Welcome to the January issue of the Branton & Auckley Arrow. You may well be suffering from the annual feast known as Christmas. The only time of the year where food contains no calories! If that’s you, don’t worry, there are plenty of sales to visit to keep you busy and burn off those extra pounds ;) Take a walk to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Safari Village and find out what bargains are in store, that is definitely worth a mince pie and coffee! Unfortunately, due to the early deadline for this issue, we have not been able to bring you news and photos of the Christmas celebrations, however, we will share these with you in the February issue. If you have any photographs you would like to share, please send them to me at my e-mail address below. I think we need to run a ‘Christmas Light’ competition next year, there are some lovely creations. What do you think? Thank you to all the Arrow readers, advertisers and contributors, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you all a wonderful New Year filled with family, friends and good health. Cheers! The deadline for the February issue is Wednesday 20th January. The February Arrow will be delivered the last weekend in January.

Happy New Year

Are You Paying Care Home Fees?

If you have assets exceeding ÂŁ23,250 the cost of care will need to be met by yourself. For some, this means selling the family home. However, many people who are in this position are not aware that funding may be available for them.

Will the NHS pay for my care? If the need for care primarily is a health need, YES In these circumstances the NHS are obligated to meet the care costs of the individual in full. This funding is known as continuing healthcare, and is sometimes abbreviated to CHC funding.

How can I receive this funding? It is difficult to secure continuing healthcare. Providing this funding to individuals is incredibly expensive for the NHS, in the same way it is incredibly expensive to pay privately. As a result it is regularly the case that the NHS attempt to apply a higher bar to satisfy than is set out in law and in the Department of Health literature pertaining to continuing healthcare. Many people who should be receiving in full to meet the cost of their care are not. It is estimated there are 100,000 in the UK presently paying for care when these costs should be met by continuing healthcare.

What can I do to find out if I am eligible for this funding? If you or your relative is paying for care and you believe there is a health need, then contact an expert member of our team today to discuss your options and find out how we can assist.

For a limited period, Guardian are offering the initial consultation and assessment free of charge. Typically saving up to ÂŁ1000 on solicitors fees.

Branton St Wilfrids School News

Our first term of the school year is nearly over and we have been very busy indeed. Last Wednesday Year 1 had a visitor in school. His name was Sir William Petty and he told us all about the Great Fire of London. We had a fantastic day learning how the fire spread, how they put it out and even designed a new and improved London. Later we invited all our grown-ups in to share our new learning and even set fire to our very own Pudding Lane! Been accused of spying or witchcraft in Tudor England? You could have been beheaded! That is the punishment given to two pupils from year 5 in our express event where we re-created Tudor court. The blood thirsty jury, made up of pupils and parents, found both pupils to be guilty!

Please mention “The Arrow when responding to advertisements

Year 2 have had a busy and very messy half term for our ‘Muck, Mess and Mixtures’ topic. To express and share our learning with parents, we decided to open up our very own ‘Revolting Restaurant’. We wrote revolting recipes, became chefs and baked the food for the restaurant and on the day we became waiters and waitress for our grown up visitors. We all had a great time and our restaurant got some excellent reviews from parents. We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas in school. Father Andrew kick started Advent with Mass in school. Thank you to the community who attended. Our school Christmas Choir have been busy rehearsing a mixture of traditional and modern carols to perform out and about in the community over the next week. Jubilate have been in great demand! They have performed at St Wilfrid’s Church and at Doncaster Minster. We would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2016. The St Wilfrid’s Team.

Auckley School News We wish you an Auckley Christmas As this term draws to a close, the children here at Auckley have been donning their Santa hats and elf ears to get into the Christmas spirit. Key stage one and key stage two have taken part in performances throughout the week and each one has been a roaring success. Staff and parents alike couldn’t help but feel proud of all of the children who took part in nativities and carol concerts and we would like to give a special thank you to all the children who joined in on the evening performances as it wouldn’t have been the same without them.

Santa’s Little Helpers

Our school council have been working extremely hard over this term, looking out for opportunities to support people in the wider community. So wide, in fact, they have set their sights upon a Kenyan orphanage. The orphanage helps children who have lived on the streets, been forced into arranged marriages or have been abandoned by families. They help house and educate the children and even teach them a trade which enables them to have a better start in life. Miss Cooper has organised money raising opportunities with her school council team and, with kind donations from parents, has managed to prepare boxes of gifts and much needed equipment to send to the orphanage. It is this kind of generosity that makes this kind of project worthwhile. Each class has also collaboratively written a letter to the children at the Kenyan orphanage, detailing life here at Auckley. They look forward to receiving a reply! School council have also organised a buddy system within school, which ensures that no child is left without a friend at break and lunch times. Generously, the Eagle and Child have donated £250 to the cause, which has allowed school council to purchase high visibility jackets for the members of the buddy scheme. With the left over funds, we were able to purchase track suits for the budding Auckley sports men and women to represent Auckley in sporting events. A great big thank you to the Eagle and Child for their continued support for all of the children here!

Our Christmas Fayre was very well attended this year with lots of people enjoying mince pies and mulled wine. We had a variety of stalls with plenty of interesting things for all ages. The children especially enjoyed the chocolate tombola, cake decorating, games and Brownies activities. The raffle was ever popular as always. Thank you to all who came on the day and supported us, those who helped and donated items and gave their time. We couldn't do it without all that help. Between us we have raised £716 (and still counting) for church funds.
