SINGALONG WITH PAT Last year, after six years of working with dementia and elderly residents as an Activities Coordinator in a local Residential Home, Pat launched her new career as a professional singer, entertaining in residential homes singing songs from the 1940's and music hall days, bringing back musical memories to residents, particularly those suffering with dementia A former business development director, Pat was medically retired in 2004 from a career she loved, following an accident and in 2009 was well enough to work again, she was drawn to working with dementia people, a far cry from her previous career. Pat saw an advert for an activities coordinator in a local residential home and despite no experience or qualifications, her personality and determination to succeed at whatever she turned her hand to, gained her the position. She threw herself into the role, working with residents on a one to one basis and also daily group sessions with various activities. To understand more the various types of dementia, Pat studied and completed NVQ's in Dementia Awareness, Mental Health and Dignity and Safeguarding, giving her a greater depth of knowledge for working with residents. It soon became evident that the residents gained more stimulation and enjoyment from music than any other activity, Pat spent more and more time singing with them, bringing back musical memories from the 1940's and 1950's with everyone joining in singing and some residents enjoying a dance or two. Pat had learnt early on in her time with the residents that dementia does not strip the memory bank where music is stored, enabling those suffering with it to have a feeling of wellbeing and enjoyment through music. Pat has always been able to sing and throughout her life was often the life and soul of any party striking up a song, particularly songs from the 'good old days' which her Mother had taught her as a child Last year Pat was drawn to reaching out to people in other residential homes and day care centres, whose lives have sadly been affected by dementia and infirmity. She found it hard saying goodbye to the residents she had worked with every day for the last six years but she hung up her uniform and now wears costumes which reflect those worn in the 1940's. It has been a busy six months since Pat launched her new 'career' and wherever she goes she is welcomed back again. Her areas include Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster, Scunthorpe, Worksop, Retford and Lincoln, she has even travelled to Bristol twice to sing at a retirement care village at the request of a relative. She has also had the honour of singing at three 100th birthday parties in the last three months. Pat looks forward to continuing her 'singalongs' for some time to come, stimulating minds and enjoyment of musical memories, it is evident how much job satisfaction she gains from what she is doing.
If you want to know more, Pat can be contacted on 07771 795397 for details/bookings. To advertise please call 01302 532676 or 07912 643010

Air Cadets News-Sector 2 - Cosford Part Deux By: Sqn Ldr J Docherty - Sector 2 Support Staff Sector 2, from South and West Yorkshire Wing, again took on the RAF WARMA 2 Day March. The march sees participants complete 40km (25 miles) of road marching each day, over 2 days. After entering a Sector team in 2015, the Sector looked to return and entre another team for 2016. After many months of training, the final team were selected and ready to undertake the challenge again. Despite a number of staff and cadets from the Sector taking part the previous year, around 2/3 of the team were new and had not completed Cosford before. The first day saw the team leave in high spirits, despite an early start. The mood was helped by 2 team members celebrating their Birthdays that day. By the end of the day, they returned into the Station tired, but happy, arriving around an hour earlier than the previous year. Day 2 saw slightly more tired and weary team members heading out, but never the less still full of enthusiasm and good spirit. By the end of the day, the team again returned triumphant, having completed almost the equivalent of 2 marathons in 2 days. The cadets all were awarded medals or clasps for their efforts and shared in the team award, presented to the team as a whole for completing the event. They also received a commemorative coin from the event, as this year was the 35th WARMA Road March. Air Cadets is open to anyone aged 12-17, with cadets able to remain until they turn 20. Part of the national celebrations for the Queen's 90th birthday there were moves to tidy up the country and remove litter. It would be nice to think that this would carry on in future years. I will pledge to keep the boundaries of my property free of litter irrespective of who dropped it. If we all did this, and perhaps helped those who are physically unable to do so, then Crowle and Ealand would be a more pleasant place

Coneygarth Farm Day Nursery was opened in 1997 by Carol and Martin Cooper, they were inspired to open the nursery as they had three young sons, triplets and wanted to provide for them and other children, truly excellent childcare in a lovely rural environment. Their farm, Coneygarth seemed an absolutely ideal place for a children's nursery and over the years they have renovated all the farm buildings. They can take 76 children including 24 children in the Out of School/Holiday Club. As the nursery is on their farm they feel they can offer children quite unique learning opportunities in such a natural and green environment. The children enjoy going out on farm walks, feeding the lambs, watching the cows as well as collecting eggs from the resident hens. The nursery boasts a large vegetable garden, a small nursery wood and two acres of secure woodland. Coneygarth promotes healthy eating and our nursery cook prepares wholesome meals, the meat and vegetables are sourced locally. Coneygarth Farm Day Nursery is committed:
•
to ensuring parents can confidently leave their children in our care knowing they are going to be well looked after. Your child's well-being, happiness and enjoyment is paramount and our number one priority. Our philosophy is to CARE.
•
to valuing the learning children gain through play. All our activities are centred on the individual needs and interest of your child to help them gain personal independence and reach their full potential.
•
to an excellent partnership between parents and our qualified and experienced staff who offer continuity of care throughout the nursery years and onwards throughout the Out of School and Holiday Club ensuring that Coneygarth continues to feel like a big happy family.
All their hard work and efforts were rewarded when they achieved OUTSTANDING in their recent Ofsted inspection. The inspector said that the effectiveness of the leadership and management, the quality of teaching, learning and assessment, personal development, behaviour and welfare and the outcomes for children is Outstanding. He said 'the manager and her leadership team have extremely high expectations. They are very ambitious for children to achieve. Staff share the manager's passion and vision. The children enjoy an excellent range of exciting and very engaging experiences. The staff have outstanding knowledge of how young children learn. They strongly help children to develop their self-confidence, awareness and eagerness to learn.

