As promised last month we said we'd give you an update on our Lex Fest and how the day went. Well what can we say.... the sun certainly shone down on us, the day was an absolute scorcher! One of our committee members registered 38 degree's in their car and it absolutely felt like that and more in the heat of the day stood in the middle of Epworth Show Ground. But that did not put our supporters off who turned up in their drones set out to have a really good day out. The atmosphere was that of fun, laughter and enjoyment as people set up 'camp' on the field ready to sizzle in the sun. Our It's a Knockout Teams worked like Trojans as they jumped, climbed and bounced their way round the assault course cheered on by family and friends sat sunbathing on the sidelines with an ice cold beer in their hands. Shortly after this finished, a Tractor Run of around 100 different style tractors drove through the Showground followed shortly by the Father's Day egg and spoon races, the Dog Show, and the Magic Show. Meanwhile inside the marquee our bar staff worked tirelessly keeping guests supplied with ice cold drinks and food, our Committee members were busy running the raffle, cakes stand and tombola, and the face painter created some stunning artwork on people's faces. All in all a very successful day. So we hear you ask... what was the total amount of money raised from the event. Well we are very proud to announce that Lex Fest 2017 raised an incredible estimated ÂŁ4000.. We say estimated at this stage as money is still arriving from the It's a knockout sponsorship.. So we have a big big THANKYOU to each & everyone of you.... you are AMAZING & we are so proud to have you all as part of Pride of the Isle, without you, we simply couldn't do it!! #memoriesforlife đ&#x;’š Look out for Lex Fest 2018 details and all other planned events on our website www.prideoftheisle.co.uk. All enquiries about the charity, whether it's how to fundraise for us, how to help us in our mission, or how to join our committee, please contact us via the website and one of the committee members will be in touch. In a summer when the weather has been on a topsy-turvy rollercoaster ride, it looked as though this year's Epworth Music Day on Saturday, 24th of June would be caught in the tailwind of the blistering heat of the weekend before. But as the weather cooled, a brief window of glorious summer sunshine opened above Epworth on the Saturday morning. Just in time to welcome 80 hours of free music that day across 13 different venues and provided by 50 different groups, bands and performers. All free. What a mouth watering prospect it was. The first notes of music were struck by the bells of St Andrew’s Church which rang out at 9.45am. The next respite from music that day around the centre of Epworth was at midnight. By then it had been some day. Someone said ‘what a joy it was for us all to wander around the village, visit the various shops and take in so much variety in music. Having played hundreds if not thousands of events myself over the last decade that I’ve been playing professionally, I can honestly say I don’t think I’ve played such a well organised festival - so credit to you and your team!’ and another comment was ‘We were pleased to see such a large turnout, lots of happy faces, joining in the singing and dancing, Epworth was a really brilliant place on Saturday’, but perhaps the comment that summed up what really happened last Saturday was ‘There was something very special about yesterday in Epworth.’ Indeed there was. Peter Barnard, director of the event, said that ‘everyone enjoyed it. Performers, audience, and traders who were very busy – both food and drink retailers as well as others. It was a day when Epworth finally loved Epworth Music Day and decided to party. People were still talking excitedly about it for days afterwards. Welcome financial support for the event came from Epworth Town Council, Harold Woolgar Insurances and Ocean 52 Fish and Chip Shop and without that financial backing the event would not have happened.’ He also praised the hard work of his colleagues and the stewards who looked after people on the day so well. He added that ’an event that offers such a wide range of musical genres and can be enjoyed without having to buy a ticket is very unusual and gives people a great chance to experience and celebrate live music. This was a community event, organised and run by the community for the community.’ He added ‘as Epworth Music Day has grown in size, scope and success we need some more people to help us prepare for it and run it so that we can maintain its high standing. For the future we need help with a number of jobs from October onwards. These include working with the first aiders, our insurance broker, preparing the music licence application, as well as sorting out and erecting directional road signs and advertising banners. Without this help, we'll struggle to maintain the event at the level we experienced this year.’ If you think you could help with one or more elements of the administration, please contact Peter Barnard on 01427 873937 or peter.barnard@me.com

Ofsted – We are good!! The academy was inspected on 5th July by a team of two inspectors led by Debbie Redhall, HMI. This was a 1 day section 8 inspection for a school judged as good when Ofsted last visited. For us, this was in October 2013. Inspectors spent the day interviewing staff, visiting lessons, talking to lots of students and looking at books and academy documentation. Inspectors were impressed by the continued positive development of the academy since 2013. The lead inspector will now construct a letter containing inspection findings that will be distributed to parents. It is hoped that this will be before the end of term but it will depend on how efficiently Ofsted process the letter. Principal, Joe Sellars, said ‘we are delighted to have gone through a really rigorous inspection and been judged to be a good school again. The inspectors were clear that the bar has been raised since 2013 and it is now much harder to be judged as a good school. Many schools previously judged to be good have been downgraded in recent inspections. When we receive the letter from Ofsted we will examine any recommendations closely and use them in our planning for ongoing improvement. I’d like to thank parents and carers for their great support in doing the very best for our students’.

SPORTS DAY 2017 Sports Day took place at Doncaster Keepmoat Stadium on the 29th June 2017. The winning forms for each year group were as follows: 7JE 8HW 9AM 10LK
