Can't praise Matt's work enough. He fitted a kitchen for us about 12 months ago and we were so impressed we invited him back to panel our staircase and landing. We were not disappointed. His attention to detail is second to none. Matt is a true perfectionist and we would highly recommend his excellent skills to anyone.

Did you know that April is Na onal Pet month, as well as Na onal Stress Awareness month? It is a research-proven fact that interac ng with pets can reduce stress as it helps to lower blood pressure, decrease cor sol levels (a stress-related hormone) and ease loneliness. Owning a pet has several benefits on physical and mental health too. Here at the RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch, we are responsible for caring for over 1000 animals every year. These range from your typical domes cated animals to birds, wildlife and other furry friends. All of these can have a posi ve impact on your life in one way or another. Playing with dogs or cats can massively elevate levels of serotonin and dopamine (chemicals released in the brain to make you feel good). We have lots of animals in our care, pa ently wai ng for their forever homes, who love to spend me with their favourite humans. Take Rocco for example: a male Ro weiler who came into our care through no fault of his own. Rocco likes all the a en on to himself so would need to be rehomed into an adult-only household with no other pets. However, this means that he would be able to shower you with all of his love and would definitely be your loyal companion for life. Rocco loves off-lead exercise in our secure compound and loves to play ball. Although his main passion is playing, he does love cuddles when it’s quiet. He would for sure enrich your life with lots of physical and mental health benefits! Annie is another of our canine residents hoping to find her forever home. She is a younger female lurcher-crossbreed so it comes as no surprise that she is very ac ve and full of energy! Her perfect family would be one which can match her energy levels and keep her both mentally and physically s mulated. She loves exploring our paddock, finished off with a good fuss and lots of a en on from her favourite humans. Gizmo is one of our feline residents currently wai ng for their new home. He is a very charming boy and has so much love to give so is sure to bring many posi ve mental health benefits to his adopters. He loves to play and chase his toys so will keep you entertained and always on the move too. He is a firm favourite of our animal care team and volunteers alike, and can bring a smile to your face just by looking at him. If you are looking for a new addi on that is a li le less hec c then we have Eliza and Elena – a feline sister duo who are much more laid-back. When they first came into our care, they were very scared but their confidence has been growing daily. Their new family would need to understand that they would require me to adjust to their new home. However, once they are se led with you, they love fuss and snuggles. When one of our animals become available for adop on, they are posted on our website (h ps:// www.rspcadoncasterrotherham.org.uk/animals-for-adop on) and Facebook page. If you are interested in adop ng an animal, please follow the process that is explained on our website. There are many ways to help RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch with their mission to rehome and rehabilitate animals including volunteering, dona ng cash or goods, leaving a legacy sponsoring them through their Safe Haven programme and a ending events. They have charity shops at Bawtry, Rossington and Thorne as well as an eBay and Depop. At the Animal Centre, they rehome the animals in their care and have a pet supplies store on site and online for all your requirements. They also provide a pet crema on service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

During the preparations for this year’s Auckley Show and inspection of our toilets set on two trailers, we have found lots of work is required to save them from the scrap heap. The two toilet blocks have seen service for many years and were once owned jointly by Auckley Show and Epworth Show. Some years ago Epworth invested in a purpose-built shower and toilet block and the decision was taken for us to buy out their share. Our committee’s main objective was to avoid having to hire the dreaded ‘Thunder Boxes’ at our fantastic annual community event. The time has come for major refurbishment and we are making an appeal to businesses and the local community to help out in the effort to keep them on the road.
S ll some slots le to perform on the Eagle and Child Outside Stage, we are looking for local entertainers to showcase their talent. With the improved bar facili es in this area. Tug o war teams are invited to take part for the 2022 pull. Eight in Team plus a coach. First pull 3.30pm in the main arena. Give Neil a Call 07799761006 to register your team. Beer, rose es and trophy for winners. There will be further updates of the entertainment programme in future issues. Tickets at £10 each are selling well for our “Adults Only” Saturday night event from 7pm to 11.30pm. I can book and reserve you a table if you have 8 to 10 in your group. We have an eigh es themed Band “POPWORKS” supported by DJ Mar n Kaye’s Party Zone. Give me a call 07799 761006 to arrange ckets. Or apply on line from our website. It’s certainly looking like a sell out again. Don’t forget the family disco in the main marquee 6pm to 9pm on Friday 19th August. Small cover charge pay on the door. £1 adults £2 children. Bar facili es and refreshments available. Scarecrows – the challenging theme for 2022 will be ‘Fairies’ I’ll say no more other than to start thinking of ideas.

