Neighbourhood Policing Priorities as agreed by the Neighbourhood Action Team Meeting which was held on Tuesday 17th February 2015 -Full details can be viewed on www.humberside.police.uk Ongoing Issues Market Place, Crowle = Anti-social Behaviour. This continues to be a priority, it was agreed that it should continue at the last Neighbourhood Action Team meeting as a community action. There has, in the past couple of months, no incidents of any note, however it is an area frequents teenagers. We stress that calls that we received have reduced during the cold weather but spring is around the corner this may change. We speak to the youths in the area and take the appropriate action should we come across any ASB or criminal damage. We reiterate that there has been only a very small number of youths that are causing the problems and the majority are well behaved. Anybody who experiences any problems please report the matter so that we can deal with the incident at the earliest opportunity. The non-emergency telephone number for Humberside Police is 101. Keadby = Anti-social Behaviour. It was agreed at the last Neighbourhood action team meeting that this area was to continue as a priority. The area over the summer months has had several people frequent the area drinking alcohol over a period of several hours. After working with other agencies this has resulted with no problems from these people. In the last few weeks there has been the odd incident in the area but nowhere near the amount that we were experiencing towards the end of last year. With the significant reduction in anti-social behaviour logs the area has improved. We continue to monitor the situation and make frequent patrols of the area and continue working with other agencies. Information Neighbourhood Watch Groups(NWG) - If you join a Neighbourhood Watch Group in your street or area you will get to know your neighbours. From this – you’ll know who’s away, what cars they drive, etc. You’ll know if something doesn’t look right – if that happens then call us your local neighbourhood policing team. By looking out for your friends and neighbours you can help prevent them from becoming another victim of crime. The person organising the NWG is known as the Co-ordinator and he/she will be supported by Safer Neighbourhoods, Your first job is to see if there is any interest from your neighbours, if there is a sufficient level of interest then your Local Neighbourhood Policing Team with your details. When the group is up and running Neighbourhood Watch signs will be put up by Safer Neighbourhoods. As always our non-emergency number is 101, and in an emergency please dial 999, Regardscall from Dean, 532676 Wendy and To advertise please 01302 or Paul. 07912 643010

FROM STREET TO STUDIO! ‘Street Beat’ originally an Urban Dance Company is very quickly expanding into the more classical areas of Dance. Founded in 2007 and now teaching over 600 young people a week of which 50% are boys is reacting to the demand for the more traditional dance styles including Ballet, Tap, Contemporary, Singing, Musical Theatre and Stage Combat. When asked if there are not already enough Dance Schools out there providing this style, Creative Director Kim Oakley who founded the Company said “We have had so many requests to expand into these areas that we simply cannot ignore it. I believe we offer so much more than the traditional Dance Schools in that we are a centre of Excellence and more than that we are a family. We have had so much national and international success in the Urban Style including performances in Los Angeles where our Elite Troupe performed alongside prestigious LA Troupes that we felt compelled to offer more opportunities to students who wish to follow a career in dance or simply to explore their ability in other styles” Street Beat also works hard in the community in partnership with local councils and the Police in targeting deprived areas and disability groups and giving opportunities for young people to showcase their abilities as demonstrated in the recent choreography platform through Yorkshire Dance in which the winner is now receiving mentoring by Joss Arnott and a scholarship in London’s Sadlers Wells. The Elite Troupe ( a group of exceptionally talented dancers) is open to all students by audition and have represented the North of England at U Dance and who’s successes are too numerous to list but include Breakin Convention Tour, Winners of Fresh 2014 and VIP guests at Europe’s largest open air Theatre. So why is Street Beat so successful? Kim replied “I believe what sets us apart from other Dance Schools is our passion, inspiration and imagination. Young people can quickly become stale and all our teachers have been selected for their ability to inspire, for an inspired and passionate dancer will always stand out from the crowd. We have high standards of motivating skills and this is paying dividends in our Musical Theatre, Acting and Singing classes. Our students aim high with many applying to prestigious Colleges such as Laine’s Theatre Arts, London, CAPA and Renaissance and it is wonderful to have played a role in their success.

