Branton & Auckley Arrow

As the nights draw closer, we find ourselves ready to embrace the changing season. Autumn is a time of transformation – the trees burst into vibrant shades, and the excitement of events like Halloween and Autumn fayres fill our calendars. However, as we say farewell to what has been a somewhat fleeting summer, I can't help but notice a slight irritation with the early arrival of certain seasonal treats. Is it just me, or does seeing mince pies on sale in late August feel a bit premature? Don't get me wrong, I love a good mince pie – in fact, I have a bit of a crush on them! But seeing them lining the shelves so early feels like skipping over autumn entirely.

As the leaves turn golden and we cozy up with warm drinks, let's take a moment to appreciate the unique charm of autumn. There’s plenty of time for winter festivities – so for now, let's savor the pumpkins, bonfires, and the special glow of this season.

The November issue deadline for adverts and content is Monday 14th October. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st November.

Dear Michelle, we would like to mention two of our very dear friends, June & Dennis Scott.

Not only do they Litter Pick all over Auckley but they tend to the garden at the side of the Spar car park, regularly mowing the grass as well as planting Bulbs & Bedding plants for the benefit of others.

Bessacarr Blues under 18’s

Bessacarr Blues under 18’s played Everton supporters club to raise funds for the family of Aiden Allen, who died tragically in a car accident in Cantley late July. Aidan, who loved football was a keen supporter of the local football club.

Thorne Lions have kindly agreed to run a race event to raise money for the Doncaster Stroke Group. It is on the 11th October 7.30 at Kirk Sandal bowling club. Tickets are £5 please contact Debbie Benson on 07850990284.

Doncaster Spanish Society

Doncaster Spanish Society will be meeting again on Thursday 17th October from 7.00 to 9.00pm for a Quiz and Games Evening. For those wishing to practise their Spanish, there will be opportunities throughout the evening.

Please note also that our meetings will now be held at Doncaster Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Rd, Belle Vue Way, DN4 5HU.

Parking is on site. Drinks can be purchased at the bar and the society will provide snacks. New members are very welcome. Membership is £18 and entry for non-members is £4.

Cantley with Branton WI

Our monthly meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month, with the next one on Thursday 10th October 2024 at 7 pm until 9pm in Kilham Hall, Branton, Doncaster, DN3 3PF. It is our Annual Meeting and there will be a craft activity. There will also be light refreshments and a raffle. We have a book club, weekly coffee mornings, cinema trips, theatre trips and a walking group.

Our Christmas Fair is taking place this year on Saturday the 9th November 2024 in Kilham Hall, look out for our poster with all the details.
