The Gala got off to a wonderful start on Friday evening with the Scunthorpe Co-operative Junior Choir and Training Choir entertaining a packed St.Oswald Church, finishing with a different style of music at the greatly entertaining supper and concert at Ealand Victory Hall. The Art Exhibition was a outstanding success. One of the highlights of the Crowle & Ealand Gala Weekend was a craft exhibition held at Crowle Methodist Church. The event, a joint project between the Chapel's Craft Club and the Isle of Axholme Knit & Sew Group attracted a steady stream of visitors throughout Saturday. There was a raffle plus a naming competition to help raise funds for the Lincolnshire & Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance. Chapel spokesperson Mabel Clift said: "We attracted a range of visitors of all ages and everyone seemed to enjoy the various display stalls." A big thanks to all those who gave their time to help arrange all the events. Also thanks for the grant funding from SSE Windfarm that provided the fundamental resources to get the idea off the ground.

Fork to Fork support local pork! Lincolnshire Show challenge winners! On Wednesday 18th June 2014, some students that were chosen to take part in the Lincolnshire Show Schools Challenge took a trip to the Lincolnshire Show to present to the panel of judges all of the advertisements that they made to make the Lincolnshire Show appealing to young people. Here are some students’ opinions on the Lincolnshire Show Schools Challenge before they went: Jack Webster said ‘I think that the Lincolnshire show is aimed at younger children and others. I enjoyed creating all of the advertisements and I think that it will be fun going to the Lincolnshire Show because I have never been before.’ Ellie Fowler said ‘We are presenting our advertisements to judges and I think that it is popular so that younger children will come to the Lincolnshire Show. It will be fun to go to the Lincolnshire Show because I have never been and we get to explore it.’ William McCullion said ‘I think that we are presenting our ideas to the audience, judges and people that turn up. It is fun creating things for the Lincolnshire Show and it is very enjoyable in the process and pride of ownership. Our ideas and creations formulate over weeks and weeks. I am excited to present our ideas and it will be fun to show off something that we have made.’ Shannon Oxberry said ‘We are presenting our creations to younger children, teenagers and others. I enjoy creating our ideas onto big scale drawings because it is fun and I like painting and listening to music. I am looking forward to going to the Lincolnshire Show because it will be fun and it is a good experience for the students who have never been before. Here are some teachers’ opinions on the Lincolnshire Show schools Challenge: Mrs Childs said ‘There is a panel of judges that we are presenting our advertisements to. I think that the students have enjoyed creating their ideas because they have all taken part in a variety of activities. I also think that we have a chance of winning, weather dependent.’ Mrs Kinroy said ‘We are presenting our advertisements to a panel of judges. I feel that the students have enjoyed creating our ideas, but we just haven’t had much time to plan. I also feel that it will be a nice experience for the students and teachers. It will be nice to go see a rural county show.’ The day finally arrived, there were lots of excellent displays from other schools but we were still confident that ours was a strong contender for the cup! On Thursday our students presented their work to the judges. It felt like a long wait to hear who had won but finally the result came in that The Axholme Academy had beaten the other schools to take first prize! All involved were really proud of the achievement that our students had made and the judges said “The work done by the students was outstanding; such a range of work was being displayed, well done to all.” Our Principal, Mr Sellars said ‘winning the Lincolnshire show Challenge for the second time in the past few years was a great achievement against very strong opposition from all over the region. I know that the team developed a really high quality presentation including visual, audio and written media that hugely impressed the judges and really sold the Lincolnshire The students pictured with their winning trophy Show to visitors’.
