Welcome
to the August issue of
Branton & Auckley Arrow It looks like all the hard work and effort the Auckley Show committee have put into this year’s event has paid off! After missing last year, there was uncertainty on whether this year’s show could go ahead. But they did it! Congratulations to the committee and everyone else who has helped make this happen and the amazing sponsors. We have published lots of information as well as the show schedule, there is also an Auckley Show programme being circulated nearer the time. I hope everyone has an amazing time and the sun shines for us all! It’s that time of year when our young people leave a familiar environment to move onto bigger and exciting challenges. I would like to wish all of our young people the very best of luck for September and what ever it may bring. After the last 18 months, I hope everyone can relax and enjoy the summer break and return in September revitalised and ready for our new world! The deadline for the September issue is Wednesday 18th August. The September issue will be distributed the last full weekend in August. Happy holidays and keep safe.

Local schoolgirl takes on marathon challenge for charity A local schoolgirl is undertaking a challenge to help people with kidney disease. Ten-year-old Ellie Reynolds, from Branton, is taking part in the National Kidney Federation’s (NKF’s) Best Foot Forward event, which asks fundraisers to walk or run 60,000 steps throughout the month of June to support people living with kidney conditions. The 60,000 steps represent the 60,000 people in the UK who are on dialysis or have received a kidney transplant. Ellie Reynolds, 10, from Branton, will walk 60,000 steps, the equivalent of 25.5 miles for the National Kidney Federation. Mum Louise said: “I’m incredibly proud that Ellie is fundraising for charity. “In the summer of 2018 my mum received a kidney transplant and my sister selflessly donated a kidney. I am privileged to have these two people in my life and know that without the amazing gift my sister gave things would be heartbreakingly different today.” “She decided she wanted to do something as her auntie Tracey, donated one of her kidneys to her grandmother Sue.” Pete Revell, head of marketing and fundraising at the NKF, said: “We are delighted that Ellie is supporting us. I really hope she not only raises lots of vital funds for our charity but also raises awareness of kidney disease.” Ellie’s grandmother, Sue, was born with one kidney and was told that she needed a transplant. Luckily for her, her daughter Tracey, Ellie’s auntie, was found to be match and Sue received the ‘gift of life’ three years ago. Ellie is determined to complete the challenge during half term week and has already passed her fundraising target. You can support her and at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/LouiseReynolds19. More information about kidney disease can be found at www.kidney.org.uk.

August is usually the main holiday month, although it will still be different this year for many of us. Whether you are having a staycation or are holidaying abroad, we hope you enjoy the break and change of scenery. We must apologise for the delay in updating our website which we mentioned last month. The problems have finally been resolved and you can read all about the biopsy machine which has been installed in the Urology Department at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. It has been made possible through your generous donations and those of various organisations, clubs and groups who have continued to support us through one of the toughest periods most of us have known. We cannot thank you all enough and you should be very proud of yourselves. We would also like to mention that we have bought 50 bags of toiletries for breast cancer patients at a cost of £1,200. This was made possible through funeral donations in lieu of flowers for a lady who died earlier this year. Our new appeal has been slightly delayed, but we hope to bring you news of it next month.

Auckley Parish Council August/September 2021 Newsletter Auckley Neighbourhood Plan The Auckley Neighbourhood Plan is currently out to public consultation until 28th August 2021. The Neighbourhood Plan is an important local document that details new housing growth, supports local services and facilities and protects areas of land from development. It has been put together by a group of local residents based on information from the community through surveys and consultation feedback. Once finalised, it will be used to determine planning applications within the Neighbourhood Plan area. The Plan covers Auckley and Hayfield Green and we need your comments so we can finalise the plan and then submit it to DMBC for its inspection. Members of the Neighbourhood Plan Group will be at the Auckley Show on the 21st August where we would encourage you to come and have a look at the documents and make your comments. Alternatively, the Neighbourhood Plan and associated documents can be viewed at: www.auckley.org You can submit your comments via email, letter or through social media such as Facebook with all the details of how to do so on the website address above. ________________________________________________________________________
New Hayfield Park This venue is proving to be a popular place with all age groups where friends can site and meet on the field or play football and netball within the multigames area (MUGA). There are some problems relating to litter and anti-social behaviour which Council is endeavouring to resolve.
Speeding Traffic Following recent complaints regarding speeding traffic on Main Street, South Yorkshire Police have been informed and the local Police Inspector advises that the operation of speed cameras will now be resumed, following the completion of road works at the Mosham Road/Hurst Lane Junction.
Riverside Park Two picnic benches with seats have now been installed at the park and will be welcome for anyone wishing to have a ‘picnic in the park’, and provide parents with somewhere to sit whilst supervising their children using the play equipment.
Meetings at School Council wishes to thank Auckley School, including the Caretaker, for opening up the building to allow the Parish Council and Neighbourhood Plan Group to hold some of their meetings. This is greatly appreciated.

