Welcome to the August issue of the Branton & AuckLey Arrow

Huge congratulations to all students who have recently received their degree results. I have heard of some incredible results including a first from Cambridge! I hope the work and effort made is all worth while and wish you all the very best of luck with the next chapter of your life.

August is time to holiday and we have lots going on to keep us entertained. The annual Auckley Show will be held on Saturday 19th August and we have a full schedule of events and updates in this month’s Arrow. The Epworth Show is also a great day out and takes place on Bank Holiday Monday, 28th August.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park have their summer concerts lined up with some great entertainers including Olly Murs, book your tickets online at www.yorkshirewildlifepark.com. The Hayfield School held this year’s Prom for year 11 students at the Mount Pleasant Hotel, we have a few photos of the students looking amazing in their outfits. Good luck to all students awaiting exam results this August.

The September issue deadline for adverts and content is Wednesday 16th August. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st September.

CHARITY WALK FOR CANCER RESEARCH UK.

A member of Branton coffee club whose wife is undergoing treatment for cancer, completed a charity walk of 100 miles in May for Cancer Research UK.

The coffee club made a donation towards his fund raising which totalled £180. All the very best to them both.

FINNINGLEY WI

Our regular meetings are held in the village hall starting at 7.15pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month and visitors are always welcomed.

We try to have a variety of speakers and activities to cover all interests so come and see what we have to offer.

Cantley with Branton WI

Our monthly meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month at 7 pm until 9pm in Kilham Hall, Branton, Doncaster, DN3 3PF. There will also be light refreshments and a raffle. (Please note we do not hold a meeting in August.) We have a book club, weekly coffee mornings, and we have just started a walking group all of which will be going ahead as usual.

July/ August Newsletter

Continuation of the Chair

At the Annual Meeting on Wednesday 10th of May, the Council voted unanimously to elect Councillor Stephen Featherstone to continue in the position as the Chair and Councillor Ian Swainston as their Vice Chairman. The Council wish them well in their roles for the upcoming year, serving the community.

Prospective Football Team on Hayfield Park

The Council has been approached by a local Junior football team regarding using the football pitch at Hayfield Park for matches. The Council are keen to promote the use of the pitch and are working with the team to see if the proposal is suitable for both the team and the local community. The Council welcome community use.

Continued Support of the Auckley Show

The Council are offering their continued support to the Auckley Show through a donation and providing the accessible toilet. The Council wish the show committee the best for a successful show and local residents, an enjoyable day out.

Neighbourhood Plan Update

Doncaster Council formally adopted the Neighbourhood Plan for Auckley on the 19th of May 2023. Comments made during the recent consultation process now need to go through a formal review process before any adoption into the Plan can take place.

Parking on Pavements

Residents are reminded not to cause an obstruction if parking on pavements as this could be reported to the police. Residents are reminded that pedestrians with pushchairs and mobility scooters should be able to travel along the pavement unheeded. Consideration of people with visual disabilities should also be taken into account. Residents witnessing illegal behaviour are encouraged to report to the police at the time of viewing.

Torne River, Auckley.

Next Walk this Tuesday 26th July 10am and then every other Tuesday after that.

This is a 3 mile walk along the banks of a beautiful stretch of the river Torne.

Held every second Tuesday starting at 10am. The path is flat but uneven in places and there are a few steps each side of the footbridge. Waterproof shoes/boots advisable as the grass path can sometimes be wet.

Starting point is Riverside Park Car Park off Ravenswood Drive, Auckley. Well behaved dogs welcome. No need to book, just turn up.

Our amazing Year 6 students had a fantastic week in Malham on the final residential trip of their primary school journey. They travelled the 74 miles by minibus, staying at the Hill Top Bunk Barn for five fun packed days, under the careful supervision of Mr Jones, Mr Birch and Mrs Hardman. We can’t forget Jonathan from Rough Edges who always leads the week of activities with his trusty side kick, Molly the dog.

Adventures included climbing Gordale Scar on the first day, abseiling and weaselling, canoeing on Lake Windemere and indoor rock climbing.

No Misson School residential would be complete without home cooked food to fuel all the children as they pushed themselves out of their comfort zones. A barbeque and ‘Make Your Own Pizza’ evening just finished off the week in style.

Every child pushed themselves to the limits during the week and each and everyone of them should be so proud of themselves. We would just like to wish all our year 6 children who are moving on from Misson the very best of luck with their future.

You have your wings Year 6 …….now go and fly.

THE HAYFIELD SCHOOL YEAR 11 PROM.

The Mount Pleasant Hotel was host again for The Hayfield School year 11 prom which celebrates the end of secondary school life for 15/16 year old students who have just finished their GCSE’s. Everyone looked incredible, the girls in their beautiful dresses and the boys in their smart suits. It was great fun watching the range of transport escorting the students which varied from farm tractors, classic cars, sports cars and wait for it … an ambulance! Luckily the students were not in need of a hospital but certainly had the most dramatic drop off. Best wishes to all the year 11 students in their next chapter.
