Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday April 5th Members annual photographic night This is always a popular evening when anyone can bring along a small selection of photographs to share with the group and tell the story behind them. These can be on any topic which interests you, not necessarily to do with wildlife. It could be an interesting place you have visited or something you have seen, either locally or further afield, you just need to bring them on a memory stick. There will also be a very short AGM beforehand. Unfortunately due to the snowy weather the March meeting had to be cancelled but we hope to arrange for Charlie Barnes to tell us about beetles at a later stage. All our indoor meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month in the Stephen Jones Hall at the rear of the Methodist Chapel in Haxey on Low Street at 7.30pm. We look forward to seeing all regular members and new visitors, everyone is welcome. There is a small charge of £1 and there is a raffle and refreshments. Don’t forget that bird food is always on sale at our indoor meetings and at Chris Trinder's house in Belton, at very competitive prices, just ring if you need anything. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.

Epworth Music Day 2018 This year’s Epworth Music Day falls on Saturday 23 June and we are starting to put the plan together to make it as much as success as it was last year. Last June we attracted nearly 50 different groups of performers across a wide range of musical genres, and we hope to be able to provide a platform for a similar array of musical talent in 2018. We already have had expressions of interest from over 35 groups who want to play. If you would like to perform at Epworth Music Day 2018 we would like to hear from you as soon as possible. We would also welcome anyone who would like to help to steward the event on the day. So, put the date in your diary and spread the word! Botanical Engineering Exhibition at Owston Ferry Botanical Engineering is the brainchild of two born and bred Lincolnshire lasses; artist and floral designer Caroline Jackson & innovative Flower Arranger Lynn Bottamley. Their description of Botanical Engineering is – a unique form of art work using natural plant materials juxtaposed with industrial or domestic items for their aesthetic qualities. The quest for an exhibition venue was influenced by the need for an industrial backdrop, hence the Botanical Engineers first exhibition will be held at the historically important Owston Ferry pumping station in the Isle of Axholme. The108 year old building houses a preserved Marshall steam engine, Marshall boilers and Drysdale centrifugal pumps; all of which helped to change the shape of the surrounding landscape. The eclectic creative team includes a Florist, Electrician, Hair stylist and of course, floral artists and engineers. This team will create a unique exhibition in and around the pumping station; mixing natural plant materials with the industrial artefacts found within the building, creating a unique artistic installation. If you have an interest in art, sculpture, photography, floral art, history, Steampunk or steam engines then visiting this exciting, free event is an absolute must. The exhibition will be held over two weekends 30th June/1st July and 7th/8th July 10am-5pm, there is no charge for entry but donations are most welcome and will be divided between the Botanical Engineers and the Pumping Station preservation society. There will be some extra attractions such as a botanical “curiosity shop” & plant bring and buy stall on Saturday 30th June, and a Steampunk Picnic on Sunday 8th July. The historic pumping station is situated on the banks of the River Trent, South Street, Owston Ferry, DN9 1RP. Look for the tall brick chimney. Owston Ferry is home to The Crooked Billet &The White Hart which both serve food. The Smithy Museum on the High Street is also worth a visit whilst in the area. For more information search for Botanical Engineers on Facebook and Instagram or phone Caroline 07708697860 - Lynn 07784699168.

The students were graded within the BTEC Business grading criteria and the 2 students who would have been offered the position were Gracie Longfield and Thomas Jackson. PREMIER LAWN CARE COMPANY LAUNCHES NEW ‘MAKEOVER’ SERVICE BRITAIN’S premier lawn care company has just launched a unique ‘Makeover’ service to give consumers in the Doncaster East area the perfect patch – without the hassle of returfing. GreenThumb’s Lawn Makeover programme guarantees exceptional service to create a wonderful lawn – at a fraction of the cost of laying new turf. Its Makeover is unique, says the company, because as well as killing and completely removing worn-out grass, choking moss and problem weeds, its expert staff re-seed the clean soil with an exclusive grass seed mix, top-dress with recycled, organic and sustainable compost to nourish its growth, and then make a number of aftercare visits. Doncaster East GreenThumb branch owner, Chris Potton, says the Makeover is ideal for new or existing customers in older or new-build properties, who want to replace old, dying or poor-quality turf full of coarse or weed-grasses, with the most luxurious, green and weed-free lawn possible. Mr Potton says: “With at least 10,000 lawn treatments a year, our 2,500 customers are amazed at the 'miracles' – in their own words – our professional lawn operatives can perform. This Makeover is our biggest and best yet!” Mr Potton, who has been running the branch since 2009, says: “Re-turfing is often the first thought – but our Makeover is far superior and saves you around 50%. Based on an average lawn size of 160m (approx. 190yards) it’s around £8 per square metre. Larger lawns are even less per square metre.” Doncaster East covers Thorne, Moorends, Barnby Dun, Edenthorpe and Armthorpe areas as well as Finningley, Westwoodside, Epworth, Crowle, the western side of Scunthorpe and Messingham. To contact GreenThumb Doncaster East for a free, no-obligation Lawn Makeover appointment and quote, call 01427 238442, email doncastereast@greenthumb.co.uk or request a visit online at www.greenthumb.co.uk/branch/doncaster-east#contact
