Welcome to the August issue of Crowle and Ealand Arrow. What a great couple of months for major sporting events taking place. The Euros 2020, Wimbledon, the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, golf’s Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup. Also, the Rugby League World Cup is being held in England and the British & Irish Lions rugby union team tour South Africa. I thoroughly enjoyed the Euros, feeling like some normality had arrived, actually going to a pub to watch it. Very proud of our boys, coming such along way. Looking forward to the World cup next year, and perhaps we can bring it home!! Keep your events and community group information coming through. The deadline for the September issue is Thursday 12th August for delivery by Wednesday 1st September. Enjoy the read and stay safe!

The Isle of Axholme Lions is a local charity and in 2019 we had our first very successful Classic Car Show at the Epworth Showground. We had over 120 vehicles on display and around 500 members of the public attending. We raised over £3000 for the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and other local causes. We handed out our 24 page Brochure to each main attendee and participant as part of their entry fee. Sadly in 2020, Covid prevented the second Car Show. However we are now well under way this year with lots of enthusiasm building up for the first major Community gathering for well over a year in the Isle. Proceeds go to: Local Charities and the Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance We invite you to advertise in this year's Car Show Brochure. It will be in A5 format and be circulated as before. I enclose a list of formats and prices and a proof of the 2019 cover. If you want to know more about the Lions and see some more information of the last car show please visit www.isle-lions.org.uk If you are interested, please contact me at james.mackinlay@gmail.com

Crowle and Ealand garden club are organising a decorated plant pot trail on Saturday August 7th where people are being asked to decorate a pot to display outside their house. There will be rosettes awarded for the most creative entries. The event was initially planned as part of a partnership activity but due to changes in other organisations this will be the only event on the 7th now. Anyone who would like to take part can collect an entry form at the Regen shop in Crowle or from Ealand post office or email crowleandealndgardenclub82@gmail.com The garden club is looking to attract new members who have an interest in using outdoor space creatively to improve habitat for wildlife as well as giving a relaxing space for us humans. Gardens are good places to practice mindfulness which benefits our mental and emotional health and wellbeing. The physical tasks in a garden provide exercise which helps with increasing our general fitness levels too. Membership is just £4 for a family or £3 for an individual and membership forms can be requested on the email above, alternatively phone Ann Hundley the chair on 01724 712337 or Brenda Chester the secretary on 01724 710860 The garden club has a programme of Autumn activities planned for members which include Sunday September 19th when Ken Green will lead a tour of Crowle Moors between 2 and 4pm while less mobile members will be able to hear Angus Townley speak about peat extraction and the Peat railway project. On Saturday October 2nd, the garden club will be involved in a community event at Crowle Community Hall where a coffee morning is being held with various other activities. The garden club are holding an apple pressing session where people can turn their fruit into juice. There will be apple identification by the Northern Fruit Group for those who don’t know what type of apples they have or for advice on the best varieties to suit their gardens.
Axholme camera club will be holding a photographic display which will show gardening in small spaces and how photography can help our wellbeing. We hope to have a bee keeping display and plants for sale, so put October 2nd as a date in your diary. On November 17th we welcome herbalist Trudy Norris who will show how to produce Herbal Teas from your garden Friday December 17th there will hopefully be a Christmas meal and quiz night for members and going into next year on January 19th 2022 Julian Davies from the Stockbridge House Experimental Station will talk to the group about the benefits of peat free compost and reducing the impact on the environment. These plans may be subject to change if the Covid pandemic flares up again, however, we will do our utmost to keep gardening and hope for the best.

So, here we have the lifting of restrictions that we have all had to obey for the last year and a half and let’s hope we don’t get too complacent, this is not over and we still need to manage this virus and take up the vital vaccinations on offer; those protected and vaccinated are what is helping us to get back to some sort of normal, including being able to travel again. The Government has further announced more green countries we can travel to and have made allowances for some of the vaccinated public to be able to travel to amber destinations without quarantining on return to the UK, but all this travel involves making sure you have multiple Covid PCR tests at your cost. Note also, that although a country maybe on our green or amber list, now more than ever you need to refer to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office advise with regards to that country’s requirements to enter. Some want specifics vaccines, some want testing, some won’t allow us to enter at all! Download the NHS App in readiness as this is going to be the way to show and prove your vaccination status for travel in the future or alternatively seek a letter by calling 119 when you have had both vaccines. This is a very complicated time for travellers and I am here to assist all those that have booked their holidays with me and please do consider using my service for your future holidays. Head to my page on Facebook www.facebook.com/luanthornhillathaystravel or Instagram www.instagram.com/luan.hays.travel to keep up to date with travel news and fantastic inspirational holidays on offer, or give me a call on 01427 333013 Luan Thornhill @ Hays Travel We would highly recommend Luan for booking a holiday!
Our holiday was booked for Portugal, but as it entered amber we waited till the last minute to see which destinations entered the green zone, as our holiday was booked for the 1st week in July. Luan moved quickly offering a personal service ensuring everything went to plan for our new destination of Menorca! We would highly recommend Luan for your next holiday venture! Jodie and Brad
