Crowle & Ealand Heritage Society
As the 2nd Thursday of the month fall on Maundy Thursday we will not be holding a meeting in April. Our next meeting will be Thursday 12th May at 7:30 in The Market Hall.
Charles Parker author of "The Royal Observer Corps in Lincolnshire & Humberside" will talk about the role of the cops and include photographs of the Observation Posts at Epworth & Eastoft. The Royal Observer Corps (ROC) was a civil defence organisation intended for the visual detection, identification, tracking and reporting of aircraft over Great Britain. It operated in the United Kingdom between 29 October 1925 and 31 December 1995, when the Corps' civilian volunteers were stood down. Composed mainly of civilian spare-time volunteers, ROC personnel wore a Royal Air Force (RAF) style uniform and latterly came under the administrative control of RAF Strike Command and the operational control of the Home Office. Civilian volunteers were trained and administered by a small cadre of professional full-time officers. Platinum Jubilee We have been asked to pull together a display of materials relating to previous jubilees and royal events. We have a number of items in the society's archives including a picture from Queen Victoria's 1897 Jubilee and posters from the 1935 Silver Jubilee of George V. We would be extremely grateful if you are able to lend items relating to the current Queen's previous Jubilee for this display. Please contact me on angus@townley.com or 07739 921835.
