Welcome to the May issue of
Branton & Auckley Arrow April has been such a wonderful month. Seeing people outside enjoying time spent with friends and family, hearing chatter and laughter in gardens, all made possible with the lovely sunshine we have had, has been so uplifting. We are nearly there! Local community groups are slowly taking first steps back to normal business and local hospitality is beginning to open back up. These steps are vital for the well being of us all and I hope everyone enjoys getting back to socialising and a bit of a normal life. If you have any groups or community events you want to share, please let me know and I will publish in the next Arrow. All of our local Parish Council nominations were uncontested, meaning there will be no Parish Council election on 6th May. Check with your own Parish Council clerk to see if there are any vacancies for co opting, they will be able to provide you with the relevant information if you are interested. The deadline for the June issue is Wednesday 19th May. The June issue will be distributed the last weekend in May.

Community News
Co-op Local Community Seen here receiving their cheque for £1688.13 from Coop store and Funeralcare colleages are members of the 10th Doncaster Scout Group. This is their half yearly payment from the Co-op Local Community Fund covering Kirk Sandall and Auckley Co-op stores and Armthorpe Funeralcare (and their surrounding areas) . When Coop Members buy Co-op products they can select to choose a local good cause that has been nominated for support for a 12 month period. For every £1 a member spends on Co-op products 2p goes into their own membership account and the same is split between like-minded organisations and local causes. Co-op Members in the area have selected the 10th Doncaster Scouts as one of their causes who are trying to raise money to continue their fantastic project to help people in the community by handing out a food bag to the most vulnerable and offering a listening ear.

You can choose to learn more about and support your favourite cause by visiting the Co-op Membership website https:// membership.coop.co.uk/causes or accessing the Coop App on your mobile device. There are several other causes across Doncaster to choose from but you can only support one cause at a time - although you may change this throughout the giving period. We give a new set of local causes to choose from every October and applications for the next round of funding will open on 5th May 2021 - again visit our website for further information or contact your local Coop Member Pioneer on dorothy.miller@coop.co.uk.

S.O.S. Support Our Show We are continuing with our monthly draw, a way in which everyone has an opportunity to support the show. The current situation restricts the way in which we can call and collect payments that are due for renewal. A message from Mrs Belk Deputy Headteacher. We have had a great start to our summer term at school and con nue to be so proud of the way the children have se led back into school and their learning. We are also pleased to welcome Mrs Fox to Auckley School, who will be our new Head Teacher in September, when Mr Flint leaves us for a well-earned re rement at the end of the term. Mrs Fox is currently a very experienced Deputy Head at Armthorpe Southfield School. She is thrilled and delighted at being appointed in her new role and cannot wait to begin working here with all the wonderful children and staff. Mrs Fox will be visi ng the school over the summer term to meet children, staff and parents.

DONCASTER RAMBLERS
A local walk from Langold Country Park It’s never too late to come on a Doncaster Ramblers walk, even if “Full” last minute cancellations or “wriggle room” will allow none to “miss the boat”. No boat was required today as we stayed firmly on land for this 5 ½ mile circular route. Among the ten who’d booked (last minute or not) were the usual regular reprobates (block bookers) and we love having them, but also two we’d not seen since lockdown, (welcome back) and one newcomer. Langold Lake is a magnet for families and its lovely to see young children relaxing having fun, but we were heading off the beaten track on a route we had done many times before. First heading along the north shore of Langold Lake then over a footbridge to the south shore of a smaller more obscure pond, doing our best not to disturb the occasional angler deep in concentration, or maybe asleep as we wondered by. A right turn at the lake end took us north and our first encounter with the bright yellow of oil seed rape. Startling on the eye and thought a long-abandoned crop, but no here it was, let’s hope we don’t have to walk through it! Passing the village of Letwell we continued north to Firbeck home to the private racecourse of Anthony St Leger, and St Martin’s Church where we stopped for lunch. Everyone seemed in good spirits as we sat among the tombstones discussing the weather, and whether we should walk Thursday and or Friday, and explore the boundaries beyond DMBC. Right now though it was about getting back. Getting back to the weather it had been kind and the ground under foot was beautifully solid almost drought like which wont please the farmers in these parts. Made easy going fofr us though as we made out way south through the shaded Dyscarr Wood with its blanket of wild garlic and a fitting end to our countryside amble. And don’t forget, as spring is moving on and summer is on the doorstep there’s no excuse. Get up get out get walking.
