Editor’s Letter …

After the chaos of Christmas, January has been rather a sedate month it appears. We have certainly escaped the bad weather unlike so many others around the country and this mild weather has allowed us to slip back into routine without any disruption. Fingers crossed it stays this way.

The

HARVEY ARMS The Home Of Home Cooked Food

Valentines Day is around the corner and the Harvey Arms are arranging a Mr & Mrs Quiz for those brave enough over the weekend. I have received e-mails both past and present from residents with regards to school articles and the process of selection. All the primary schools within the villages are provided with deadlines for the Arrow in case they wish to share some school news. The Arrow welcomes all of these articles and will always publish them providing they arrive in time for print. I hope you enjoy the news this month from Auckley School and St Wilfrids school in Branton. The deadline for the March issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 12th February and The Arrow will be distributed from 21st February 2014!

Best Wishes Michelle Sidebottom Tel: 01302 534256 / 07795 387937 Email: michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

News From Auckley School Achievements continue to go from strength to strength here at Auckley School.

Pupils enjoying their new outdoor board games in the Winter sun

We have received our School Performance Data from the DfE, published in recent league tables and we are thrilled to report some outstanding results for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in all subjects ,with attainment in all subjects (maths, reading and writing) being above national results. These results put us in an extremely strong position when compared to other Doncaster Primaries. At KS 2, only 1 other school exceeded our progress score and only 2 others exceed our attainment at Level 4 +, which saw 100% of Y6 pupils gain level 4+ in Writing , 100% in Maths and 95% in Reading.

Our Early Years Department attainment was also above National levels and the Y1 Phonics test was significantly above National levels. We also received correspondence from the Department Of Education in London in recognition of our good work.

A BIG THANK YOU to all Staff and Pupils involved, who have worked hard to achieve these results. Auckley is really a school to be proud of.

Branton St Wilfrid’s School News Welcome back to 2014! Christingle A number of children and families attended the Christingle Service on Christmas Eve at St Wilfrid’s Church. It was a packed house and the children performed a play to retell the Christmas Story and sang Silent Night. It was a super occasion and really lovely way to get into the Christmas Spirit!

Pantomime

On Tuesday 7th January the whole school enjoyed a production of Aladdin performed by Chaplains Theatre Company and funded by the Parent- Teacher Association. It was a fun packed performance with plenty of opportunity for children to join in and shout out! The y certainly raised the temperature in our school hall! Thank you to the PTA for providing this valuable experience for our children!

E-Safety Day

On Tuesday 14th January we were visited by Amy Simister who is the local Online Protection Officer. She delivered age appropriate workshops for Year 1 children and above to talk about how they can be safe when using the internet, messaging and playing online games. Amy also delivered a parents workshop which was well attended and received numerous positive comments. We hope that by working together we can ensure our children are safe whilst online and know what to do if they access something they should not. We look forward to continuing to work with parents and friends throughout 2014 and will be letting you know what has been happening in school over the coming months.

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY/MARCH 2014 Parish Precept for 2014/2015 The Parish Precept is the amount of money we ask Doncaster Council to collect on our behalf each year and, apart from football fees, this is Council’s only source of income and all monies are spent on matters supporting the residents of Auckley Parish. Last year the precept was £28,560. To allow for inflation this has been increased to £29,100 for 2014/2015 financial year Christmas Carol Singing Event Following cancellation of the carol singing on the village green in December 2012, due to heavy rain, it was decided to move to the Eagle and Child car park where nearby cover is available in case of inclement weather. The latest carol singing was held on the 10th December 2013 in the Eagle and Child car park where a small marquee had kindly been installed to keep the singers and members of the band warm and dry, and welcome soup was provided. The event was well attended and a collection in aid of the Doncaster branch of ‘MIND’ raised £88.50. Recycling Boxes As a result of recent high winds, some recycling materials such as papers, plastic bottles, etc. awaiting collection were blown out of recycling boxes onto the pavement and road. To prevent further problems would residents please place their recycling material in secure bags and firmly close the lid of the container. In the case of a missing lid please ring DMBC for a replacement. Boundary Commission’s Review of Doncaster Council – The Commission is carrying out an electoral review of Doncaster to deliver electoral equality for voters in local elections. The aim of the review is to recommend ward boundaries that mean each District Councillor represents approximately the same number of electors and that ward boundaries reflect the interests and identities of local communities. At present some Councillors represent many more, or fewer, electors than other elected members elsewhere in the Borough which means the value of your vote varies depending on where you live. Members of the public are invited to submit their comments before 3rd February 2014 to the Boundary Commission. Details of the consultation are on: http://consultation.lgbce.org.uk

FAB Parish

How Are You? Have you ever noticed that when you’re sat in the doctor’s waiting room, someone you know will inevitably come up to you and say, “How are you?”. I’m tempted to say, “I’m absolutely fine thank you, I only come in here because of their fine collection of free to read magazines!” We may smile, but it does happen.

Other times we meet an old acquaintance and they ask us “How Revd Neil Redeyoff and Revd Louise Tinniswood are you?” I wonder do they ask because they really care, or because it’s the thing to do? I suspect that began to tell them how we really felt, and gave an in-depth description of our ingrowing toe nail, then they would soon make their excuses and leave! Sometimes we’re asked how we feel, but those asking don’t really want to hear an answer other than “fine, thanks.” Going a step further now than asking how we feel. In January just gone we were told that on ‘Blue Monday’ we would feel the more depressed than on any other day in the year. This stemmed from 2005 when a psychologist called Cliff Arnall produced a formula that claimed to show this. However, when you hear that the research was funded by a holiday company, and feeling fed up is likely to make you book a sunny break, then the research could perhaps be questioned. As I reflected on my two observations I came to a conclusion. That as Christian God never manipulates how I feel, but with great patience and love he is always ready to listen to how I feel. In fact he genuinely wants to know. Blessings. Neil

Also, if you fancy an evening of Music, Mirth and Melody then our very own Curate, Revd

Revd. Neil Redeyoff St Saviour's, Auckley & St Oswald's & Holy Trinity, Finningley

Louise Tinniswood, and friends are doing an evenings entertainment of music and comedy on Saturday 21st of March at Auckley Parish Centre. Tickets are £5.00 for adults, and £2.50 for children and include some refreshments. Give Louise a call on 01302 860169 if you would like a ticket or more information.
