And just like that, it’s Autumn! Well, summer has been a blast, I hope everyone had a great one. We have lots of things to look forward to as the nights draw in, with the half term break at the end of the month and Hallow’een. Yorkshire Wildlife Park and Boston Park Farm have activities lined up to keep everyone in the spooky spirit of things.

Cantley with Branton PC are looking for volunteers this month to help with sewing poppies on to another display for the village and Auckley PC are looking for ideas on how to mark the 80th Anniversary of D Day landings in June next year. The local WI s and community groups are all busy with activities you are all welcome to attend over the next few months. I hope everyone has the opportunity to run, walk or cycle around our villages and enjoy nature changing the colour scheme once again.

The November issue deadline for adverts and content is Wednesday 18th October. The Arrow will be delivered by 1st November.

The Branton Litter Pick Group

met at Kilham Hall on Saturday 9th September. It as great to see that he amount of litter collected, is dropping each time we carry out the litter pick. A total of 18 bags were collected with the worst areas being the bridge and Gatewood Lane. Huge thank you to everyone who turned up and to Cantley with Branton PC for providing the equipment and organizing the collection of the rubbish with DMBC.

The next litter pick will be around early December, Watch out for the date in the November Arrow.

Many local residents have helped to knit or crochet poppies for an additional display in Branton. Cantley with Branton PC are looking for volunteers to help attach the poppies to the net. If you can spare an hour on Thursday 5th and/or 12th October, we are meeting at Kilham Hall from 10am. Would be great to see you.

September/ October Newsletter

Defibrillator Training Sessions

Defibrillators are valuable resources which help to save lives. There are a number located around the parish including ones at Riverside Park and Hayfield Park. Auckley Parish Council would like to organise a training session to help people become familiar with these easy to use machines. Please register your interest in attending with the Clerk.

D Day 80 Anniversary

At the meeting on the 13th of September, the Council decided to explore options on how to mark the D Day 80 anniversary (6th June 2024). D Day saw the start of the allied invasion of Northern France by means of the beach landings in Normandy.

The Council will organise a separate public meeting with the aim of discussing the anniversary and the options/ideas to mark it. The Council would like to invite residents to attend and contribute to this meeting. Please look out for further details or contact the Clerk to be kept informed.

Thank You to the Auckley Show

As always the Council would like to thank the Auckley Show Committee for organising the Auckley Show. The show took place on the 19th of August and was enjoyed by the many people that attended. The variety and quantity of exhibits was impressive. The time and effort put in by the volunteers of the Show Committee is commended.

Cantley with Branton WI

Our monthly meetings take place on the second Thursday of the month, with the next one on Thursday 12 October 2023 at 7 pm until 9pm in Kilham Hall, Branton, Doncaster, DN3 3PF.

We will have a speaker for the evening, there will also be a faith supper and a raffle. We have a book club, weekly coffee mornings, theatre trips and a walking group.

FINNINGLEY WI

Come and join us as we meet up again after the summer break. Our regular meetings are held in Finningley village hall at 7.15pm on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We try to include a wide range of topics for our members so come and see what we have to offer.

Fortnightly Wellbeing and Nature Walks

Torne River, Auckley.

10am start every other Tuesday.

This is a 3 mile walk along the banks of a beautiful stretch of the river Torne.

Held every second Tuesday starting at 10am. The path is flat but uneven in places and there are a few steps each side of the footbridge. Waterproof shoes/boots advisable as the grass path can sometimes be wet.

Starting point is Riverside Park Car Park off Ravenswood Drive, Auckley. Well behaved dogs welcome. No need to book, just turn up.

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST

We would like to thank everyone who supported us during the summer at two events where we had a stall. At Bentley Gala on 16th July we made £92.36. On 19th August at Auckley Show we made £233.50.

As we seem to be heading towards the year end at an increasing pace (!) we have some dates for your diary. Our annual Memory Tree will take place once again in the Frenchgate Centre. It will start on Monday, 27th November and finish on Saturday, 9th December 2023, excluding Sunday, 3rd December.

Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers will be holding their annual Charity Christmas Concert at Doncaster Minster on Saturday, 16th December from 7.00-9.30pm. We will give you further details about both events in the November magazine.
