 11.00am: Auckley - Family Communion with Sunday Proverbs 26 (New Living Translation) Club 1. Honour is no more associated with fools than snow with summer or rain with harvest. 2 Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim. 3 Guide a horse with a whip, a donkey with a bridle, and a fool with a rod to his back! 4 Don’t answer the foolish arguments of fools, or you will become as foolish as they are.
4th Sunday
9.15am: Finningley - Holy Communion with Sunday Club 11.00am: Auckley - Family Communion with Sunday Club 12.30pm: Auckley - Baptisms by arrangement
5th Sunday
9.15am: Finningley - Either a Celtic or African style Holy Communion 11.00am: Auckley - Holy Communion (BCP)
11 As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. 12 There is more hope for fools than for people who think they are wise. 18/19 Just as damaging as a madman shooting a deadly weapon is someone who lies to a friend and then says, “I was only joking.” 20 Fire goes out without wood, and quarrels disappear when gossip stops. 22 Rumours are dainty morsels that sink deep into one’s heart. 23 Smooth words may hide a wicked heart, just as a pretty glaze covers a clay pot. Blessings Revd. Neil Redeyoff St Saviour's, Auckley & St Oswald's & Holy Trinity, Finningley