Doncaster Ramblers Maintenance Volunteers Doncaster Ramblers Maintenance Volunteers were out in ac on recently carrying out clearance work on a path along the flood embankment outside Arksey. The path was badly in need of a en on with several trees partly blocking the route, as well as overgrown branches and brambles, which made access difficult. A er two and a half hours work, some 1500 metres of the path had been cleared by our 6 volunteers.. If you are someone who walks in this area of Doncaster you should no ce a big difference. A er a lengthy lay-off during lockdown our maintenance team have resumed their ac vi es, now mee ng monthly to work alongside Doncaster Council's Rights of Way Department to improve our local footpath network. In addi on to carrying out footpath maintenance, Doncaster Ramblers also have a team of 'footpath wardens' who monitor all 596 foot paths and bridleways within the Borough on an annual basis. Our next maintenance session will be on Wednesday, 4th May when we hope to be fi ng kissing gates to replace damaged s les. The loca on is yet to be finalised. Tony March 8th April 2022 Please visit our website h ps://www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/ for latest informa on, including future ac vity. Also follow us on Facebook h ps://www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/ for details of past Rambler ou ngs. Remember while out observe the Countryside Code and give way to other walkers. It surprises many that Doncaster Metropolitan District Council has almost six hundred public footpaths and bridleways within its boundary. Without a dedicated team of Rambler volunteers many of these public rights of way would quickly become impassable. Throughout the year this team work diligently together with colleagues from the council to keep paths free of vegeta on, fingerposts and way markers upright, s les, steps and gates maintained. May is Walking Month, and we hope as many people as possible will come out and enjoy a footpath near them. For a map of routes see h ps://www.doncaster.gov.uk/maps/walking-map

A local Mum’s plea for help to see her daughter walk again. Ellie was a happy lively 12 year old, until our whole world came crashing down. On July 10th Ellie was diagnosed with acute lymphatic leukaemia, two weeks previously Ellie had bruises on her legs, which weren't disappearing, she was taken to the doctor for blood tests and by that evening Ellie was admitted to Sheffield Children’s hospital and diagnosed. Ellie stayed in hospital for a week then was allowed home between treatment. After 2 weeks Ellie decided to shave her lovely blonde hair off for sponsors and get toys for her hospital ward. However, 3 weeks later Ellie was readmitted with yellowing of the eyes. Ellie had glandular fever and this was attacking her liver, she became more poorly by the day. Ellies health continued to deteriorate and she was operated on several times for a number of bleeds to the brain. There have been times when we were told Ellie wouldn’t make it , but she has continued to battle against all the odds. For the last 6 years, Ellie has been in her chair, she has worked so hard on her physio and improved her mobility from just moving a finger to being able to attend college. Ellie still has no use of her right arm and limited movement with her right leg . My dad has supported us throughout and helped with Ellie’s recovery but now she needs the extra help with robotics. Ellie has not been able to find the support she needs via the NHS for the past 6 years due to funding cuts and covid. This has meant we have had to look for physio care privately and although we've paid for initial assessments where they have said they can get Ellie on her feet again, this comes at a price. We are trying to raise £7000 for an initial block of physio support so we can access this care as soon as possible and give her the chance she deserves to walk. If you would like to donate to Ellie’s go fund me page—please see the link below and read Ellie’s full story. Thank you for reading this, Marie Billington, Ellie’s Mum. https://www.gofundme.com/f/ellies-physio-fund? utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cp_guide_do&member=18095911
