I hope everyone had a terrific Christmas and made the most of the holiday season. Once again, December was full of community events, bringing everyone together with volunteers giving up their time to bring us joy. We have been spoilt for choice with carol singing, Christmas markets, pantomimes, festive coffee mornings and so much more. Thank you to you all for making Christmas in our community so special.
So, January begins and the New Year is upon us, I hope your plans, whatever they may be, motivate you to get up out of bed on these cold dark mornings. If you are looking for a new activity this year, check our local village halls who are bursting with classes and events, there is sure to be something of interest.
A gentle reminder to keep an eye on your neighbours, January can be a lonely month after the fun and festivities of Christmas.
The February issue deadline for adverts and content is Wednesday 18th January. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st February 2024.
Happy New Year

Christmas Pantomime
Kilham Hall Management Committee organised this years pantomime, Little Red Riding Hood. The subsidised tickets sold out within 2 days and every seat was filled on the day.
The audience were indulged with warm mince pies, mulled wine for the adults and festive sweets and drinks for the children.
Huge thank you to Cantley with Branton Parish Council for subsidising the event, the superb Touring Company and it’s fabulous performers, the Premier Store in Branton for selling the tickets and to all the volunteers involved in making this happen.
Thank you for your support for our beautiful village hall. We hope to be able to provide this event again in December 2024.
Carol Singing Around The Tree
Cantley with Branton Parish Council held their annual ‘Christmas carols around the tree’ in Branton on 1st December. Many attended on this cold evening and were rewarded with warm mince pies. The Armthorpe Elmfield Brass band were great, a lovely start to Christmas.
Auckley Parish Council also organised their carol singing event at the Eagle and Child later in the month.

FINNINGLEY
CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Spirit of Christmas was certainly in the air in Finningley at their annual Christmas Party. Organised by the fantastic Community Spirit Group, who bring a ray of sunshine to the elder residents in the community. They were supported by St Oswald’s Church, many local volunteers and received donations from residents and the Station Hotel.
Looks like fun was had by all. Congratulations to Bridget, and everyone else involved.

Doncaster Rambler’s BBC Countryfile Ramble for
Children in Need 2023
Most Saturdays will see Doncaster Ramblers tackling a ten or twelve mile hike in the wilds of Derbyshire or the flatlands of Lincoln and Nottingham, but not today. Joined by friends from Thorne Ramblers our neighbouring group, thirty three gathered in the car park at Hatfield Moors, for what turned out to be a six mile circular of this sight of special scientific interest. Under the watchful eye of the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve, a short briefing including H&S issues was held before setting off in a clockwise direction around the site. Within 200m of the start we encountered our first diversion (caused we were told by the risk of falling branches) adding a quarter mile to the route. Luckily the footpaths were in the most part easy going, and the weather, though forecast bight sunshine remained dull all day. Finally back on track, and after 600m of a relatively straight line we had a series of right right left left turns challenging the walk leader’s navigation skills! The stunning vista and lively chatter helped keep everything on track, including tea, coffee, comfort, and “get my breath back” breaks. We now began that long exposed one and quarter mile stretch across the peat. Sadly it was the wrong time of year to see much flora and fauna although a juvenile grass snake was making its way across the footpath as we passed. Turning right and half a mile later we had reached the half way point. Back among the greenery thoughts turned to what it would be like doing this walk in heavy rain, trust Ramblers to look on the bright side. What was bright seeing our target £1k getting ever closer. The end was in sight too as a couple of half mile stretches brought us onto the Peatland Way where we remained for 3/4/mile before reaching both the car park, and a thousand pounds in donations
Please visit our website https://www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/ for latest information, including future activity . Also follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/ for details of past Rambler outings. Remember while out observe the Countryside Code and give way to other walkers. Back in 2017, the last time we did this Doncaster Ramblers raised five hundred pounds, this time we’re going for a grand, and guess what we made it with the help of Ramblers from Thorne and Doncaster plus all the other generous donations received thus far.
But that’s not all, this fundraising page will remain open until Friday 17th November 2023 (the big Children in need event) so please continue to give what you can at https://www.justgiving.com/page/doncaster-ramblers-children-jn-need
Thank you again
