January issue of Branton & Auckley Arrow I am writing this editorial as Boris Johnson has just announced we are moving to number 4 of the Coronavirus alert level. The message is to work from home if you can, covid passes are needed for indoor venues and the wearing of masks is essential in shop's, churches and other indoor settings. I hope, that however your Christmas turned out, you were able to spend it with the people you love. Thank you to all the amazing Arrow delivery team for continuing to do a brilliant job delivering your magazine each month. I would also like to thank the advertisers who support the Arrow and everyone who provides community information including updates from our local schools. The February issue deadline is Wednesday 19th January 2022. The magazines will be delivered the last full weekend in January. Happy New Year Michelle Sidebottom Tel: 07795 387937 michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk arrowpublications.co.uk

Community News It was lovely to see so many people in our community come together to enjoy the Christmas spirit. Finningley celebrated the start of the festive season with a Christmas light switch on organised by the Parish Council. Cantley with Branton Parish Council arranged carols round the tree outside the Three Horse Shoes and Auckley Parish Council and the Eagle and Child organised carols around the tree at the Eagle and Child. The carol singing events were attended by the Armthorpe Elmfield Brass band. All of these events were well supported and enjoyed by all. Thanks to everyone involved in organising and to everyone who attended.

Can't praise Matt's work enough. He fitted a kitchen for us about 12 months ago and we were so impressed we invited him back to panel our staircase and landing. We were not disappointed. His attention to detail is second to none. Matt is a true perfectionist and we would highly recommend his excellent skills to anyone.

BRANTON ST WILFRID’S PRIMARY SCHOOL Our Special Visitors! We had some very special visitors in school last week when the reindeer came to visit. The children (and staff) were so excited to see them in real life which certainly gave us all a Christmassy feel. All the children from Recep on to Year 6 learnt lots of facts about them and how they are cared for. They even helped the reindeer to keep their magic. A er the visit, the hot chocolate and marshmallows then went down a treat! A huge thank you to the PTA for allowing this to happen in school for your children.
Opera on Christmas Child This year Branton St Wilfrid’s have shown their support for the Opera on Christmas Child, organised by the Samaritans Shoe Box Appeal. Children from St Wilfrid’s prepared shoe box gi s filled with goodies for those less fortunate than themselves. Thank you to all the children and parents of Branton St Wilfrid’s for their generous dona ons.
Christmas Jumper Day This year we celebrated Christmas Jumper day on the 10th December and loved seeing all the children in their jazziest Christmas Jumpers. All dona ons went to our chosen cause, the wonderful Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and we raised over £200!

Finningley Parish Council January Newsletter : H Z LVK \RX D +DSS\ DQG +HDOWK\ 1HZ <HDU We were delighted that Brenda Vaughan accepted our invita on to turn on the Christmas lights around the trees surrounding the pond in December as part of her celebra ons of her birthday. We hope that the addi onal ligh ng added to everyone’s enjoyment of the fes ve season. The Parish Council added to the Christmas tree lights as a result of a requests made by residents for the village to acknowledge significant events throughout the year. This sugges on is fully supported by the Parish Council and we will ensure some form of display will happen at appropriate mes. The Parish Council is s ll considering the development of CCTV in the local villages, linked to the Doncaster system. This system is designed to deter an social acts and behaviour, but if such things do occur to help iden fy the perpetrators. Funding for the system is being sought from a variety of sources for the ini al outlay of buying the cameras and their installa on but there would be an on going cost to the Parish Council – that is you! This would come from the precept levied on each household which is included in your annual council tax bill, along with your contribu ons to the Police and the Fire and Rescue service. Many of you will have seen the ne ng of the fish in the pond before Christmas. This is the first stage in the programme to improve the pond and the surrounding area being funded by the grant from Doncaster Council’s Sec on 106 pot. (money paid by developers for community green space enhancements). The pond might have to be drained for this work and as a consequence the ducks would have to be temporarily rehomed. Once the work is completed the ducks and na ve species of fish will be re-introduced. Look out for further bulle ns on progress on Social Media pages. The council meets on the third Tuesday each month in the Village Hall at 7.15pm. We will be se ng our budget for 2022-23 at the January mee ng. Dra proposals will be made available prior to the mee ng for everyone to see. If you have views on the proposed budget do let us know by contac ng our clerk at finningleypc@gmail.com

