A thank you from ECWA (Eastoft Community Welfare Association) to those who have completed the Eastoft Village Survey in last month's edition of the Arrow or on line at

www.eastoftcommunity.info We appreciate that there were some technical problems with the on-line survey but these have now been resolved. Due to a low response rate (which may be due to Easter holidays) we are holding the on-line survey open until May 12th and it is available again in this month's edition of the Arrow, in case you would prefer to do a paper version. Eastoft village news is regularly updated on the website: www.eastoftcommunity.info by ECWA to keep residents informed of what is happening in the village, such as at the school, the church, the village hall or information that local residents want to share with others. For example did you know that we have an Outreach Post Office service at the Eastoft village hall every Tuesday from 9am - 12pm? The Eastoft Gardening Club has recently been formed and meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Eastoft village hall at 7.30pm. In May they have Doug Stewart as a guest speaker. The next Eastoft Parish Council Meeting is at the Eastoft village hall on Monday 9 May at 7.30pm and after that it will be on: Monday 11 July. Members of the public are welcome to come along between 7.30 and 7.45pm to speak with Parish Councillors or to raise any concerns. Finally the Eastoft Community Welfare Association (ECWA) will be at the village hall for an informal gathering on Tuesday 17th May at 7.30pm to share the survey results. If you are new to Eastoft village or a long standing resident who would like to be more involved in village life both at the hall and the playground, then please pop along and join us. Refreshments will be available. We look forward to seeing you there! Eastoft Community Welfare Association (Registered Charity No: 515486)

The academy was shortlisted for the Green Construction Award at the prestigious 2016 Humber Renewables Awards held at The Deep in Hull on 3rd March. The awards, sponsored by Siemens celebrate the Humber becoming an international hub for renewable energy, expertise and innovation. The academy was pitched against Hall Renewables and St Stephen's Shopping Centre in Hull for the Green Construction Award. Hall Renewables, based in Hull, won the award for their work in installing carbon neutral heating, insulation and construction of a flood alleviation scheme in Leconfield. The academy was recognised for our work in energy conservation through installation of biomass boilers, LED lighting, insulation and double glazed windows. Much of this investment was funded by grant funding that the academy has been very active in making applications for. Principal, Joe Sellars, said 'we were really excited to be shortlisted for the award especially being up against a huge shopping centre that has installed 1100 solar panels on its on its roof and a big renewable energy company. We really appreciate being recognised as a school that is really aware of the benefits of renewable energy and ensuring that as much of our funding as possible is spent on students and not energy bills. Our Business Manager, Andrea Harkin, has made several successful bids for government funding, against a lot of competition, that have paid for a lot of the investment we have made.'

Into Film Awards 2016 Into Film gives every child and young person aged 5 to 19 in the UK the chance to experience film creatively and critically as part of a rich and well-rounded education, whilst also learning skills they can use to build a career in the film industry. They support teachers and educators to achieve a wide range of effective learning outcomes in their use of film. Their programme includes a network of extracurricular film clubs, resources for use in clubs and in the classroom, training opportunities, a cinemabased film festival and our annual Awards. A group of our students worked with local film maker Annabel McCourt of Cut Ltd. To produce a short film that was subsequently entered into the 2016 Into Film Awards. We were delighted to hear that the film was shortlisted and the students were invited to the prestigious Into film Awards at the Leicester Square Odeon in London on 15th March. This was a glitzy affair with A list celebs such as Simon Pegg attending. We were very happy and proud to see our students actually win the award for Best Documentary and astonished to learn that this was against 1500 entries! The star of the film is William McCullion and the rest of the crew comprised Caitlin O’Leary, Alice Balderston, Luke Slaney and Tiffany Robinson. Kieran Bew who recently starred in ITV’s Boewolf presented the award

St Norbert's Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy 'To live, love and learn in the footprints of Jesus'

Our children have again been successful in the Scunthorpe Speech and Drama Festival and children from Reception age through to Year 6 entered as both individuals and as part of our Choral Speaking Groups. Both our Infant and Junior Choral Speaking Groups were awarded 1st place and performed again at the concert to close the Festival. In addition, our Adult Choral Speaking Group made up of staff, governors and parents also took 1st place. The photograph shows the children from the Junior Choral Group. The children are now busy practising for the Music Section of the Festival which takes place in May, again as soloists, musicians or part of the school choir. Our After School Activity Clubs are organised for the Summer Term and the children will have the opportunity to continue with Dance, Football with Football in the Community, Art, Multi Sports, Netball and Football Team Coaching for our Academy Team. Other “big news this month is our UNICEF Rights Respecting School Award Level 2. This is the culmination of hard work by children, staff and governors and means that the values and principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) have permeated into all aspects of our school community. This shows that we have a knowledge and understanding of the CRC, have a rightsrespecting ethos and empowers our children to promote active global citizenship. On June 18th, we will be holding our annual Summer Fayre and invite you to join in the fun and games. The fayre will open at 11.30am and finish with the Grand Draw and competition prizes at 2pm. We look forward to seeing you there, whatever the weather!