AUCKLEY SHOW AUGUST
www.auckleyshow.co.uk
This year the Auckley Show will be officially opened by Malc Cooke who has been involved with the Show since 1989 as a commi ee member. Over the years Malc has kept us all safe by u lising his skills as an electrician to install the electrics to the marquees. He also adopted the role of our M.C. for the day and Auc oneer of the unclaimed exhibits, which has raised hundreds of pounds for the Show. Malc has decided to re re from the commi ee so we thought it would be right and proper for him to actually open the Auckley Show on this his last show. On behalf of the present commi ee, and the community of Auckley and surrounding villages, we wish him well and thank him for his services. It would be nice to make this year’s auc on a record breaker.
Scarecrows and Yarn Bombing. A reminder that you are invited to get involved before the show to create a community atmosphere by displaying a scarecrow in your front garden and /or get involved with the trend of ‘Yarn Bombing’. It has been suggested that the simplest way may be to make some pompoms and hang them in your garden. Perhaps you could also contribute to displays on the village green and other suitable areas throughout Auckley by Aug 1st. This year there is no compe on we are just doing it for fun and all scarecrows are invited to the show to decorate the Marquees.
Auckley Show Programme Our 2021 programme will soon be circulated throughout Auckley with full details of what’s on and when. A really big thanks to the local businesses that have supported us with sponsorship and adver sing. With the help, in par cular, of the Yorkshire Wildlife Park we have been able to create a much bigger under cover sea ng area for the children’s entertainer Mr Magic.
Exhibits/Compe
ons
We are again appealing for your help to break records this year; our target is 1000 exhibits being entered into the compe ons. There are 141 classes to choose from and something we hope for everyone. The rose es look par cularly good this year thanks to our sponsor Amazone. Have a look at the schedule on our website and, with thanks to the Arrow magazine, published in this issue. Encourage the children to get involved too, give them a break from the computer stuff. Easy to enter just bring you exhibits along on show day between 8.30am and 10.45am. Judging starts 11am.
Car boot will be trading from 8am all other traders from 10.30am. Fun Dog Show will be taking entries form 11am in the main arena with judging from12.30pm. This year we have a demonstra on of Agility by ‘Agility at Wagtails’ I’m informed your dog will be able to ‘have a go’ Live Entertainment in the Main Marquee featuring Freightdogs, Helen Evans and Vinny Dean. The Eagle and Child outside stage will host a line‐up of local entertainers featuring 7 year old Anabel Tang on drums. For those unable to join us at our adult’s only night event (TICKETS SOLD OUT) we have arranged a special appearance at 4pm of the Oompah Band The Bierkeller Schunklers. Classic cars will be joined by some interes ng tractors and motorbikes. Free Parking and Free Entry will be marshalled by our local Air Cadets the 558 Finningley Squadron. First Aid will be located next to their command and control tent. Raffle Appeal Unfortunately this year we took the decision to cancel the tombola. This is a fantas c fundraiser but generates such a crowded area. Could we ask you to instead buy a few raffle ckets to help the show pay the bills to keep this fantas c community event going? See you all on Saturday 21st August 2021.

At Auckley school we have had a fantastic end to a school year unlike no other. Despite many of the normal events having to be arranged differently this year, it has not stopped us from celebrating. This has included a fantastic sports week event across school. We have had a bouncy castle, inflatable obstacle courses, Sports day, a World cup football tournament and our very own Race for Life event. On Wednesday 7th July the entire school took part in our Cancer Research Race for Life. Key stage 1 raced in the morning and aimed to complete 10 laps of the school field accompanied by a bear and rhino. We were lucky enough to be joined by the Leeds Rhinos Mascot and a dear friend of Mr Flint, dressed as a bear. Key Stage 2 then took to the field in the afternoon to complete 15 laps of the course. All the children and adults had a fantastic day and raised an overwhelming amount of money (currently £1870) for a wonderful cause. We would all like to take the opportunity to thank all those who donated and made the day a truly memorable experience. Well done everyone!
Leavers 2021 As the end of the year arrived, we had a few goodbyes to make. These included our Year 6 children. Despite the less than conventional last year they have had, they still managed to end it with a few special events to celebrate their time at Auckley School. These included a trip to a theme park, laser tag and a party! We think they are all superstars and wish them the very best as they make their move to secondary school.
We also had a special goodbye to make to our head teacher Mr Flint, who retired this year. We were all sad to see him leave but know that it is the start of a very well deserved retirement. The children completed a secret mission to help tell Mr Flint what a star we think he is and why, by completing individual stars. These were made into a beautiful display that Mr Flint could treasure.

