Welcome to the July issue of the Arrow! Lots going on in July, hope you make the time to enjoy the local events around the Isle! We have ‘strawberries and cream’ open gardens, the 121st Crowle show, walks with the Crowle and Ealand Heritage Society, Rescue Day, a race night, Owston Ferry pumping station exhibition and a summer evening of music with the Isle Choral singers. Spoilt for choice and something for everyone! New attractions for this year at the Crowle show include the Joseph Peace fire show, Fly Ball and a Harness Racing demonstration. Crowle Boxing club members are showing their fitness training routine and the Ruby Twirlstars majorettes are performing. Due to their popularity last year, David Seamark with his sheepdogs will be performing. The Lord and Lady of the show (pupils from the local primary school) will be crowned at 1pm . A free minibus will run throughout the day with pick up points at R Nicholson motors, the Market place and at 7 Lakes. The Apple of Your Isle – Apples Day Do you grow apples in your garden? Or perhaps you would be interested in growing fruit? If you have apple trees, maybe you’re nervous about looking after them and pruning them? Perhaps you have some old apple varieties that you can't identify? If any of this rings a bell with you, then following the great success of the event last October, The Apple of Your Isle will be staging another Apple Day on Saturday 13 October from 11 to 3pm at the Old Rectory gardens in Epworth. Among the things on offer will be a chance for you to bring some of your apples and help turn them into apple juice (maximum 2 supermarket bags of fruit; you will need some bottles to take the juice home in). We’ll have experts on hand to help you identify your apples and there’ll be some short workshops on how to prune your trees. There will be music, apple related produce to sample and buy, as well as games to play. All this, and there’s no charge to attend. It should be a great day out. For more details contact Ann Hindley at ann@hindley.gn.apc.org or follow us on our Facebook page.

Isle of Axholme Police Report Jane.proud@humberisde.pnn.police.uk Darius.cook@humberside.pnn.police.uk
With the lighter nights and the warmer weather please be vigilant as to leaving doors and windows open. It only takes a minute for someone to enter your property and take your valuables. Don’t leave handbags, phones tablets etc. on view when you are not in the room. There has recently been a spate of vehicles being taken from driveways with Keys across the Isle. Please be mindful of leaving car keys in plain sight or near your front door. Lock them away or take them to bed with you. Car thief’s are now using sophisticated devices to clone keys and steel your vehicle. Don’t make it easy for them. My Community Alert is now well established, if you haven’t yet joined sign up for free at www.mycomminityalert.co.uk or stop one of us in the street and we will sign you up. www.humberside.police.uk CRIME PREVENTION NEWS: Driver Advice to Combat Car 'Key' Jammers Please check your doors are locked before leaving your vehicle as there has been a recent spate of thefts from cars with the use of electronic car key jammers. Thieves have been using hand-held devices that block signals sent by drivers to lock their vehicles, before entering their unattended, unlocked car and stealing valuables. There has been a recent spike in thefts from vehicles which show no signs of entry, where the driver clearly recalls locking their doors and are confident they can be attributed to thieves blocking their signals remotely. Drivers are pressing their key fob and walking away from their vehicle thinking they’ve locked it, but they are having their frequency blocked by thieves. The only sure way to know your car is locked is to check it manually. If your indicator lights flash, wing mirrors fold in, or the horn beeps when you lock it, this is a sure sign your vehicle has locked, but the failsafe method is to check your door handle manually before you walk away. Basic jamming devices can have a range of 75 metres and affect a whole car park at the time of activation. We are eager to bring this issue and the associated crime prevention advice to the attention of motorists, to enable you to protect your property. The issue of key jamming affects forces nationally and has previously been highlighted by the National Police Chiefs’ Council.

“ This little cutie is Scamp, an 8 year old Yorkshire Terrier cross Jack Russell who is looking for a new home. Scamp is a very happy, friendly chap who is ok with other laid -back dogs, but not small children or cats. He would really suit an active older home where he gets lots of fuss and attention, and has a nice garden to run around in. Scamp is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. If you would like to come and meet this smashing fellow, give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705.”

North Lincolnshire Mayor Making Ceremony Four students from the academy were invited to the North Lincolnshire Mayor Making Ceremony to see local councillor John Briggs take up the role for the next year. The event was held at the Civic Centre in Scunthorpe. Louisa Cross, Ebony Davie, Coby Stark and Ewan Reich were excited to see the election of the mayor and mix with lots of important people involved in local politics. The students were accompanied by Principal, Joe Sellars who said 'Our students found it a really interesting experience as there was lots of formality during the ceremony but also some really light hearted moments. It was really good to see Cllr. Briggs become mayor and launch his year in office.’
Scunthorpe United player- Ryan Yates visits the academy On Tuesday 8th May the KS3 MABLE PE students had a great Q and A session with Scunthorpe United midfielder Ryan Yates period 5. Some excellent questions were asked by the students! Then a brilliant training session took place for 25 lads after school led by Ryan. Alfie Whiting impressed Yates and was presented with a signed match programme from the latest match. Morgan Young, Kain Gibbett and Toby Poole also received signed certificates for excellent performances! Lots of happy young IRON fans.
Artificial Grass Pitch complete The Axholme North Leisure Centre development continues on our school site. The latest part to be completed is the 9v9 artificial grass pitch, pictured. The 9v9 pitch is floodlit with 3 smaller pitches marked out as well. The pitch looks fantastic and our students can’t wait to use it for a variety of sports including football and hockey. The leisure centre as a whole is on schedule for an autumn 18 completion.

White Ribbon Event We were delighted to be asked by the local authority to host the launch of the White Ribbon campaign on Friday 4th May. The event was attended by Dame Liz Redfearn, Leader of the Council Rob Waltham OBE, MP Andrew Percy and a number of councillors including Crowle councillors John Briggs and Julie Reid. Colleagues from the local authority present introduced the campaign to our Year 7 students and they were really interested to hear about how the campaign promotes how unacceptable domestic violence is and how we all need to speak out against it. They were told that whilst most domestic violence is directed towards females by males it is also carried out by females against males and that this is equally unacceptable. Representatives of our Year 7 student body then signed the pledge against domestic violence and received the white ribbon to be worn on their blazers. We will be welcoming back colleagues from the LA in the autumn term to deliver the same message to every year group and to give all students the opportunity to sign the pledge. The pledge is
