Both the Harvey Arms and The Eagle and Child are offering a mouth watering Christmas Fayre in December and The Old Weighing Rooms at Doncaster Racecourse have a festive menu worth checking out. Carol singing will take place throughout the villages with Auckley PC annual Carol singers meeting in the Eagle and Child car Park at 7pm on Tuesday 15th December and St Wilfrids School will join residents at Kilham Hall in Branton for the Cantley with Branton PC annual Carol singing event on Wednesday 16th December at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend both of these events. Oh, and before I forget, my annual mince pie fetish started 2 weeks ago, favourites so far are Marks and Spencer’s Christmas Star mince pies and Asda’s deep filled mince pies from the bakery, hard choice!! All that remains for me to say is Merry Christmas to you all, I hope it is filled with lots of family, friends, fun and laughter. Deadline for the January issue is Wednesday 9th December. The January Arrow will be delivered between Boxing Day and New Years Eve.
Merry Christmas

Community News Kilham Hall’s Pumpkin Party
Kilham Hall Pumkin Party which was held on Halloween, proved to be a great success with all £1 tickets sold out. Thank you to Cost cutters and The Branton Post Office for selling the tickets.
The witches who made it happen!
Krazy Karen provided the entertainment and occupied the children with games, dancing, competitions and the conga! Natalie from Making Faces worked hard for 2 whole hours producing some amazing face painting to match the children’s outfits. There were some amazing pumpkin designs and the 3 winners on the left all won a voucher for Toys R Us for their fantastic creations. All the children enjoyed hot dogs and cup cakes and left with a glow stick—donated by DMBC and a party bag of goodies. Kilham Hall Management Committee funded the event however, they also secured a grant from DMBC to help towards the costs.

Community News Kilham Hall News On Monday 2nd November, Kilham Hall Committee held its 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) and, this year, it was held in the newly refurbished Meeting Rooms. The AGM is a public meeting and we were very pleased to be able to welcome Mrs Christine Littlewood and Mrs June Scott who came along to support us. Both Christine and June attend the Tuesday Coffee Club and are proactive members each week; Christine entertains and amuses us with her poetry readings and anecdotes whilst June lends a helping hand with refreshments and with those members who need a little support. Thank you to both of these ladies for turning out on a cold, dark November evening to support us once again. The Committee for 2015/2016 remains largely unchanged and Noreen Pearson once again agreed to be appointed as Chair. Mrs Gillian Warrender joined us in September as the second representative from Cantley with Branton Parish Council and at the AGM we welcomed Mr Mark Turner onto our Committee who will hopefully restore a little gender balance as well as bringing his own contributions to proceedings. Noreen opened the Meeting with a Report of the year's events, the main one being the Hall refurbishments which have been a great success.

There comes a time in many of our lives when the need for care in our old age becomes a reality. If you have assets exceeding £23,250 the cost of care will need to be met by yourself. For some, this means selling the family home. However, many people who are in this position are not aware that funding may be available for them.
Will the NHS pay for my care? If the need for care primarily is a health need, YES In these circumstances the NHS are obligated to meet the care costs of the individual in full. This funding is known as continuing healthcare, and is sometimes abbreviated to CHC funding.
How can I receive this funding? It is difficult to secure continuing healthcare. Providing this funding to individuals is incredibly expensive for the NHS, in the same way it is incredibly expensive to pay privately. As a result it is regularly the case that the NHS attempt to apply a higher bar to satisfy than is set out in law and in the Department of Health literature pertaining to continuing healthcare. Many people who should be receiving in full to meet the cost of their care are not. It is estimated there are 100,000 in the UK presently paying for care when these costs should be met by continuing healthcare.
What can I do to find out if I am eligible for this funding? At Guardian Continuing Healthcare we have a high success rate of securing continuing healthcare for our clients. If you or your relative is paying for care and you believe there is a health need, perhaps because they suffer from Parkinson’s disease, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, then contact an expert member of our team today to discuss your options and find out how we can assist.

