Christmas Festivities
The Parish Council applied for a grant via Doncaster Sheffield Airport Community Investment fund to be able to purchase a 2nd defibrillator for the Parish and were successful. Thanks are expressed to Hardy at the Premier Store in Branton who has kindly agreed to site the new defibrillator on his premises.
Acquisition of a New Defibrillator
The Parish Council held an Open Day on Thursday 2nd June 2022 at Kilham Hall. Lots of residents popped by for a coffee and a catch up, with local children entering our Jubilee Art Competition. Judging was a difficult task but Vi from the Local Art Club managed to pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes for the 3 age categories. The sun shone and residents enjoyed singing along with the Feelgood Choir, followed by entertainment by the Pipers and a Drummer. The face painter was kept busy all day and children and adults alike enjoyed colouring and creating their own crowns and place mats. The cakes and scones went down a treat (thank you to the Women’s Institute for donating scones) and a good day was had by all.
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
The next litter pick will take part on the 3rd September 2022, meeting at 9.30am at Kilham Hall, Kilham Lane, Branton, DN3 3PF. Volunteers keep the areas free from litter and hazards. All volunteers are welcome and equipment and safety wear is provided by the Parish Council.
Work started on the new brick built storage extension on Kilham Hall at the end of August 2022. Work is due to be completed by the end of October 2022. Apologies to anyone using the hall and park during this period for any disruption this may cause (part of the park will unfortunately have to be closed for Health & Safety).

Litter Pick
Acquisition of a Storage Extension for Kilham Hall
Works have been approved for a new Christmas tree to be purchased and situated at the top of Warning Tongue Lane/Bawtry Road. Contractors will be carrying out the groundworks and installing the relevant electricity boxes prior to the festive period. The Parish Council will be holding Carols around the Glen Road Christmas Tree again this year on Thursday 1st December 2022 – we hope you’ll pop this date in your diary and join us. The Parish Council have agreed to donate funds to Kilham Hall Management Committee to help towards the cost of two Pantomimes again this year. There will be an evening show on Friday 2nd December and a matinee performance on Saturday 3rd December 2022. Please follow the Facebook page for details on how to get your tickets.
Residents have been kindly knitting and crocheting poppies to form a display for Armistice Day. All donations would be appreciated by October 2022 and can be dropped off with the Clerk at Kilham Hall. A net will be purchased and poppies attached to it to form a display from the Christmas tree at the junction of Doncaster Road/Whiphill Top Lane. Additional poppies will be displayed on lampposts around the Parish and of course a wreath will be placed on the remembrance bench at Kilham Hall for anyone wanting to take quiet time out to sit and remember.

Would you like to be a Parish Councillor and help to make the Parish of Cantley with Branton a better place to live? There is currently one vacancy on the Parish Council. If you are interested in becoming a Parish Councillor, please write to or email the Parish Council (cwbpc@outlook.com) and include a few details of why you would like to become a Councillor. The duties of a Parish Councillor are not difficult. The main requirement is to attend 11 meetings per year which each last for up to three hours. You may also receive comments from residents about local issues. Apart from being able to spare a little time, the main need is to have an interest in the local community and how it is managed. If you need any information about qualification for being a Councillor or just want more information about the role, please contact the Clerk to the Council or go to our website to view additional information.

The Parish Council would like to inform residents that they are aware of incidents of vehicles mounting the traffic island which acts as a pedestrian refuge to pedestrians crossing the road at Mosham Road near the junction with School Lane/Hurst Lane and are reporting our concerns through to Doncaster Council. We would like to encourage residents to also report any incidents through to Doncaster Council so that a true representation of the situation is obtained.

In early July the Parish Council took possession of Hayfield Park, off Hayfield Lane and are currently overviewing the situation on the park. The provision of a high quality CCTV camera seems to have led to a reduction in anti-social behaviour and we hope residents continue to enjoy using the park.

Cantley Community Library launches Health & Well Being Support and looks to expand its group of volunteers

Wow! Where has the summer gone? Can hardly believe we are into September already.
Although it is short notice we will be at St John’s Hospice, Balby, on Saturday, 3rd September to help them celebrate their 30th anniversary and to celebrate our 50th anniversary. It was with the foresight of our founder Jeannette Fish that DCDT started fundraising in 1985 to raise money for a hospice. By 1992 St John’s was built and equipped after raising over £2 million, thanks to the wonderful generosity of local people, groups and organisations. The Open Day will be from 11.00am to 4.00pm. As we are approaching the latter part of the year we don’t think it is too early to mention that Doncaster Wheatsheaf Singers are holding their very popular Annual Charity Christmas Concert on Saturday, 17th December at Doncaster Minster. Once again they will be supporting Doncaster Cancer Detection Trust for which we are extremely grateful. We will be able to provide further information next month. Also, a reminder that we will be holding our Memory Tree in Frenchgate Centre on the lead up to Christmas. As mentioned last month we find that many people prefer to donate on-line, details of which are on our website.
