GCSE results were out the day the Arrow went to print! Congratulations to everyone who achieved what they were hoping for and to everyone who got their A’ Level results the week before.

Now Open

The Auckley show benefited from a glorious day and the crowds flocked to attend. The dog show was a fantastic success again with a record number or entries and the fancy dress show opened the event with 34 entries, well done to Dawn Fiddler for reviving this tradition and much loved part of the Auckley Show. More news and photos are in this month’s Arrow. Kilham Hall in Branton has undergone an internal transformation and now benefits from a bigger hall and extended (safer) serving hatch. It is hoped these changes will be more beneficial to all users. The changing rooms have also been changed to comprise two offices which can be hired out to the public. Last but not least, the St Leger Festival starts on 9th September, good luck to everyone who attends, I hope the sun shines throughout.. Deadline for the October issue is Wednesday 16th September. The October Arrow will be delivered the last weekend in September.

Community News Kilham Hall News

At the time of writing, Kilham Hall is nearing the end of its renovations. The building work has been completed, the tweaking is in progress and the big clean up and tidy up is under way. The Hall has been opened up and it has made a huge difference in size. The activity classes will certainly be pleased with the extra space for throwing their shapes and there is extra table space for the private functions and the Tuesday Coffee Club. The kitchen serving hatch has been widened and centred and this, too, will be of benefit when forming an orderly queue for refreshments! As you read this, however, Kilham Hall will have been up and running once again for two weeks and with everything back in its place - just more floor space! Particular thanks must go to our Chair, Noreen, our Booking Clerk, Bev, and our Caretaker, Chris, all of whom have worked extremely hard cleaning floors, washing crockery, laying new laminate to the new floor area and undertaking all the physical and dirty jobs necessary when building work is completed. Coffee Club reopens on Tuesday 1st September at the usual time - 10am until 11.30am and we are looking forward to welcoming back all our regular members plus, hopefully, some new recruits. For anyone wondering what happens at Coffee Club, we start serving refreshments from 10am onwards until 10.35am (but if you arrive a little later there will still be refreshments available). Jean calls the Bingo, Christine amuses us with poetry and a few humorous anecdotes, Veronica does the Quiz (and is occasionally caught out, much to everyone's delight, when she calls an incorrect answer)! Finally Sheila calls the Raffle but in between there is much chatter and laughter and all newcomers are made extremely and warmly welcome! Schools return, following the Summer Hols, towards the end of w/c 31st August which means that any Activity Groups which have likewise had a summer recess will also be restarting at about this time but please check with the Group Leaders whose contact details can be found at the back of the Arrow on the page dedicated to the local Community Hall activities. We hope you enjoy using our newly refurbished Hall! Best wishes Kilham Hall Committee

Challenging Cancer Odyssey draws on the majesty of the outdoor environment, the arts, and the stimulation of challenge, uncertainty and surprise to help adult cancer survivors overcome the emotional and physical devastation caused by their illness. Odyssey helps patients rebuild their confidence and self-esteem, engage with exercise, and take back control of their lives. Through various fundraising initiatives, donors and partnerships, courses are offered at no financial cost to the participant. I will be taking part in the Bicycle Buddy Lands End to John O’Groats bike ride on 30th August to 10th September to raise money for Odyssey. My fund raising target is £1025, £1 for each mile from start to finish! I aim to average 85 miles per day with an average of 4,500ft of climbing per day! Donating to my Just Giving page is easy - just follow this link and click Donate: http://www.justgiving.com/owner-email/ pleasesponsor/chris-hickson1 JustGiving sends your donation straight to Odyssey so it’s a quick and safe way to donate. Community News Tickhill Music Society Welcome to the Society's 2015-16 season which begins on Friday, 18th September at 8.00 p.m. with a recital in St. Mary's Church by the renowned cathedral organist David Houlder who will play works by Bach and English composers. A local star in the making Local boy, Luke Ashby lives in Auckley and attends St Oswalds C of E Academy in Finningley. He is a keen Martial Artist and although he is still very young (only 8 years old), has achieved a lot in the 4 years that he has been training. Luke recently passed his 1st Dan Black Belt to become the youngest Black Belt at his Club. He has been competing in tournaments all over the UK representing his local club East West MMA (Armthorpe) for just over 18 months now and this year become both a British and European Champion in his weight category.

Ordinary members pay no membership fee but £10 admission for each of the eight concerts. Non-members: admission £10 for each event at the door Accompanied children (under 16) and students (1619) are admitted free of charge. Subscription and Ordinary Members receive regular copies of the Society's newsletter.

Luke is looking for sponsorship support, Kick Boxing is still an amateur sport and therefore, a costly activity if you want to compete in national competitions that are paramount to his continued development and experience. Luke aims to represent England at the World Championships in Germany in October this year and each competitor has to raise their own air fares and accommodation. There are high hopes for Luke and although he will be competing in the under 12 years category, he has the ability and determination to prevail, despite giving away 4 years’ experience to some.

