ROB HAMMOND FROM LINCS FM VISITS THE AXHOLME ACADEMY The Axholme Academy was very lucky to receive a visit from Lincs FM presenter Rob Hammond on Wednesday 3rd February. Every week Rob Hammond visits different streets in Lincolnshire for his ‘Right Up Your Street’ feature. During his visit Rob was interviewed by students for the AX NEWS student newspaper which will be appearing in our sumL-R Lewis Vipurs, Daisy Butler, Megan Hornsby, Rob Hammond, Eve Jones, mer edition. Prior to his visit we mocked Amy Thornton, Caitlyn Edwards & Megan Watson up the front page of the AX NEWS with a photo of Rob and the headline ‘Academy visited by Rob Hammond’ and lots of photos were taken to use on Lincs FM twitter account, our website etc. Rob chose a topic to ask the students about which was ‘what did the students think life was like in the 80’s which received various answers such as there were no mobile phones, different fashion and the TV only having 4 channels. Mr Sellars, Principal, said ‘when we heard that Rob was due to visit Crowle for his feature we decided to get in touch and invite him to visit. We were delighted he could come along and meet our students. Their contributions were featured in his programme a couple of days later and they came across brilliantly. Rob also chatted with the ladies in our kitchen who also recorded contributions. His visit will feature in the next edition of the AX News’ Look out for our report and photos in more detail in the Summer edition of the AX NEWS.

Crowle & Ealand Town Council
We now have a new website
www.crowleandealandcouncil.org Please take a look at our new website which shows all councillors and council information such as minutes, agendas and newsletters.
Please also look at the Community Page where you will find Community Groups which details recreational and leisure groups in the area and contact details for them. If your group is not listed or you want to amend any details please let the clerk know and we will update the database. If you look at the events calendar, and any group wishing to advertise an event, meeting or activity please let the clerk know and we will happily add it to the calendar. We are hoping that community groups will make use of this when planning events so as to avoid clashes. Community Services are also listed on the page and we need help in populating this to make it a really useful directory for residents. We are unable to advertise local traders here, these is in the main a public service directory. There is also application guidance on local grant funding. Any feedback will be much appreciated in order that we can continue to refine the website.

March Newsletter for St Marks Community Group Amcotts The SSE Keadby Wind Farm Micro Fund of £1500 was distributed between six villagers to establish groups in Amcotts all of which are proving very successful. Family Bingo – Sara Ritchie The first very successful Family Bingo was held on the 7th December 2015 to raise funds for St Marks and the next one is organised for March 14th 2016 at the Ingleby Arms Gardening Group - Tricia Murphy This group organised a large skip to remove all the rubble from the Churchyard and planted pansies all round the newly renovated War Memorial A brown bin is now available in the Churchyard. The Parish Council has employed North Lincs. Council to maintain the Jubilee Garden on Church Street Mad Hatters of Amcotts - Julie Horton Three very successful afternoon Teas have been held on 29th September 2015, January 26th 2016 and February 23rd at The Ingleby Arms. These have now become a regular event on the last Tuesday afternoon of the month between 2-00 and 4-00. Price £10-00. Next one will be Tuesday March 29th. Arrow Newsletter - Debbie Booth Amcotts Parish Council began funding the Arrow from an SSE grant in 2015 and now Debbie and the St Marks Community Fund have taken this over for 2016 with a further grant. Although delivered free to every household the SSE Grants pay for the page and thanks to Martin Moorhouse for delivery. Slimming Club – Louise Lee Louise started this group to lose weight before Christmas on a Tuesday night at the Church After the redecoration this Club will meet again on Tuesdays at 7-00 in March Children's Crafts – Paul Hickingbottom At many fundraising events the group tries to give something to the children of the village which previously have been very kindly donated by the Churchwarden. It is hoped we can provide the eggs for the Easter egg hunt to be held on Bank Holiday Monday March 28th at the Ingleby Arms at 2-00. Moving St Marks Church organ In St Marks Church we have a beautiful Church organ which we believe could be shown off to better advantage. We are hoping to move the Church organ on to the back wall of the Church on to a landing. We would also restore any leather sheepskin work that has decayed during the damp period of the Church and give it a very good service and overhaul all the keys to maintain it for future generations. Moving it upwards would also make some space to install a sink and servery for refreshments for worship and community functions and a multi gender disability toilet behind the Church door Many Church organs are on the back wall and sound far better than on the floor and become a feature of the Church for photographs. The Reverend Cliff Kay, the Church organist Ian Thomas and the Parochial Church Council are all in support of this application. Should any member of the village wish to discuss these proposals please ring or call Tricia Murphy at the Old Post Office Amcotts

Student Newspaper 2016 Over the past few weeks, 15 students from Years 7, 8 & 9 have been busy preparing articles for the Spring edition of the ‘AX NEWS’. This culminated in the students interviewing students and staff on various items such as news, sport and entertainment and then on Thursday 7th January travelled to Lincoln University to work with journalism lecturers who spent a full day helping our students in bringing all their articles together to produce the ‘AX NEWS’ Academy Principal, Joe Sellars, said ‘We have produced our newspaper working with Lincoln University for 7 years and each has been even better than the ones before and we expect the spring edition to keep up this high standard. Our students put in an awful lot of preparatory work before the full day with the university and this ensures that we produce a great read. An entirely new set of young reporters have worked on this paper and their enthusiasm and dedication has been exceptional.’ Copies of the newspaper will be distributed to students, parents & members of the community. It will also be available on our school website www.theaxholmeacademy.com
