CROWLE AND EALAND MOTHERS CLUB Crowle and Ealand Mothers Club celebrate 60 years in April

In 1958 health visitor Betty Hill and nurse Helen Dyson were in charge of the baby clinic in Crowle. They decided to organise a mother and baby club and mothers went along to the Women's Institute Hall with their babies to meetings held monthly at 2pm. The club grew in membership which meant more babies so meetings were changed to evenings for mothers only and speakers were at first invited sponsored by the health authorities. Faith Burkill and Maureen Lawrence subsequently held coffee mornings and lunches at Faiths home for Macmillan and over the years £20000 has been raised for this good cause. The Mothers Club also support many local charities. Crowle Community Hall was built after member the late Joyce Watson together with Enid Sayles suggested Crowle needed a hall. A concert party was duly formed to raise money for the building of the hall and the mothers had great fun producing many popular lively concerts with comedy, music, dancing and laughter enjoyed by many people and sometimes raising over £1000 a time. The Mothers Club meet at 7pm on the 2nd Wednesday in the month at the Community Hall with speakers covering a range of interests and with a good membership a few being from years ago and with Mary Brown the only founder member. New members are always welcome and as they celebrate their Diamond Anniversary the Mothers Club thank the public for their support from 1958 – 2018.

This very cute boy is Wolfie, a 5 year old Jack Russell. Wolfie is a really friendly, happy boy who just loves a fuss and going for walks. He would be best as an only pet in a home where there are no young children, as he is not used to kids. He would be an ideal companion for an active older person with terrier experience, and where someone is at home for a lot of the time to keep him company. Wolfie is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. Please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705 for more details

Excitement Builds For Rescue Day 2018 Excitement is building for this year’s Rescue Day at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle, near Scunthorpe, which is being held on Saturday 7th July. 999 and rescue teams from across the region are set to descend on 7 Lakes for the annual emergency services day. The event, which first started in 2008, showcases the excellent work that our emergency teams do and allows for the general public to engage with the staff and volunteers who serve and protect us around the clock. It is the biggest of its kind in the country and attracts crowds in the thousands. The day is one for all the family and is an action packed mix of live fire, rescue, rail and water displays and involves fire, police, ambulance, water rescue, road and rail agencies and more. The legendary Red Devils parachute display team are due to make another spectacular entrance to Rescue Day again this year, by performing a parachute landing into the main lake and will be picked up by a flotilla of rescue boat teams. Plus everyone’s favourite furry water rescue dogs from Pete Lewin Newfoundlands will be showing off their skills in the lake. As well as all the high octane displays there will be lots of opportunities to meet and talk to emergency services staff, see vehicles and equipment and take part in interactive displays. The day is organised by a team comprising of frontline fire, ambulance and police personnel from across the North Lincolnshire area and beyond who volunteer their time to run the event. Chris Long, Joint Event Director said: “As always they’ll be lots to see and do, and it really is a day that all the family can enjoy, children and adults alike. We hope those that have been to Rescue Day before will come along again this year to celebrate our 10th year anniversary, and those that haven’t been before will come and experience this unique and exciting event.” The purpose of Rescue Day is to bring together as many rescue services as possible in one place to demonstrate what they do and how they do it. The day raises public awareness on safety issues such as the dangers of open waters, road safety, fire prevention, drink and drug driving plus general community safety issues combined with an interesting yet fun day out. Gates open at 09:30am and tickets can be purchased in advance from mid May via the website www.rescueday999.com and use discount code RESCUEDAY10 for a special offer of 10% off when purchasing online only. Tickets available on the day at the gate at full price. More information is available on the website, or on social media on Twitter @Rescue_Day and www.facebook.com/ rescudedayuk.

New York 2017 15 students and 2 staff from The Axholme Academy travelled to New York City during the Easter holidays for four days. The itinerary was jam packed with students visiting Grand Central Station, The Highline, Central Park Zoo, Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Pizza & Bowling, and a Broadway Show ‘Kinky Boots’. The students enjoyed spending their dollars shopping in Times Square & Century 21 which was just a short walk from our hotel. The students also ate at Planet Hollywood, and an ‘all you can eat breakfast’ in a deli near the hotel. The visit was an exciting cultural experience for the students taking in the hustle & bustle of city life, walking miles across different blocks around the city, seeing the famous yellow taxis and travelling on the subway to Battery Park. Everyone had a fantastic time and will have memories that will last a lifetime.

The Axholme Academy welcomes survivor from the Holocaust Educational Trust

On 30th April 2018, Year 8 and Year 9, 10 & 11 GCSE History students from The Axholme Academy have listened to a testimony from Holocaust survivor, Simon Winston, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) in conjunction with Miss N Wright (History teacher) from the academy. The testimony was followed by a question and answer session to enable students to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth. The visit is part of the Holocaust Educational Trust’s extensive all year round Outreach Programme, which is available to schools across the UK. Mr Sellars (Principal) said, “It is a privilege for us to welcome Simon Winston to our school and his testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced. We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for co-ordinating the visit and we hope that by hearing Simon’s testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.” Karen Pollock MBE, Chief Executive of the Holocaust Educational Trust added, “The Holocaust Educational Trust educates and engages students from across the UK, from all communities about the Holocaust and there can be no better way than through the first-hand testimony of a survivor. Simon’s story is one of tremendous courage during horrific circumstances and by hearing his testimony, students will have the opportunity to learn where prejudice and racism can ultimately lead. “At the Trust, we impart the history of the Holocaust to young people, to ensure that we honour the memory of those whose lives were lost and take forward the lessons taught by those who

This year Crowle Entertainers are presenting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night – one of his most popular comedies. The performances will take place on Saturday 23rd June at 7.30pm and Sunday 24th June at 2.30pm at the Crowle Community Hall. Tickets are priced £5 (£4 concessions) and are available from Crowle Regen Shop and Fancyland, Queen Street, Epworth or by calling 01724 711212 or 07419 319796 or on the door. For lovers of Shakespeare and also for all those who think Shakespeare is not for them – come along and give this a try! We are a community drama group and some of us are probably more frightened of Shakespeare than you are!! The production is set in what was possibly the craziest of all decades - the swinging 1960s - when the times were very definitely a-changing. Lively and energetic with references to the huge impact of the Beatles, the birth of youth culture and "flower power", the production features lots of music and dance from that era. Identical twins Viola and Sebastian set out on a cruise but are shipwrecked and cast up on shore on the sun-soaked coast of Illyria. Each believing the other to be drowned, they set out on their own adventures and seem to find adoring fans wherever they go. Viola, whilst disguised as a man, falls in love with the Count Orsino (in our production he's a rich businessman in the music industry), whilst Sebastian is pursued by Antonia – Orsino's rival in business. Orsino meanwhile is in love with the beautiful Olivia – who is already being courted by Andrew Aguecheek and has another secret admirer in Malvolio. She, however, falls in love with the disguised Viola – believing her to be a man. Will time untangle this complicated love knot? Come along to see our production and find out!