If you would like to sponsor Luke, please contact Andrew Hennessy, 6th Dan, ICO Chairman andyhennessyico@yahoo.co.uk 07875 138526

Introducing the inseparable Bruno and Roxy in need of a good home. Bruno is a lab cross male and Roxy is a terrier cross female. They have lived together their whole lives and they are around 8 years old. They came to the Sanctuary one year ago due to their owners Ill health. Bruno loves his walks with Roxy and Roxy won't eat or walk unless she is with Bruno. They went to a member of staff’s home for a few days and loved cuddling up on the sofa and being pampered. They are very chilled dogs. Unfortunately, Bruno has been bitten before so is very wary of other dogs so they would only be suitable in a home without other dogs and preferably with older children as they are older themselves. They both love to be groomed and are very affectionate. Bruno doesn't do too well in kennels and will bark at people but once he's out he is himself again. If you would like more information on these animals, or any other at the Mayflower Sanctuary, please contact us on 01302 711330 or visit our website www.mayflowersanctuary.co.uk

Chairman’s report August 2015 Another successful Show declared, made possible with the help of our sponsors, I keep saying ‘The Best Turnout Ever’ but it was, the show goes from strength to strength. It is not an easy task to manage so many people and vehicles. Again, where would we have been without the logistics put in place by the young ‘Air Training Corp’ from 1035 Squadron from Armthorpe, big thanks and well done. Some activities before the show were best garden and best allotment competitions the results of these and all other results can be found on our web site. We started with the family disco making good use of the Marquee on Friday 14th August, this again was well supported and will certainly be repeated next year. (Family Disco date for your diary 6pm 9pm Friday 19th August 2016) Trade stands and Craft Stalls provided a wide range of products and services. We built on last year’s layout which again proved popular. I reported last month that Dawn Fiddler, ‘Fancies her Chances’ in reviving the fancy dress, well she certainly succeeded. We saw 34 entries parade from the village green to open the show. Well done Dawn and the parents who listened to her appeal. We decided to get back to basics on the showground and a lot of fun was had with the children’s sports and the family ‘It’s a Knockout’. ‘Fun Dog Show’ certainly had fun, with another record turnout of entries. Cheryl was pleased to raise £137 for the English Bull Terrier Rescue Society. Nature Safari and Cavy corner guinea pigs were alarmed to hear we had a Falconry display, I am pleased to report there were no reported casualties during this event. When will someone come up with a team to beat the Tug o War reigning champions the Eagle and Child, perhaps next year? The heart of the show ‘The Horticultural and produce’ competition had some fantastic exhibits, the biggest onion weighing in excess of 8lb was later sold at our auction. The auction raised a record £247.60

Main Sponsor for 2015 was

The classic cars and tractors enjoyed the excellent weather and were joined by our special guests the ‘Lincs Goldwing club’. Another group enjoying the sun were the Doncaster Astronomical Society and The Armthorpe Elmfield Band who played throughout the afternoon. Local car booters seemed to be busy throughout the day and filled the space available. A new idea for 2015 worked well, the ‘Twilight Session’ saw the bar stay open through to 9pm the great crowd who stayed on were entertained by the ever popular Vinny Dean and local talent James Sunderland. Project manager for the raffle, Paula, was amazed at the response by local business who helped us revive this traditional event which is a life line to raise funds to enable the show to continue. A new dimension for this support was the Spar provided two members of staff to help on the tombola which was the biggest ever and raised an astonishing £847. Then Thyme at Bawtry stepped in and provided two staff members to help sell raffle tickets, this is just what we need, Thanks for all your support, our sponsors The Auckley Parish Council and Michelle at Arrow Publications during the past year. The next Auckley Show date has been set for Saturday 20th August 2016. (Note this is on a different weekend to the usual) If you would like to contribute through sponsorship, help out on the day or become a committee member get in touch for further details. We are looking for new ideas to keep the Show the best and biggest free day out in the area. Rod Gunn from Doncaster Camera Club was tasked with recording the event, he informs me he has some brilliant photos which will soon be published on our web site. www.auckleyshow.co.uk . You can now tweet us and why not become a friend on our facebook page, please leave your photos and feedback. Finally we welcome your comments on how you feel we can improve, please send an e mail to chairman@auckleyshow.co.uk or just give me a call on 01302 770818 Regards Neil Woodward Chairman Auckley Show

So Long, Fair Well, Auf Wiedersehen, Goodbye! It doesn’t seem like five minutes since I arrived in the parish and was doing everything here for the first time but now I am doing most things for the last time including writing this article. The past three years have flown by and in September I will be moving to Wakefield where I will be taking up the post of Vicar All Saints, Crofton and St Peter’s, Warmfield. Many people have asked me how I feel about this. Naturally it’s a mixed bag of emotions. I feel sad to be leaving the people and parishes of Auckley and Finningley. I have been made to feel tremendously welcome here. I have been encouraged to grow in terms of my ministry and have gained experience of pretty much all the things a vicar is expected to do (a surprising exhaustive list for those of you who think we just work Sundays). I will especially miss the love, support and friendship of the many people I have grown close to during my time here. As the Bible teaches us to do they have rejoiced when I have rejoiced and they have mourned when I have mourned. If I could just bottle the feeling of community and family that we have in our churches and take it with me! But everything in life has a season and I have always known my stay here was temporary. The vacancy in Wakefield came to light when I received

the telephone call from the Archdeacon there. I went for a visit, met with the Church Wardens and was shown around the parishes. Throughout this process I got a definite feeling that this was what God had been preparing me for throughout my curacy. So after praying and considering the practicalities I applied for the post and was offered the job! Any big change in our lives, whether it be moving house or changing job (both of which I’m doing) is a bit of a leap of faith. Throughout my training in Nottingham and my time here I believe God has been by my side (sometimes cheering me on and sometimes rolling his eyes I suspect). My path hasn’t always been clear and there have been difficulties as well as triumphs but the more trust I have put in God the more I have felt secure in what I have been doing. Thank you all for your kind words, encouragement and especially for all the love and laughter. I will always remember fondly my time here. Revd. Louise Tinniswood St Saviour’s, Auckley and St Oswald’s & Holy Trinity, Finningley
