This will be our first normal Christmas since December 2019 and it s great to see so many events planned for over the festive period from community carol singing events and performances to Christmas fayres and markets. This month s issue has lots of information on these events so get your diary ready!
Cantley with Branton PC are organising another Litter Pick event on Saturday 12th November, volunteers are welcome to attend so if you have some time to spare please get involved. Our Ward Councillors have organised skips for the community, some dates were earlier in October, but others are in November and December and can be found on p4.
Look out for Branton s poppy display this month. Thank you to everyone who responded to our request for help, we will have photos in the next issue. The December issue deadline is Wednesday 16th November. The Arrow will be delivered before 1st December.
1st Dec

Allotments society petitioned Finningley Parish Council to ask for allotment provision within the village & eventually they identified the site of the old village hall which had been unused for a long time.
Once the decision had been made the PC moved quite quickly to obtain planning consent, clear the area of scrub, provide a car park & put a fence around the site. We were granted access at the start of the first lockdown & the laying out of pathways, dividing the site into plots & getting our tenants on site provided a welcome distraction. The site has come a long way since those early days, we have obtained funding for a communal shed, greenhouse & done our best to prevent rabbits from chewing through all our young plants Despite all the challenges most of our original tenants are still enjoying their gardening, but, inevitably, some have handed back their keys due to increased workloads, ill health or a lack of time available. It isn't easy maintaining a plot to a good standard & getting your plants to provide a good harvest, but when it all comes together the satisfaction of eating freshly picked produce is worth the effort.
Being a Parish Council owned site we are asked to prioritise Finningley residents, but if you would like to join our waiting list email

In August the highly successful and thoroughly enjoyed Auckley Show took place. The success of this event is due to the hours of work and dedication put in by members of the Show Committee, for which, the Parish Council would like to express its gratitude.
The lifesaving machine was used by members of the local community in the home of a local resident to help keep the person alive until the emergency services arrived. This incident shows the value of these machines in the local community and we would like to raise awareness of where they are in the Auckley: Riverside Park (on the side of the Pavilion), Off Ravenswood Drive- always available Auckley School, School Lane- always available
The Hayfield School, Hurst Lane- available at certain times.
The Parish Council is currently looking at siting a new defibrillator at Hayfield Park and will keep you updated.
We would like to wish the resident a speedy recovery.
Due to the success of the CCTV camera at Hayfield Park in deterring anti- social behaviour in the area, the Council is considering providing further CCTV cameras in Auckley.
The Parish Council would like to express their thanks to Doncaster Council who recently completed the painting of the railings over the River Torne. The bridge looks smarter and shows that the village is maintained and looked after.
An existing footpath has been adopted by Doncaster Council and given a new lease of life with a newly laid tarmac surface. The path which runs past the side of Hayfield Lane School, from Hayfield Lane to Sherwood Close can now be used by all. The Parish Council would like to express its thanks.

Just a quick note this month to remind everyone about our annual Memory Tree. As usual it will be held in the Frenchgate Centre and will start on Monday, 28th November until Saturday, 10th December (excluding Sunday, 4th December). Times are 10am to 3pm. We have all new tokens this year for you to take home in memory of your loved ones in exchange for a donation. Also we have labels on which to write a personal message to hang on the Christmas tree in the Centre. We look forward to seeing familiar as well as new faces for a chat and to hopefully let you know the latest news regarding possible purchases for our local hospitals.
Also, don’t forget that Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers are holding their very popular Annual Charity Christmas Concert on Saturday, 17th December at Doncaster Minster from 7-9 pm. Please telephone 01302 323748 for further information. We are extremely grateful that they will be supporting Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust again.
Should you need to get in touch with us we are at 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), first floor (lift available), Room 111. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. It is always best to phone ahead if you are planning a visit to ensure someone is in the office as there are now security keypads on the doors.
We hope to see you at the Memory Tree. However, if you are unable to visit, donations can be made on-line via our website. We are grateful for all gifts, whether big or small. It all counts.
Danum Eagles Basketball club was founded in 2000, Bob Martin grew the club to the success story it is today, establishing a world class club which is known throughout the country for its excellence and its talent pathway from junior through to senior players.
Success stories include sending 11 players in 2016 to the USA to play basketball and experience the education overseas as well as Doncaster Free Press winners of best sports team and amateur club to name a few.
Out of Danum Eagles, Doncaster Junior Eagles and Doncaster Eagles Men’s team were born, and they are the club competition partner of Danum Eagles. We have a U14 team, U16 team and a division 2 Senior teams that all play competitively in the Basketball England affiliated leagues.
As a club we face new challenges, not only the high and increasing costs of courts, referees and game officials, which cost an average of £400 a game, (self-funded) we face the challenges of growing the sport from grassroots up which in turns slows the process of enabling all the opportunity to reach the best version of themselves in the game, whether that is a player, a coach, a referee or a table official!
This month we were thrilled to have an application approved from the Doncaster Community Fund which enables us to purchase two mobile defibrillators for the U14s and U16s teams. Thank you to Cllr Jane Cox and Cllr Steve Cox for making this happen!
We are always looking for potential sponsors and we are delighted to offer packages for the 2022/2023 season. This is a great opportunity to give your business exposure and a chance to connect to new customers:
player per game—Donation £ uncapped amount
If you would like to sponsor Doncaster Eagles Junior / Senior Basketball team or simply sponsor a player or make a donation, please be in touch via carolyn.1967@hotmail.co.uk Every donation makes a difference in our basketball family and takes us one step closer to our goals.

Hello, from us all at St Oswald’s. Now the weather has turned Autumnal we are beginning to look forward to treats like our upcoming Spooky Disco and Hot Chocolate treat times on Fridays! If you feel inspired to contact us about anything in the update, please drop us a line at admin@soa.dsat.education and we will get back to you.
EYFS were visited by some engaging feathered friends and had an awesome time learning all about them and meeting Tyke the burrowing owl, JD the barn owl. Bugs the long eared owl and Bubbles the screech owl. There are some keen budding birdwatchers in there from the conversations they have been having about all things ornithological!
In order to raise funds to re-adopt our school sloth, Pringle, at the Toucan Rescue Ranch in Costa Rica, we held a non-uniform day where we dressed in shades of green and blue to represent the Earth. We learned about rainforests and how important they are and some of the children went on to learn about how to combat deforestation by choosing Fair Trade items and ones that use alternatives to palm oil during manufacture. KS2 visit to Ledston Estate
The whole of KS2 climbed aboard two large coaches and spent an amazing day at the Ledston Estate in Leeds, learning about our beautiful countryside. We wondered at the role of bees in keeping our planet alive, learned how deer sort out disagreements using their antlers to wrestle, and hunted in woodland for pieces to add to clay ornaments. We also learned the countryside code and how to walk our dogs safely around other animals before watching a demonstration of how to handle and relax ‘Chainsaw Charlie’ – an endearing ferret whose ancestors were apparently used by the Romans to hunt rabbits they introduced!