Crowle based Business gets a Boost from Theo Paphitis A North Lincolnshire based firm has received a boost from Retail Entrepreneur Theo Paphitis. On 17th April Laura Lee, Media Manager at HiViz Safety based in Ealand, Crowle tweeted Theo during ‘Small Business Sunday’ and was one of the lucky few to gain a retweet by Theo to his 500,000 Twitter followers. Business and retail entrepreneur and self-confessed Shopkeeper Theo Paphitis re‐ tweeted HiViz Safety’s message and as a result the Health & Safety business gained many more followers on their social media platforms. This also meant a flurry of sign-ups to their Health, Safety and Employment Law online system. HiViz Safety are also profiled on Theo’s #SBS website www.theopaphitissbs.com that is exclusive to all Small Business Sunday winners. Cliff Dick, Managing Director of HiViz Safety said, “It is great to have support from Theo and fantastic that he has recognised our hard work. He has certainly helped spread the word about the online and on foot services HiViz Safety has to offer.” Small business champion Theo, said: “We are thrilled to welcome new #SBS members every week and highlight just how important it is to support our small businesses here in the UK. My vision is that everyone who has ever won a #SBS re-tweet from me becomes part of a friendly club; like-minded individuals who can share successes and learnings. The website and new #SBSShop will also give a valuable profile to the winners chosen and I wish HiViz Safety every success.” HiViz Safety, 4 Kings Croft, Ealand, Crowle, 01724 712342 info@hivizsafety.co.uk

JUNE Newsletter St Marks Community Group Amcotts
NEW IDEAS
As part of the Queen Elizabeth 90th birthday celebrations, the Rose Queen celebration was reinstated last month at St Marks Church. Many previous Rose Queens attended and hopefully this will now continue for many more years. A very successful tea was held afterwards at the Ingleby Arms with thanks to Julie and Derek for all their efforts. It is at least 25 years since the last Rose Queen was crowned and photographs are still being found for the forthcoming book. A huge thank you to all members of the St Marks Community Group for all their help with the Rose Queen celebration and to SSE Keadby Windfarm, North Lincolnshire Council and Amcotts Parish Council for their grants . It is all very much appreciated and helped to make a special day for the village. If you didn't manage to get there on Bank Holiday Monday hopefully you might want to join a new group being set up in St Marks Church on Wednesday afternoons during June. Gill Bush , Sarah Taylor and Tricia Murphy have set up an "Amcotts House Shops and Trades" Group on Wednesdays. The first meeting will be on the 8th June 2016 at 1-30 p.m - 3-30 p.m. and then continue for four consecutive Wednesday afternoons. This group will trace the history of some of the older properties in the village and make a lasting record for future generations. Come along and bring your photographs and memories. This has been funded by The Bishop of Lincoln's Social Justice Fund and SSE Keadby WindFarm Micro Fund and is free to Amcotts residents and relatives. St Marks Community Group has had a very successful first year and will be holding its first AGM on Monday July 4th 2016 at St Marks Church at 7-00. Come along to find out what we have done in the last year and hope to be doing for the rest of the year.

New York 2016 On the 29th March this year a group of 30 Year 10 and 11 students from both The Axholme Academy and Huntcliff School flew from Heathrow to JFK airport. The night we arrived at ‘The Big Apple’ everyone (even the teachers) were quite tired so we had a wonderful meal in the renowned ‘Bubba Gump’ restaurant which is a tribute to the Forest Gump movie before going to bed. On the first full day in New York City we enjoyed a 20-30 minute walk to grand Central Station with a few stops along the way. We then got on a subway to Battery Park where we got the ferry across to Statue of Liberty and then on to Ellis Island. We learnt lots of amazing, and at the same time horrific historical facts about migration in the 1930’s. On the same day we went to ‘Ground Zero’, the 9/11 memorial where lots of emotions were let out about the terrifying event that happened. We then got free time in Times Square and ate at Hard Rock Café which had an amazing atmosphere. On the second day we went to the Museum of
Modern Art and looked at the Degas exhibition. In the afternoon we went to Central Park Zoo where we saw penguins, bears, lemurs and a snow leopard. That night we ate at Planet Hollywood and saw the ‘The Colour Purple’ on Broadway. The final morning in New York was filled with last minute shopping in Times Square and then back to JFK for the journey back to the UK. It was an amazing and exhausting trip which I hope will be repeated.