Dear residents of Cantley with Branton Parish,
I am writing to you all and hope through our Cantley with Branton Parish Council facebook page, our website, the local community magazines which cover our parish and our notice boards in both Branton and Old Cantley, that you manage to read this. These methods of communication are used on a regular basis in the hope we can keep you informed of events, updates and news. Cantley with Branton Parish Council (CWBPC) consists of 7 Parish Councillor seats. I am the only elected councillor as no one else applied to become a parish councillor in April this year, which was the deadline before the election. The 6 empty seats were filled through co option which took place in May after the election and we now have a full Parish Council consisting of 4 long term councillors and 3 new councillors. The long term Councillors were happy to commit to another term and would have stood for re-election, but first they wanted to give other residents an opportunity to join the PC if they so wished. As no one put their name forward they were co-opted for a further term. All councillors volunteer their time for this role and with it, make a 4 year commitment to serve our parish. We have a new clerk, Bev Walton, who was employed by CWBPC in March this year to carry out the work for CWBPC and I am sure you will agree that she is doing a terrific job. The parish council meets at Kilham Hall meeting rooms on the first Wednesday of every month except August. At this meeting, we have 30 minutes before the meeting convenes for public participation. This allows members of our parish to raise any concerns they may have regarding our parish. Once the meeting begins, there is no public participation but residents are welcome to stay. At this meeting there is a strict agenda which is published 3 days before we meet and displayed on our website, on our FB page and on our notice boards. We cover varying subjects from highways, planning, future seasonal events, DMBC updates, maintenance of the parish including Kilham Hall Park and grounds, setting and monitoring our budget etc. Many of our councillors take on other responsibilities outside of this meeting and represent our parish and feedback at our meetings. The clerk prepares minutes and actions any decisions/resolutions in the month that follows – we are kept up to date with progress and correspondence with daily emails.

I have served on the parish council for a long time now and know that every PC councillor who has served in my time, has cared for this parish and tried their best to do the right thing for the benefit of everyone. Currently, all but one parish councillor, live in the village of Branton. We all love and care for this parish and want what is best for the residents who live here. It is important that we receive your feedback, ideas and concerns, we are here to represent all residents and we welcome your thoughts/contributions. We have a number of options available to anyone wishing to air their views on what the Parish Council is doing (good or bad) and encourage you to contact us via our normal channels which will allow us to a) explain our actions, and b) discuss whether we can do anything to address your concerns. I have listed at the end of this message ways in which you can contact the Parish Council. Every person who contacts CWBPC through these channels with any issue, will receive a response. In all of our decision making, we act in the very best interest of the Parish, this may not please everyone and we don’t always get it right, but please remember, all Parish Councillors are volunteers with other normal commitments such as families we care for – young and old, work and other volunteering responsibilities. We will endeavour to serve our parish and with your continued support, ideas and positivity we will do the best job we possibly can. We have all been through a very difficult time for what is now, nearly 2 years. We all know that by supporting each other the way we have has improved our sense of community, I have neighbours who have become friends and know far more people in our parish then I did before Covid which is a really positive thing to take from our ‘Covid’ experience. Working together to improve our quality of life and ensure that our parish remains a wonderful place to live and work is something we can all contribute to, and so many of you already do. On behalf of every Parish Councillor, Merry Christmas and all the very best for 2022. Michelle Sidebottom Chairman Cantley with Branton Parish Council On behalf of all at CWBPC To contact CWBPC, please see below.

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL JANUARY 2022 NEWSLETTER Recreation Park at Hayfield Lane The site is still owned by Peel Holdings, and therefore the Parish Council is limited in what action it can take until the handover of the land takes place. A new unit is required for the electricity supply operating the MUGA lights and this will be installed in the near future. As a result, the lights are not currently working.
Serious Flooding of Water at First Avenue Entrance to Airport Flooding at this entrance has been a problem for a number of years. Peel’s Development Director has organised a number of drainage surveys and infiltration tests, and the engineer is working up some design solutions, and he is hopeful that remedial works will take place in the new year.
Remembrance Sunday The Parish Council funded a poppy wreath, plus a donation to the Royal British Legion. The wreath was laid at the foot of the Blaxton War Memorial by Councillor Gary Warrender on Remembrance Sunday.

HAPPY RETIREMENT MARJORIE Auckley Parish Council said a fond farewell to Marjorie Caygill who after 40 years of dedicated service has decided to hang up her pen and switch off her computer to enjoy a well- earned retirement with husband Tom and their children and grandchildren. Marjorie has seen many changes during her long service notably the arrival of a computer to replace her trusty typewriter, communication by email rather than traditional ‘snail mail’ and volumes of new legislation . Alongside this she has seen many changes in the parish, the closure of RAF Finningley and the subsequent opening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport bringing with it major developments in housing and light industry. The creation and management of two new play parks, new Christmas lighting and the recently expanded Yorkshire Wildlife Park have kept Marjorie at the forefront of local life. Her immense knowledge and understanding of parish matters will be greatly missed by the parish council who will always be indebted to her for her loyal service and providing invaluable support to both the council and wider community. Please accept the parish council’s very best wishes for a long happy and healthy retirement.

We look forward to a full house on the 5-week course which is complimented by the range of software we have on offer on our public computers which allows people to continue their research after the course has finished.”