This handsome boy is Scooby, a young Staffy Cross Whippet who is looking for his new home. What a fantastic little characterScooby just loves everyone, and is always happy to see you- his whole body wags, not just his tail! He loves playing football and has lots of toys, so a fairly active home is preferred. He seems ok with most other dogs and cats. Scooby is neutered and fully vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting this lovely boy, please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705

"Somewhere Under the Sun" was the theme for Epworth Flower Club's April meeting. Popular, returning, demonstrator, Di Smith, from Market Rasen inspired members with a kaleidoscope of exotic arrangements from around the world. Di's passion for her subject became obvious as she worked effortlessly on designs, ranging from a minimalist Japanese creation, featuring a giant white phalaenopsis orchid with turquoise wool and sticks to a flamboyant South African design of tropical leaves mixed with burgundy anthuriums, shocking pink gerbera and purple statis. Humour was never far away as she kept her audience entertained with a constant stream of interesting and often hilarious anecdotes in her inimitable deadpan manner. Fiona Burrell thanked Di for such an enjoyable and inspirational demonstration and the evening concluded with refreshments, a plant swap shop and raffle of the arrangements. The next meeting on 11th May is a workshop with Sarah Atwell and there will be another plant stall. Visitors and new members are always welcome. Please ring 01427 872114 for further details.

New York Visit On Tuesday 31st March, 17 students and 4 teachers from The Axholme Academy set off on a once in a lifetime trip to New York. The day began with a bus journey to Manchester International Airport in the early hours of the morning, and at 10 o’clock we began our flight to JFK, it was an interesting take off! We landed at roughly 2 o’clock local time, where we then got on another bus with a tour guide called Betty who introduced us to the city. Eventually we arrived at the Vanderbilt YMCA hostel, it was in central Manhattan and we were only a ten minute walk from Times Square. We were given our rooms, and then were given a few minutes to settle before we were off again! We then went for our tea at Bucca de Beppo Italian restaurant, where the food was fantastic and extremely plentiful. We then took a walk through Times Square before we were allowed to collapse on our beds! The next day, started with a 8 o’clock breakfast at Morning Star Café, where we got to experience American breakfast – ‘eggs sunny side up’. We then took the subway, which was an experience we’ll never forget, to Battery Park, to get the boat to see the Statue of Liberty, which was very impressive. Afterwards we took the same ferry to Ellis Island where we got to look around at the records of immigrants to the USA. Once back in Manhattan we took a walk to Ground Zero where we paid our respects to the victims of the 9/11 attacks. We then returned to Times Square to do some more shopping, eat some street food and take some selfies! Afterwards we went on to eat at the Bubba Gump restaurant, which is famous from the film Forrest Gump. Fried shrimp and coleslaw all round! Our final day began with a cultural pit stop at the Museum of Modern Art, here we got to see artwork costing millions of dollars including the works of Picasso, Warhol, Kandinsky and Magritte. After we had exhausted our intellect we took a leisurely stroll around Central Park, finishing off at the Central Park Zoo where we saw sea lions, penguins, a grizzly bear and all sorts of lizards. Hard Rock café was our final stop, the food was fantastic and so was the memorabilia on the walls. We concluded our trip with the fantastic experience of watching a Broadway show, Mamma Mia. All in all we had a good day folks!

Disneyland Paris Netball Tour 2015 On the 29th March 2015, 40 students along with 4 members of staff from The Axholme Academy travelled to Paris in order to take part in an International Netball Festival. This was the first time a sports tour had run at the Academy so we were looking forward to the trip. The students spent three fun-filled days playing netball against other schools from across the country, taking part in coaching master classes from ex-England players and spending time in the Disneyland Paris parks. The girls’ netballing ability improved considerably throughout the course of the trip and their effort, attitude and behaviour was phenomenal. Day 1 and 5 were spent travelling and being thoroughly entertained by our coach driver, Kevin. We even managed to squeeze in a dip in the swimming pool at our accommodation, Davy Crockett Ranch on Day 1. On the second day, each of the four teams took part in four netball matches throughout the morning and then spent the afternoon in Disneyland Paris. The morning of Day 3 was spent in Walt Disney Studios followed by our coaching in the afternoon. The students learnt different tactics for attacking, defending and shooting, alongside taking on certain challenges such as how far they could leap and how long they could hold a plank for. These tactics were invaluable for our match play the following day. On Day 4 each of our teams were put into various competitions, dependent on ability, therefore they were playing against similarly matched teams and the games were much more exciting and well fought. Our Under 16 team was the most successful, managing to win two of their matches in the Challenge Cup. The students were given some more time in the parks, this was mostly spent shopping and picking up presents for family members back home. That evening we were invited to a presentation evening, where each of our teams managed to claim a trophy, which was presented to the captains by the current England Netball players Sasha Corbin and Lindsay Keable. All in all, this was an extremely successful trip and Miss Downs, Miss Harrison, Miss Whiting and Miss Danoris would like to thank our students for their amazing behaviour throughout.
