Steven joins forces to provide wider service provision As many of you know, Steven Speers has successfully implemented a physiotherapy service in Epworth. His business has grown from strength to strength and he has a long list of testimonials from more than satisfied patients. During the two and a half years he’s been trading from Epworth Leisure Centre, he has also been working for the Lincoln Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic where he has developed a significant client base and respect from fellow colleagues. Steven is delighted to announce that he has become a partner at the Lincoln clinic and along with that, they have taken on Steven Speers Physiotherapy to run alongside their five other successful clinics. “I’m thrilled to have been invited to become a partner with this already successful Physiotherapy practice” says Steven who will be one of four partners and will be running two of their six clinics. Steven Speers Physiotherapy will now be known as Epworth Physiotherapy and Sports Injuries Clinic. Steven will remain very much at the helm but highly experienced Physiotherapists will also cover during busy periods. Alongside this exciting new venture is the opening of a new clinic at Marshall’s Yard, Gainsborough. Steven will also be managing the Gainsborough clinic supported by the Physiotherapists and administration staff from the Lincoln practice. Steven has previously worked at the John Coupland Hospital, Gainsborough as a Senior Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapist and so has developed an excellent reputation and rapport with local GPs. “I’m very much looking forward to working at the new Marshall’s Yard practice. It’s an excellent opportunity to continue working in Gainsborough but in private practice” states Steven. He adds “I’m also delighted with the success of Steven Speers Physiotherapy in Epworth. I have been really busy of late so it’ll be will nice to offer patients alternative appointments to see me at the Gainsborough clinic” Steven Joins partners Gavin Cummings, Anthony Glennon and Jane Seabrook. They currently have clinics in Cabourne and South Hykeham, Lincoln, Market Rasen, Louth and now add Marshall’s Yard and Epworth to their growing number of premises. Steven is keen to reassure his Epworth patients of the same personal and confidential service he previously offered. “The Leisure Centre is still an excellent venue to hold a physio clinic. I have become very busy lately and owing to NHS work commitments, I haven’t been able to offer additional appointments until now”. Patients can choose to come to Epworth or Marshall’s Yard with appointments running up to six days a week. Both clinics have disabled access and ample free parking.

News, News, News, News, News, News, News, News... Crowle WI . 1923 to 2013. Stepping out for another 90 years Late in 1922 the poster went up asking ladies to join a meeting with a view to forming a Women’s Institute in Crowle. The call was answered by a very large number of women and Crowle WI was formed at the beginning of 1923. To celebrate their 90 years, the present members have produced a desk calendar. Don’t panic! This will frighten neither the children or the horses, but does reflect the idea of ‘stepping out’.

"We are delighted to present the draft copy of: ‘Crowle and Ealand Future: The Crowle and Ealand Community Led Plan” To thank you to the many people who responded to requests for their views via our website, surveys, face to face contact, calls, emails and a stall on Crowle show . The draft plan can be viewed at the Crowle Hub, Crowle Regen Shop or on our website www.crowleandealandfuture.co.uk

The pictures is for June. To see more you need to buy the calendar. It will cost you £3.50 and you need to contact Phyllis Taylor on 01724 710025.

This includes a first draft of an Implementation Plan. We would welcome your comments on the Implementation Plan: 1 By email hazel.wilson@homecall.co.uk 2 By phone Paul McCartan 01724 798733 3 In writing to Crowle Regen, Market Place, Crowle, DN17 4HA.

Crowle Methodist Church continue with their programme of events; on Monday 3rd December at 7pm

We would like to publish the plan as soon as possible and so we would appreciate all comment s back by 12th December.

there will be a Christmas Musical Coffee Evening with Pam Pickwell and friends. Tickets £3.00

Thank you to all local people for their involvement and co-operation in preparing this plan."

The church holds a coffee morning on the third Saturday of each month from 9.30-11.30. Everyone welcome.

Cadet Sergeant Luke Cappleman (16) and Cadet Sergeant Alex Fordham (16), both of Crowle Air Cadets, have recently completed their Senior Non-Commissioned Officer training course at South and West Yorkshire Wing Headquarters. The course aims to teach Senior NCOs how to manage groups of Junior NCOs and other cadets, as well as build upon the skills taught in earlier courses. The course focuses on developing the candidates abilities to lead a group and get things done, as well as building upon team working skills, problem solving and communications skills learnt at an earlier stage in the candidates development. It is continually assessed and candidates leave the course with report, highlighting their strengths and also areas for them to develop in the future. It brings together cadets from all across South and West Yorkshire Wing (An area that also covers parts of East Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire) and helps them develop their skills, as well as teaching them new skills and allowing them to meet other cadets from around the Wing and share experiences and ideas.

Crowle Cadets Make a Splash Cadets from Crowle Squadron recently took part in the South and West Yorkshire Wing inter-squadron swimming competition. The competition is open to all 33 Squadrons within the Wing and sees the cadets compete in 4 different categories. The day saw a lot of strong competition, with several close run races. At the end of the competition, the cadets were placed 14th in the girl’s competition, 16th in the boy’s competition and 16th in the overall competition. Flying Officer V Docherty, 2nd in command of Crowle Squadron, said “The cadets did really well. We only had a small team and only one female cadet, so to come where we did was fantastic” Sport is one of the many opportunities that Crowle Squadron offers to its members, both cadets and staff. The Ealand Parade was followed by a second parade in Crowle, again with the Squadron in attendance, where the Air Cadets took centre stage, not only taking part, but leading and marshalling the parade and providing a number of the readings.

