Community News New Year Resolutions! Have yours already been broken? How about a new start! The Isle of Axholme Supporter Group of Lindsey Lodge Hospice are wanting more volunteers to help raise funds for this most valuable resource for those with life limiting illnesses. Any time and talents are appreciated. The group has been in existence since 2005 and in that time has raised over £110.000! But as you are all aware the government only provides a very small income of what is needed to keep this facility open, the rest has to be raised by generous donations and fund raising, are you able to help? For more information please contact Louise Wright 01724 710664 thankyou.

We already have had expressions of interest from 25 groups who want to play. If you would like to perform at Epworth Music Day 2017 we would like to hear from you as soon as possible. We would also welcome anyone who would like to help to steward the event on the day. So, put the date in your diary and spread the word! Community News A wonderful local win-win situation. A total of 20 businesses have been kind enough to provide Axholme Bridleways Association members with handy discount vouchers for the coming year. The group has in excess of
100 Members who actively support the work of this community group and they will now further support local businesses with valued custom. It is only £5 a year to become a member and locals are encouraged to support the group which helps to preserve routes for future generations. Walkers, dog walkers, cyclists, runners and horse riders form the membership. This active community group was founded in 2012 in response to the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 which states that rights of way already in existence on 1 January 1949, but not shown on the definitive map and statement of our local council by 1 January 2026 will be lost forever. The Group's aim is to keep local offroad routes open, safe and clear for current users and for future generations and be actively involved in groups such as the Local Access Forum, Lincolnshire's Lost Ways and projects such as The Axholme Greenway. Axholme Bridleways Association meet every two months at The Red Lion, Epworth. See www.axholmebridleways.co.uk for more information.
Dillon the donkey proved to be the star attraction at the annual ‘Celebration of Christmas’ service at Crowle Methodist Church. Families flocked to the Fieldside chapel to see the black beauty make his entrance into the carpeted building where he remained for carols and prayers before departing to a round of applause from all the youngsters, without leaving a ‘calling card’ . Afterwards visitors were treated to complimentary refreshments including mince pies. One of the organisers, Roy Briggs said: “This is the fourth time Dillon has attended our Christmas family service and he is so good. We always have a bucket and shovel on hand but so far we’ve never needed to use them.
“We wish to say a big Thank You to the owners, Susan and David Owen from Haxey, who bring him by trailer each year without charge, which is a wonderful gesture. “ Mrs Owen received a bouquet of flowers from church members whilst Dillon returned home happily with a huge bag of carrots. A £50 donation from the collection will go to The Donkey Sanctuary in Devon to help less fortunate donkeys.