Doncaster Ramblers The Re ord Ramble We at Doncaster Ramblers are not immune to the effects of a long lockdown and have witnessed friends slow to return, and splinter groups dri ing away. Yet today we celebrate two new recruits Amelia (15 months) and her friend Harry (18 months) who brought their mums on a Ramblers walk from the Hop Pole in Re ord. We are overjoyed, to have them and I for one couldn’t stop smiling. This walk planned and executed by Neil (the leader) and Charlie (the back marker) a racted and almost unprecedented twenty‐three grownups, two bambinos and three dogs! Who said Doncaster Ramblers are dead? This walk was reminiscent of our halcyon days in the 2018’s and 19’s. But back to today, all credit to the mums who carried their youngsters, over s les and under branches like true pros, for over ten miles, even Rebel our mascot Greyhound struggled at one point, as the string of walker stretched beyond the horizon. It’s a credit to walk leaders who plot, plan, recce and risk asses each walk, so the rest of us can wonder, chat, make friends, and enjoy the surroundings in safety. Star ng off in pouring rain, we headed east crossing railway lines to march along Shady Lane, surrounded both sides by high hedges and wet grass. Turning le onto The Baulk, the going got easier under tarmac, as we took a northern loop crossing the railway twice more, including a metal s le which proved a doddle for the mums, but a struggle for Rebel. By now the rain had eased off, and it was me for 11’s. and a chance for Amelia and Harry to meet their walking buddies. A moderate climb to 280 followed giving extensive view across the landscape including West Burton Power Sta on. Heading for Caddow Wood we turned north once more passing Clarborough Nature Reserve joining the Trent Valley Way for ½ mile before turning le towards Clarborough village for our lunch stop at the St John The Bap st Church, where Amelia and Harry both enjoyed the freedom to roam. Leaving the church on a northerly route we joined Lovers’ Walk to see acres and acres of purple linseed across the landscape. Crossing Townend Bridge for a photo op., we turned south along the Cuckoo Way which follow the towpath of the Chesterfield Canal. By now the sun was out and it didn’t feel like five hours had passed. Our group can celebrate offering first independent and then led walks throughout the lockdown and hopefully in years to come Amelia and Henry will remember their first Rambler walk with us. Rules con nue to change regarding outdoor exercise and group ac vity so please visit our website h ps://www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/ for latest, including future ac vity. Also follow us on Facebook h ps://www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/ for details of past Rambler ou ngs.
Remember while out observe social distancing, carry a mask, hand sani ser and gloves.

The last week in June saw our Year 6 children escape school, travelling to North Yorkshire for 5 days of excitement, adventure and thrilling activities. They travelled the 74 miles by minibus to Malham, staying at the ‘Hilltop Farm Bunkbarn’. By staying at this self-catering accommodation it meant we could still run this annual residential trip, even though Covid-19 restrictions were in place across the country. Home cooked food kept the children fully fuelled as they all pushed themselves out of their comfort zones. Rock climbing, abseiling and caving were voted the favourite hair-raising experiences this year by the 13 children who made the journey, along with three members of staff and Jonathan Tompkins from Rough Edges. Experiences like the evening swims in Janet’s Foss and eating ice cream at Brimham Rocks all contributed to some really special memories made by our Year 6 children before they move onto their next journey at secondary school. Good luck to our year 6……they should be really proud of what they have achieved.

Those who have carried on par cipa ng in Zoom sessions have really felt the benefit: ‘The Zoom sessions have saved our sanity during lockdown (we have been shielding for a year)!’ Dance On sessions will be designed safely and in line with current Government restric ons. Professional dance leaders will ensure that people feel comfortable in each session. There will be fewer places and a shorter me slot of 45 minutes so that more sessions can take place.
Sessions star ng soon are: Dance On at ECO in Edlington restarts on Monday 19th July Sessions are at 10am and 11.15am Dance On at St Francis' Church in Bessacarr restarts on Friday 23rd July Sessions are at 10am and 11.15am Dance On at Auckley Parish Centre restarts on Monday 26th July Sessions are at 3pm Dance On at The Point is now running every Tuesday ‐ 11:15am is full but there are a few places le in the 10am group Sessions are by advanced booking only ‐ those who have not booked won't be admi ed. Sessions are available to book in blocks of 6 via Eventbrite at a cost of £15 (£3 per session, 6th session free). For the booking links, go to www.doncaster.dance‐on.org or www.thepoint.org.uk/ whats‐on/ Dancer, Charlo e Armitage said, “We cannot wait to be back in the room and dancing with people again! There is nothing more joyful than a group of dancing, smiling par cipants just le ng go and ge ng stuck in. We know that moving and ge ng together with others can make a huge difference to people’s health and wellbeing, and we’re thrilled to be able to start our community‐based groups again as we emerge from lockdown.” If you would like more informa on about any of the opportuni es or want to get involved, please contact amy@wearedarts.org.uk or telephone 01302 341662. Pathfinders ... great walks on the footpaths & byways all around us Three mes a week we set out in a small friendly group for a 4‐6 mile walk ( some mes a bit more ) going all over The Isle & some mes a bit beyond too . Every walk is chosen to explore somewhere new , trying not to repeat a route we’ve done before , so there’s usually a surprise to be found en‐ route Recent walks have taken us to Crowle , Langholme , Misson , West Bu erwick , Cantley , Haxey , Rossington , Epworth , Clayworth , Blaxton, Thorne, Doncaster, Finningley, Wroot, Misterton, Garthorpe & many more. You don’t need to be super fit for these walks, just be able & properly dressed for a brisk country‐ side walk , always finishing by lunch me. We don’t like to get wet through, but some mes the weather isn’t kind so we do go prepared. Come and join us! Maybe discover some of the Isle you didn’t know about.
