Wishing all our readers a Happy New Year. You may be suffering from the annual feast known as Christmas! The only time of the year where calories don’t count! If so don’t worry there are plenty of sales to visit to burn off those extra calories. Try walking down the local High Street or visit Epworth to see what bargains you can find. If you fancy a walk on the wild side, have you visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park? Plenty of shops and a great cafe and of course news of the painted dog pups born in December. Must be worth a visit! Walking the way to Health in North Lincolnshire; another great activity to get us all moving after the festive period. Take a look at pages 18 and 19 for some walks in your area. Thank you to all the Arrow readers, advertisers and contributors for your input in 2016. I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and I wish you good health for 2017! The deadline for the February issue is Thursday 12th January for distribution by the 1st February. If you are interested in advertising please be in touch before the date.

Pupils of Power This year, Pupils of Power at Eastoft Church of England Primary School have been busy raising funds for charities and school. A Pupil of Power is one child from each year group who represent their peers at monthly meetings. They are nominated by their classmates at the end of the academic year. Kallum (Year 3) said, “It made me feel happy to be voted for so that I can share my ideas.” In September, Pupils of Power designed and made games to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. They linked their games to Roald Dahl as it was his 100th birthday around the same time. These games included: Charlie’s Golden Ticket, the last word of the book, Lucky Chocolate and a book quiz. Tom (Year 4) said, “Everyone enjoyed the games.” Alexi (Year 2) said, “I felt proud to raise money for charity.” In November, they designed and created games to raise money for school at the Christmas fayre. These games included Lucky 7 and Guess the reindeer’s name. Anna (Year 5) said, “It was a fun event.”
Pupils of Power plan to spend the money buying items of their choice for each classroom. They also have plans to raise money in the New Year. Katie (Year 6) said, “We would like to organise an ‘Eastoft’s Got Talent’ and raise money for an animal charity.”

Year 7 Girls Triumphant in Scunthorpe United U13 Football Tournament Year 7 girls from The Axholme Academy played in a 6 a-side football tournament at Appleby Frodingham on Monday 28th November 2016. The competition was at Under 13 level and therefore the girls were competing against players one academic year above them. The night started with a group stage where we played Sir John Nelthorpe, Vale Academy, Huntcliff twice, Baysgarth and St Bede’s. The girls managed to win 4 and draw 2 of these group games which resulted in a 1st place finish within the group and qualification through to the final. The final was a tense affair against local rivals South Axholme Academy. It was end to end stuff but the final score was 0-0. The game went into extra-time and the girls played their hearts out but were unable to find a winning goal. The tournament had to be decided on penalties! After a number of penalties being taken it came down to Lily Stroud who had to score to win the tournament. Lily stepped forward under pressure and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net. The girls were delighted at winning the tournament and were a credit to themselves and the school. PE teacher Miss Pitcher said, “I was so proud of the girls on the night and thought they fully deserved the victory showing grit and determination as-well as skill throughout. They are a dedicated bunch of girls who regularly train on a Thursday lunch.” Well done to all the girls involved! The squad included; Lyla Bardauskas, Tamara Donnelly-Booth, Grace Rowing, Anna Sayles, Lily Stroud, Leah Fillingham, Faith Clarkson and Olivia Clark. Mr L. Beesley Head of PE
