Partner Primary Newspaper Over the past few weeks Mrs Cox & Mrs Parkinson have been visiting pupils at our partner primary schools to help them prepare articles for their third edition of the school newspaper. This culminated in the pupils interviewing pupils and staff on various items such as news, sport and entertainment. The schools include Luddington & Garthorpe Primary School, Althorpe & Keadby Primary School, St Norbert’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy, Crowle Primary Academy and Gunness & Burringham C of E Primary School, Reedness Primary School & Swinefleet Primary School. On Thursday 23rd April pupils made the journey to Lincoln University to spend a full day with university lecturers, students and volunteer journalists helping them bring all their articles together to produce The Axholme Alliance newspaper as well as trying a short TV exercise with third year TV students from the university. Principal, Joe Sellars, said 'It has been really great to see children from our partner primary schools work with my colleagues and Lincoln University to become such accomplished young journalists. I'm sure that their schools and parents will be immensely proud of them when they see what a professional and interesting newspaper they have produced'. PGL 2015 May half term saw 29 students attending our annual trip to PGL at Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire. This is a fantastic trip every year, with students getting the opportunity to take part in outdoor adventurous activities that they wouldn’t get to experience in school, all whilst sleeping under canvas! We spent three nights at the activity centre and were able to participate in 10 different tasks. Students conquered their fears throughout the weekend and took part in activities that they never dreamed they would be able to experience. On the Saturday, groups took part in Abseiling, Orienteering, Vertical Challenge and Aeroball. Vertical Challenge was an activity where the students had to climb upwards on rope ladders, tyres and a climbing wall in order to try and get to the top. They were also responsible for each other’s safety whilst climbing, learning to belay for one another. Aeroball was a fun and tiring activity whereby students bounced on trampolines and had to attempt to score a point by throwing a soft ball into their opponent’s net. On Sunday, we took part in Tunnel Trail, Trapeze, Fencing and Problem Solving. Tunnel Trail is brand new to PGL and the students loved it, climbing through tunnels to work in teams to try and find objects. An old favourite, Trapeze, is a test of mind over matter where students climb to the top of a high pole and then jump to try and catch a bar, very exhilarating! Finally, Monday’s activities were Giant Swing and Low Ropes, the screams from Giant Swing could be heard throughout Lincolnshire! The weekend was a fantastic success, with the songs being sung around camp still ringing in our ears!