Provision of a Zebra Crossing on Doncaster Road DMBC conducted a further traffic survey on Thursday 15 October 2015 and the decision of the location of the crossing is awaited. The parish council continues to press Doncaster Council for the zebra crossing to be provided as soon as possible for the safety of residents. .
Relocation of the Parish Council Notice Board in Branton
Following the transfer of the Post Office service to the new Costcutter Store the parish council notice board has been re-sited to the wall between the Cost Cutter store and the Deli Badger. The co-operation of the proprietors of the Ava Court business units is greatly appreciated. A message of appreciation has been sent to Barbara and Mike Fussey on their retirement from the Post Office for the valuable support given to the community.
Provision of a Wreath and Donation to the Royal British Legion The parish council has again purchased a poppy wreath for the local school use and made a donation to the Royal British Legion to mark a year of remembrance
Dog Fouling Members of the public have contacted the parish council regarding concerns over dog fouling around the parish and the associated health issues particularly to young people attending the village school. The matter has been discussed with DMBC who indicated that new stencils would be provided reminding dog walkers that fines can be issued if any fouling by dogs is not removed.
Parking on Valley Drive and Surrounding Areas Residents of Valley Drive have recently contacted the parish council to express serious concerns regarding parents/carers either parking illegally or dangerously thereby jeopardising the safety of children when entering and leaving the school. The parish council strongly supports residents and will be working with the appropriate authorities to seek to prosecute offenders. It is intended to discuss the issue with the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner who has agreed to attend the January 2016 parish council meeting.

Branton St Wilfrids School News
Well as the dark nights draw in our school is a place of colour and a hive of activity. We have had a busy start to our second half term. The children in Year 1 had an exciting start to their new topic as they received a special royal invitation to a very special Royal tea party. The classroom was turned into a royal space, complete with posh tablecloths, cups and saucers, and dainty treats. The children turned out in their best attire, even including crowns. Year 1 all learnt how to bow or curtsey as they meet the Queen, always used their pleases and thankyous and importantly remembered not to slurp their tea! We enjoyed our tasty treats, played a Royal game of charades, danced to classical music and listened to videos from the queen herself where she even answered some of our questions! Look at how much fun we had!
Year 2 have started their new topic ‘Muck, mess and mixtures.’ We have been having lots of fun and taking part in lots of engaging and messy activities. For our engage activity we had a big messy afternoon; the children took part in making mud pies, painting with feet, bubble painting and creating gloop. In our English lessons we have been creating our own revolting recipes and have been using our measuring skills to weigh and measure different ingredients. Year 2 have also been taking part in scientific investigations; we wanted to find out which soap products would make the biggest bubble. We had a great time testing the products and our classroom was filled with bubbles!

Year 6 To end the last half term’s topic, ‘A Child’s War’, the children successfully hosted a street party to celebrate the end of WW2. This began with a very entertaining and successful performance which involved both acting and singing from all the children and many guests! During the beginning of this half term, the children have continued with their historical research about WW1 as they prepared a thoughtful assembly for Remembrance Day. This included reading WW1 poetry, displaying wonderful poppy art work and a short performance to highlight how the war affected children. To engage the children in their new topic, ‘Frozen Kingdom,’ they will be visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park to find out about how Polar Bears adapt to their habitat and then back in school they will be making a giant iceberg. Over the half term, they will be reading a range of accounts of the sinking of ‘RMS Titanic,’ use globes and atlases to find and name both polar regions and make a giant igloo – the children can’t wait! Class 3’s new Project for this half term is called Predator! We launched our new Project with a “Meet A Creature” session. We met all sorts of creatures: bearded dragons, geckos, a Giant African Land Snail, two rats, a tarantula, a tortoise, a stick insect, a python and a milk snake. We had to decide which animals were predators and which were prey. Some can be both! We have built food chains using some of these animals.

In Class 5 we are loving our new topic of the Tudors. We all thoroughly enjoyed our Tudor experience day where we learnt it wasn’t as easy living in Tudor England (hence our sad faces in the picture). At the minute we are enjoying learning about the notorious Henry VIII. We have just written biographies on Henry VIII so for some rather interesting facts on Henry make sure you ask class 5! Mad Hatters Tea Party!
This half term in Year 4 we are studying Potions and Poisons. We are linking this topic to the classic texts of Alice in Wonderland and Romeo and Juliet, which both involve the main characters drinking different types of potions. Our engage project involved us all enjoying a Mad Hatters Tea Party. Everybody in the class enjoyed drinks poured through teapots, cakes iced with "eat me" as well as upside down cakes, marble cakes and a magical cake, which when cut open spilled with Haribo. It would certainly be worthy of The Mad Hatters un-birthday party. For the remainder of the term we will be looking at the properties of liquids and gases, creating and manipulating digital images, looking at the use of medicine through history- and hopefully the odd experiment or two!

