Welcome to the March issue of the Arrow. This month we celebrate Mothers Day. Did you know it falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent and Mothering Sunday can fall at the earliest on 1 March (in years when Easter Day falls on 22 March) and at the latest on 4 April (when Easter Day falls on 25 April)? We celebrate buying gifts of chocolate or flowers for our mums as a way to thank them for all they have done for us. So what are you doing this Mothers Day on Sunday 15th March? Make sure you treat your mum to something special. I feel honoured to still have my mum; she is now 84 years old and still as fit if not fitter than me. I haven't quite decided what to do, but the day will be a special one. The deadline for the April issue is Wednesday 11 March. If you would like to advertise our advertising rates start from only £20 per month! Enjoy the read and Best Wishes Carolyn (editor) carolyn@arrowpublications.co.uk Tel: 01302 532676 Mob: 0791 2643 010 www.arrowpublications.co.uk

Neighbourhood Policing Priorities as agreed by the Neighbourhood Action Team Meeting which was held on Tuesday 25th November 2014 -Full details can be viewed on www.humberside.police.uk Ongoing Issues Market Place, Crowle - Anti-social Behaviour We stress that calls that we have received have reduced during the cold weather. We are still speaking to the youth in the area and take appropriate action should we come across any Anti-social Behaviour or Criminal Damage. We reiterate that there are only a small number of youths that are causing the problems and the majority are well behaved. Keadby – Anti- social Behaviour Since issuing several ABC (Acceptable Behaviour Contract) to the main youths causing the problems, this has seen a significant decrease in anti-social logs. The Local Neighbourhood Team still continue to patrol the area and working with other agencies continue to monitor the situation. Burglaries Crowle (Shed and Out Buildings) – There continues to be a decrease in this type of crime but we are making every effort to inform residents of what steps they can take to safeguard their properties. If you require any crime prevention advice do not hesitate to contact the team on telephone number 101 or call into Epworth Police Station to speak to an officer (office hours are 10am to 4pm Tuesdays and Thursdays). Information Police are asking people to be extra vigilant after attempts have been made to steal ATM machines in our area. An attempt had been made to remove the ATM from the wall in the Crowle area using heavy duty vehicles or plant. These vehicles have been stolen during the early hours of the morning. If you see anything or anybody acting suspicious around such a machine do not hesitate to contact the police immediately. Also we are asking farm owners and heavy machinery owners to properly secure any such items that could be used in this type of theft and if they discover any of their vehicles missing to immediately contact the police. As always our non-emergency number is 101, and in an emergency please dial 999, Regards from Dean, Wendy and Paul.

A new ‘hands-on’ holistic practice is being started at Crowle by local resident Sandra Briggs who believes it will bring relief and relaxation to anyone feeling jaded and in need of a pick-me-up tonic. She has launched her business, Zen Chi, offering stress-free healing, following a three year training course, and, with her 2nd degree in Reiki Healing, is now qualified to treat clients professionally. Sandra, a carer, has already been in demand using her skills on family members, friends and colleagues, and has received numerous cards and letters of thanks. (see genuine testimonials below) Sandra says: “I enjoy what I do. Putting people at ease and helping them to cope with their worries and anxieties is an extremely rewarding therapy. “It’s all about channelling a client’s own healing energy. The aim is to find a balance of calm and peace in this stressful world. ” She has set up a treatment room at her home but is also happy to visit clients at their own homes if necessary. Reiki is a hands-on, non-manipulating treatment which is classed as gentle and safe. It helps to reduce stress levels, promote relaxation and prompts self-healing via the Reiki energy (the Rei in Reiki is defined as Universal Life Giving whilst the Ki is defined as energy). It is said to be able to heal on physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels and can be used on any living thing including animals, plants and crystals. The origin of Reiki can be traced back to ancient Tibet, thousands of years ago and the technique was rediscovered in the late 19th and early 20th century by Dr Mikao Usui of Japan. Sandra adds: “Prospective clients can rest reassured that confidentiality is guaranteed under the Code of Ethics drawn up by the Reiki Association in accordance with the Reiki Council.”

Reiki is a hands-on, non-manipulating treatment which is classed as gentle and safe. It helps to reduce stress levels, promote relaxation and prompts self-healing…….why not give it a try? Here are a few testimonials: “Thank you for my Reiki session. I found it therapeutic and relaxing and must say my knee hasn’t given me any problems since. Look forward to another session” – Rosemary Wood. “About to have my 3rd Reiki, must say I love it. After the first session I’ve never felt so calm. Like it and highly recommend” - Sarah Pashley. “I was in a lot of pain with heel inflammation and struggled to walk my dog. It only took a few Reiki sessions for my heel to improve and 3 months later I’m totally out of pain. I would certainly recommend Reiki with Sandra in the future” – Lorraine Cross.

14/14 for the Axholme Academy students! From September, 14 students from The Axholme Academy have worked with The Lincolnshire FA to complete their Football Referee Award. This has involved completing a Safeguarding children award, 6 football matches under assessment, as well as a practical and theory exam. All 14 students achieved this with a 100% record. The Referees have been working closely with the Jack Kalson League to complete their 6 training games, which have taken place on a Saturday and Sunday. Carrie Dodge (staff member from The Axholme Academy) organised the course so that students could use this new skill as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award. The course was more popular than expected. Miss Dodge says, “The course has helped the students learn more than just rules about the game, I believe the students have learnt new personal skills such as communication, organisational and leadership which will help them in their future, as well as earn a bit of money for their officiating. I am extremely proud of all of the students for their commitment, hard work and dedication to learning.” Once the students turn 16, they can progress up the ladder of officiating football and maybe one day appear on the board of Premier League referees. The Academy hope to continue to run this course and open it to all students once they turn 14 years of age

Winter Writer’s Competition Young people from all over North Lincolnshire have taken part in a Creative Writing competition. The secondary schools and colleges that have taken part are from the local area. The judge of the competition is Addy Farmer; who’s a published children’s author. Some of the books that have been published are; Grandad’s Bench and Siddharth and Ranki. Have you ever read them? Her next picture book, Worlds Apart is due out with Frances Lincoln in May 2015. Her teen novel, The Empty Girl, is a supernatural adventure story of love and loss, and had won the 2014 Northern Writers Award for a work-in-progress. All the winning entries will be published in an anthology. The writing is based on a picture of a boy/girl holding a lamp at the top of a hill and around them are trees, stars and a shooting star on a dark winter’s night. The style of the writing is up to them; it could be a short story, a poem, a blog or a newspaper article, but must be inspired by the picture. The writing can be up to 500 words or can be as few as 10. There’s no set minimum for the piece of work as it is up to the participant’s to decide This should help young people discover their creative side and to unleash their true potential. Already so many enthusiastic students have entered and are hoping to win the 1st place prize. We are pleased to announce that the KS3 winners are Sophie Walker (Year 9) in first place and Barbara -Ann Mclaughlin (Year 7) in second place who will have their work published in an Anthology as well as receiving a Megastar Certificate and a £10.00 Book Token each.