Flying Officer Victoria Docherty, 2IC at Crowle, said “It was great that the cadets gave up their time for these parades.” She continued “The cadets did the Squadron proud. Their turn out and deportment was an example to all”.

Perfect Performance Students at the Axholme Academy were captivated by a performance of “Perfect” this week when Theatre In Education Company Tiny Giants visited with their gripping tale with a moral. The play, based on real life tragedy, tells the story of a teenager who, after being thrown through the windscreen in a car accident because she wasn’t wearing her seat belt, has numerous operations and hundreds of stitches to her face and head. The students’ attention was grabbed by the quick pace and use of comedy, which made the impact of the end of the play all the more powerful. “Students had their emotions mauled for an hour, but I am sure that because of that, they will take away the strong message that wearing a seat belt is a vital part of road safety” said Head of PSHE Bronwen Gwyther

Time to Rest Wow! It’s Christmas Time already. There’s so much to do – cards to write, presents to buy and wrap and meals to plan. When the children plead for a tree way before Christmas Day, we rummage in the cupboard for last year’s decorations – and then replace them with new and better! Then there’s the School production, the Christmas Fayre and the Church Service to attend. Is there no end to what needs to be done? We all need time to rest. There’s the rub. With so much going on, it’s so easy to miss Jesus! Some of you who read Arrow may not want to see Jesus but you can hardly miss out with Carols blaring out even as you shop. ‘O come let us adore Him’ – most carols are about Jesus. After all, it’s His birthday party. We all need time to rest. In the Churches, we go into overdrive. Christingle Services, Carol Services, Midnight services, Crib Services, Christmas services and more. Some Churches even offer Mulled Wine after worship! Wherever you live in the Isle, your local Church or Chapel will have something planned which gives you time to rest and relax and think about Jesus the Son of God. Watch out for full details on local notice boards and leaflets or in the local Press.

Althorpe and Keadby Children Act as Flag Bearers at Glanford Park On Saturday 27th October, 19 children from Althorpe and Keadby Primary School were fortunate enough to be chosen as flag bearers at the Scunthorpe United v MK Dons game at Glanford Park. The children acted as a "guard of honour": welcoming the players from both teams onto the pitch and waving Scunthorpe flags. This was not as easy as it sounds because it was a very windy day and the flag sticks weren't all that strong! However, our children were brilliant and carried on regardless. We had a great time cheering and shouting, eating and drinking and generally spending a great Saturday afternoon together. Well done to Melina Chapman, Bailey Wilde, Ashley Bainbridge, Willow Sillence, Connor Podmore, Callum Taylor, Rhys Adams, Jennifer Robinson, Emily Neary, Leighton Taylor, Luke Mitcham, Kai Murray, Joshua Tebbutt, Millie Wright, Benny Thorley, Alex Cole, William Hess and Bradley Hirst some of whom won the opportunity to be flag bearers due to the thought provoking questions they posed to Connor Jennings and Christian Ribeiro, for example:-

What do you think of the manager at the moment? What is your diet like? Who is the best player on the team?

Two Authors, one village. Epworth has had its fair share of people who have gone on to fame and fortune. Sportsman Ian Botham lived here for many years and his son Liam Botham went to South Axholme School. Sheridan Smith of ‘two packets’ fame was an Epworthian, and who can forget that guy from Eldorado. Recently David Gatward returned to do a book signing at South Axholme to promote his teenage horror novels. Hoping the follow in their footsteps are two new authors Rebecca Kershaw and Adele Carrington, both locals and both with their first books just released. Rebecca’s Bleed Black is a tale of youthful exploration and the consequences this can have in later life. It follows a group of teenagers on the path of self-discovery in Northumberland. Denial, the first of the Varcolac Journals, is Adele’s new look at the Vampire legends, using Romany mythology and a main character who we can all connect with it takes the reader on a journey of blood, sex and intrigue. Battle of the Books Adele got in contact with Rebecca after an Epworth Bells article; she couldn’t get over the coincidence and just had to get in touch. After lots of coffee and cake, they decided to hold a Battle of the Books in aid of Alexander Strong. “We wanted to do something fun, that would captures people’s imagination and raise money for Lex’s treatment.” Adele said The Battle was born. Five tasks run through December, from a twitter campaign to being able to buy coffee and cake treats loved by the characters in the books in ****. Rebecca says “We’ll be out in Doncaster in fancy dress one week and book signing in Epworth the next, to be honest we aren’t really sure what Charlotte Oatway has planned for us, but I’m sure it will be fun.” Charlotte and her father Steve agreed to get involved when they heard about the idea, not only did Steve Oatway shoot the cover for Denial, he is a close friend to the Strong family. Lex has a rare form of cancer, the treatment he has been recommended is still experimental and therefore costly. All the people who know him speak of his courage and his determination to fight against cancer. It is important that we as a community help him in his fight. 28 Please “TheviaArrow” when responding to advertisements Follow the Battle’smention fun on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/groups/alexanderstrong. You can buy the books at Amazon or order directly from Alexander’s page.