On Wednesday 4th November, 3 teams of footballers attended tournaments at Lakeside Primary School. The girls team from Year5/6 and the boys team from Year 5/6 were both victorious in their tournaments and each brought home a shield for the trophy cabinet.
The boys team from Year 4 played their socks off and managed a respectable 3rd in their tournament. All the children involved were good sports, behaved well and represented our school superbly at this event. AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER
DECEMBER 2015 Christmas Carol Singing Everyone is welcome to attend the annual singing of carols which will be accompanied by the Armthorpe Elmfield Band. This event will be held on Tuesday, 15th December , commencing at 7.00 p.m. at the Eagle and Child car park, Main Street, Auckley.
Traffic Issues, Main Street The Parish Council continues to receive complaints from residents in respect of motorists exceeding the speed limit on Main Street. These concerns are forwarded to the Police and Doncaster Council's Highways Department, and regular requests are also made for the speed camera to be used to monitor traffic speeds on roads in the village.
Proposals for Hurst Lane DMBC's Highways Department has recently undertaken a traffic survey at Hurst Lane outside the Hayfield School. The results of the survey are awaited and will determine what traffic-calming measures are to be implemented at this location.
Proposed Sixth Form College After due consideration, due to changes in funding, a very difficult decision has been made to close the Hayfield School's existing Sixth Form in August 2017. A new Sixth Form College will be built in the grounds of the Hayfield School, under the Government's Free Schools programme and will be funded by the Education Funding Agency. This will have substantial implications for Auckley, and Council has written to local Member of Parliament, Caroline Flint, to ask for more information on the proposed development.
Request for Provision of Bins on Public Footpath Concerns have been raised that some irresponsible owners are allowing their dogs to foul Public Footpath No. 1 leading from Hurst Lane to Dursley Court and are not cleaning up after their pets. This makes it very unpleasant for pedestrians wishing to walk the path, and a request has been made to Doncaster Council for dog waste bins to be provided along the path. Hopefully these will be installed some time in the future, however there is currently a waiting list for the bins.
Remembrance Sunday A donation was recently given to the Royal British Legion to provide a poppy wreath, with the remaining sum going to Legion funds. Mr. G. Warrender laid the wreath, on behalf of the Parish Council, at the Blaxton War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday.
MEMBERS OF AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR To advertise please call 07795 387937 or 01302 534256

Auckley School News A Fond Farewell Here at Auckley we are sad to see a treasured member of staff leave for pastures new and enjoy her retirement; just in time for Christmas! We would all like to thank Pam Dicks, Nursery Nurse, for her hard work over the last 29 years and we wish her the best of luck in her new endeavours. She will be greatly missed!
Calling all Super-heroes! The children and staff at Auckley thoroughly enjoyed this year’s theme for ‘Children in need’ and got into the spirit by digging out their capes and masks. The school was a hub of supermen, wonder women and the odd super villain. The school raised a fantastic £403.71 all thanks to the generosity of children and staff alike.
Changing Rooms During the half term break we have had the foundation unit re-decorated. The results are fantastic and the children are now able to play and learn in a bright and stimulating learning environment.
Racing to Success Key stage two represented their school brilliantly when they took part in a cross country race which was held at the Hayfield School. We competed against two other schools and with a fantastic performance from the children here at Auckley, we came out the winners! Well done all who took part!

All I Want For Christmas Is… I suspect that people of a certain age finished the title above easily. It is of course ‘All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.’ Well, let me be honest. If all that I received was my two front teeth for Christmas then I’d be mightily disappointed! Disappointing Christmas gifts are also something of a feature on the internet. There are various clips of children and a few adults who react badly, and sometimes quite violently, when they don’t get what they expected or asked for. So, I’ve been wondering about this - our reactions when we don’t get what we want. Do we simply accept the gift and be thankful for at least having been given it, or do we wear that dodgy jumper on our bodies along with the look of utter disappointment on our faces? I say this because it could be that sometimes the ‘season of good will to all’ is lacking, and we don’t always recognise how blessed we are. Some years ago, in the middle east, a family had to flee from an evil leader. They left the area of Bethlehem following a warning. “Take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.” Matthew 3:13b This was of course Jesus and his family.
Parish Church Service Times The pattern for worship at both churches is varied, ranging from traditional to contemporary. Our monthly pattern of worship is outlined below.
1st Sunday
9.15am: Finningley - Family Communion. 11.15am: Finningley - Baptisms by arrangement 11.00am: Auckley - All Age Communion
2nd Sunday
As I write this, hundreds of families are still fleeing from that region due to oppressive and violent regimes. This Christmas they are seeking nothing more than safety, warmth and food. They would perhaps love a dodgy jumper to keep them warm, a mince pie to fill their bellies, and a solid roof above their heads. For me, their plight, and the situation of others who are struggling, puts any of my gift disappointment into real perspective.
8.00am: Finningley - Traditional Holy Communion 9.15am: Finningley - Holy Communion with Sunday So this Christmas time, if you are able, why not buy Club an extra gift and give it to someone who will have 11.00am: Auckley - Family Communion with Sunday none, or donate some food to the local food banks, Club
3rd Sunday
9.15am: Finningley - Holy Communion with Sunday Club 11.00am: Auckley - Family Communion with Sunday Club
4th Sunday
