At last, the rain has stopped! Not wanting to jinx this lovely weather, really hope it stays with us for the Summer.

Huge congratulations to all of the year 6 students who have now completed their SATs, and best of luck to year 11 as they start their GCSE s. Just remember, your results do not define you, do your best and hold your head up high for trying, what ever the result.

The July issue deadline for adverts and content is Wednesday 19th June. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st July 2024.

Best Wishes

Welcome to the June issue of the Branton & AuckLey Arrow
We take care of everything

Community News

Thank you to all of our regulars who gave up their Saturday morning on what was a beautiful sunny day. We collected around 20 bags of rubbish between us which is a huge improvement from our early days where we would often collect around 50 bags of rubbish.

Thanks to everyone who does their bit all year round. Our village is looking gorgeous.

Cantley with Branton Parish Council litter pick took place on Saturday 11th May. We had over 13 volunteers with one of our volunteers on a visit from New Zealand. Thank you Chris for lending a hand, we hope this has ticked a box on your bucket list.

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST

June….the month of lovely long sunny days and evenings (we hope).

As you know, our charity tries to support as many different cancers as possible. At our last internal meeting we decided we would try and concentrate this time on those cancers which don’t always get a lot of publicity. Some are hard to detect or have a high morbidity rate such as pancreatic, testicular, bowel and bladder cancers. Naturally it will depend on talks with Doncaster Royal Infirmary as to the kind of equipment they need. Hopefully we will be able to report back next month with further information.

In the meantime, our contact details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), first floor (lift available), Room 104. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. As the office is not fully manned it is best to Email or telephone in advance if you are thinking of coming to see us. Cancer never seems to rest, but neither will we and together we will continue the fight!

AUCKLEY PARISH COUNCIL

Continuation of Chairman and Vice Chairman

At the Annual Meeting on Wednesday 8th of May, the Council voted unanimously to elect Councillor Stephen Featherstone as their Chairman and Councillor Ian Swainston as their Vice Chairman. The Council wish them well in their continuing roles serving the community.

D Day 80 Anniversary- Thursday 6th of June

Next month sees the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings; the largest naval, air and land operation in history. Around 4,000 ships and landing craft set down about 132,500 troops on five Normandy beaches in an action that would bring about the liberation of north-west Europe from Nazi occupation. Local communities throughout the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, Isle of Man, UK Overseas Territories as well as across the shorelines of Normandy, France will join in unity to light beacons, bonfires or lamps on 6th June 2024 at 9.15pm, paying tribute to those who gave so much to enable us to share the freedoms we have today.

Auckley Parish Council are very grateful to the 4th Doncaster Finningley Scout Group for hosting a bonfire and beacon lighting ceremony at their scout hut on Hurst Lane and we invite the parishioners of Auckley to join us there from 8.30pm onwards.

Entry is free but we would like you to let us know you are attending, to enable us to manage numbers. There is very limited parking on site, so we would encourage people to walk or car share, and inform us if they intend to park on site.

Feel free to bring cushions, small chairs, blankets and maybe a picnic or snack? Tea and coffee will be served by the Scouts so please bring change!

We look forward to welcoming you to this event as we do our small part to remember the sacrifice made by so many.

Please register your attendance with the Clerk.

To contact the Clerk to Auckley Parish Council (Emma Lear), please email clerk@auckleyparishcouncil.gov.uk or call 07857 568268.

move into the warmer weather, here at Misson Primary School we have turned our attention to the great outdoors. Our science lessons are full of all things living. As I am writing this article our youngest children are currently learning about life cycles. We even have our own very own ‘Grow Your Own Butterfly’ kit in school. You can see the excitement on our student’s faces as they come into school each day to observe what changes have happened overnight.

Comparing and analysing different plants and leaves around our school grounds is something that our key stage one children have found fascinating so far this term, especially in our outside classroom area. Our fully resources learning space is proving very popular across all our age groups.

Our year 5 and 6 class took a break from SATS revision this week as they tried to independently work through the process of filtering and sieving, using the chemistry sets we have in school. They certainl made it look hard work, but with a little guidance from Mr Jones they got there eventually. There were certainly a lot of laughs along the way, which is all that matters.

Let’s hope this warm weather stays for a while longer, as taking our learning outside is always a positive for both the children and staff alike.
