Community News Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday March 1st Charlie Barnes is the Wildlife Recorder for the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, but he is also the County specialist on beetles and a very entertaining speaker. There is a huge variety of beetles in the country and they often have very interesting lives but yet most of us know very little about them. Do come along and join us to find out more about these interesting creatures. All our indoor meetings are held on the first Thursday of the month in the Stephen Jones Hall at the rear of the Methodist Chapel in Haxey at 7.30pm. We look forward to welcoming all regular members and new visitors. There is a small charge of £1 and there is a raffle and refreshments. Don’t forget that bird food is always on sale at our indoor meetings and at Chris Trinder's house in Belton, at very competitive prices, just ring if you need anything. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.

The beacon on Tower Hill will be lit at 7.00pm followed by the ringing of Haxey church bells at 7.05pm. The campaign to recruit bell ringers, Ringing Remembers, will keep this traditional British art alive in memory of the 1,400 who lost their lives – linking together past, present and future. The Fitter family from Westbourne Drive have won the coveted Best Decorated House – The Brigley House Trophy. As a committee, we have had lots of lovely comments this year about how lovely the lights were – described by many as ‘best ever’ – which is heartening. However, we are a small committee of 6 people and if new people do not come forward there is a real danger that Crowle Lights could fold this year. Our Chair Jack Bower is stepping down due to work pressures. I am stepping down as Secretary due to a combination of reasons that leaves me little time. We also have several members who are not in the best of health. I would therefore like to appeal to our local community to step forward – or risk losing our great tradition. We need people who can help out at the odd event during the year, can give up some time in November for set up and January for take down – also people with committee/organisational skills (or who are office trained and can learn it easily). Axholme Academy Photo Competition The decision to revive the Axholme Academy Photo competition was mostly because of the high standards achieved in previous times and to give the staff, students and community a chance to show what they were capable of. The theme was set as ‘Winter.’ All entrants were put on the Academy Facebook site and voting took place in early January. The standard was, again, incredibly high. The winners were: Students 1st [and overall winner] Eve Jones Joint 2nd Ella Turner and Grace Rowing Community 1st Shelley Goulding 2nd Sara-May Bucceri 3rd Lisa Pearce Staff 1st Emma Winder Another competition will be run in the Summer, with the theme to be decided on nearer the time.
