Editors Letter… At last the Summer months have arrived, full of long sunny days and warm evenings! Well we can but dream! Let’s hope its an improvement to the rainy months of July last year when many events had to be cancelled. Rescue Day is on Saturday 13th July at 7 Lakes Country Park . If you remember last year it had to be cancelled, all the hard work put into it for local charities as well! Let’s make it a bumper event this year and raise as much money for charity as we can! Let the sun shine! We also have Summer fayres in the region, plenty for the kids to do, so there's no excuses! Perhaps you fancy a bungee jump? If you dare to take up the challenge information is on page 6. Don’t forget there is also the Smithy Museum at Owston Ferry open every Sunday and Bank Holidays until September. Travel back in time and support your local history!

Year 11 Prom May 24th 2013 Nearly ninety students and staff gathered at Castle Park in Doncaster on the last official day of school in order to celebrate the end of year 11â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s time at the Axholme Academy. Students arrived in an array of vehicles including a pink fire engine, a white stretch limo, a red lorry and a party bus. The evening began with a 3 course formal dinner and ended with a disco with staff and students strutting their stuff on the dance floor. A photographer was on hand to take formal and informal pictures of the occasion before the party broke up with students drifting off to after â&#x20AC;&#x201C; prom parties and staff drifting off to sleep!

During the recent Bank Holiday, a team of Air Cadets, from various Squadrons in Sector 2, South and West Yorkshire Wing were out in the Yorkshire Wolds completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Expedition. At the same time, a second team of Air Cadets were out also out completing their practice expeditions, either in preparation for their actual Silver or Gold expeditions. The team, formed of cadets from Armthorpe, Crowle and Goole Squadron completed the 3 day, 32 mile expedition in the Yorkshire Wolds, exploring the rolling countryside. The team were again assisted by Staff from Crowle Squadron. The route set off along a former railway, giving the group a gentle introduction to the area, before rising up into Goodmanham, before meandering to Londesborough, Nunburnholme and finally to the groups campsite near Kilmwick Percy. The group arrived in high sprits, but tired. The soon set up camp and were busy cooking their food. The following day saw the group strike camp and head out towards Pocklington, which they skirted through, before heading out into the Wolds. The group soon climbed into Great Givendale, before heading into Millington and finally up and back into their campsite. Again the group arrived in high spirits, warm but pleased to have made it back. The final day the cadets headed back towards Millington, before descending into Millington Pastures, before climbing back up and out towards Huggate. The group then had an easier route, following some of the dales, before arriving near Wetwang and their end point. Flying Officer Victoria Docherty, of Crowle Squadron said “The weather was great for the expedition, it must have helped the cadets” she continued “They all put a lot of effort in and were all proud of what they achieved when they got to the end”. Squadron Leader Iain Kirk, Officer Commanding Sector 2 said “All cadets did very well and I was impressed with their efforts around a challenging route”. Expeditions and walking are just a few of the many opportunities Air Cadets offer to its members, both cadets and staff. Air Cadets is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17. It is also open to those over 20 who wish to join as a staff and assist in the running of such events. Sports at Althorpe and Keadby School On Thursday 17th May 2013 a group of children from Year 5 and 6 broke Althorpe and Keadby records by qualifying for the regional round of the Tag Rugby Tournament. Having achieved some fantastic results against much larger schools (11-5 victory over Berkeley) the team was feeling confident about succeeding at regional level.

We arrived at Sleaford Rugby club after an eventful journey and proceeded to play our group games. The children's performances were extraordinary and showed that they were more than capable of holding their own against strong opposition. Unfortunately some results didn't quite go our way so we didn't progress to the next round, however, our students should be very proud of the way they played and conducted themselves throughout the day!! We look forward to a successful Summer of sport!
