Isle of Axholme – North Ward Priorities ** for full details go to the Humberside Police web page. Market Place and Potts Lane, Crowle – Anti-social behaviour and Criminal Damage to Property.
PC1717 Graham Godley
PCSO 7889 Wendy Frear
PCSO 7576 Paul Fearon
During September there have been no calls for service for the Market Place or for Potts Lane. Previously there have been incidents in the Market place related mostly to noise both from vehicles and group of youths hanging about in the area. The same can be said for the area at Potts Lane being anti-social behaviour. At the most recent Neighbourhood Action Team meeting held at Keadby on 21 st August 2012, Town Councillor Ron Stewart informed members that the Market Place and Church Street in Crowle had been quieter over the past two months and anti-social behaviour seemed to have been significantly reduced. Even though there have been no calls for service in these areas the Neighbourhood Team still include the area on the regular patrol matrix and stop and check any vehicles and persons in the area. Often groups are spoken to in the Market Place but are not committing any offences and so the Police have no powers to move them on from the public area. Any offences which are revealed are dealt with positively.
Windsor Park and Godnow Road, Crowle. During September there have been no calls relating to incidents on Godnow Road and particularly Windsor Park. Previously there have been problems at the park being, noise and litter generated by cars and youths attending in the car park late at night. North Lincolnshire Council Safer Neighbourhoods is aware of the situation and is in the process of conducting a survey with residents on Godnow Road to evaluate the extent of the perceived problems. Safer Neighbourhoods, the Police and other partner agencies have been encouraging young people to use the facilities at Windsor Park in order to prevent groups of bored youths wandering or congregating around the town centre area. The playing field committee are considering having gates erected across the entrance and exit to the car parking area. Extra police patrols are being made in the area with a view to identifying those concerned and taking positive action against them if any offences are identified. Residents who experience any ASB problems are asked to report the matter at the time it is occurring so that a police patrol can attend and deal with the matter promptly. The non emergency telephone number for Humberside Police is 101.
Recent Issues. HARASSMENT, ASSAULT, WITNESS INTIMIDATION = A male from Crowle has appeared in North Lincolnshire Magistrates and was found guilty of harassment. He received a sentence of 50 days. TRAFFIC OFFENCE = A male was arrested on A18 for drink driving. He had driven his vehicle into a marked police vehicle that had been parked up dealing with a motorist. Both the officer and driver suffered minor injuries and the male arrested had been bailed for further enquiries. ASSAULT = A male from Crowle has been given a verbal warning regarding his involvement in an assault. The injured party requested no further action other than a warning. TRAFFIC OFFENCE = A female from Eastoft has received a fixed penalty ticket for driving whilst on her mobile phone. Thefts on Axholme North = During September there have been several reports of suspicious vehicles, which have been driving the villages, entering people’s gardens looking for scrap metal. Although there is nothing to link them there has been several thefts of items from the grounds of businesses and peoples homes. Can you please ensure that items of any value are locked away? If you see anything you consider to be suspicious, please note any descriptions of persons and vehicles involved and report the matter at the time via the non emergency number 101 or 999 if you deem serious enough. Alternatively if you hear about any incidents after the event and believe that you may have information to assist in tracing persons responsible, please contact the Neighbourhood Team on the following e-mail addresses dean.southam@humberside.pnn.police.uk. paul.fearon@humberside.pnn.police.uk. ‘Thought’ for Crowle/Althorpe Edition of Arrow I have recently been told the best sermons are those that have a good beginning and a good ending and that the two should be as close together as possible. Needless to say, I disagree! When I tried it at one of the Harvest Services, I was asked for more! I usually listen to ‘The Sunday Service’ on the radio on Sunday mornings as a kind of preparation for the day. Preachers have to be short (and sweet) because the whole service has to be over in 35 minutes. It’s a bit like that on Remembrance Sunday. I have a deadline to meet to keep the two minutes silence on time. It is only when my watch bleeps that I know whether I have got it right. I have to concede that whatever I say in my good beginning or good ending, most people on Remembrance Sunday are looking for the silence. During those two minutes, some will remember fallen comrades and the atrocities of war, others will remember family members who fell and still others will remember and pray for those still fighting today. I will keep the middle short! Rev Timothy Buckley Rector of St Oswald’s Church Althorpe with Keadby

Gunness and Burringham Fun Run Well done to the 10 boys and girls who participated in the Gunness and Burringham race on Sunday 7th October. This has become an annual event for our school and Mrs Tate was very pleased that so many wanted to run. It was a wonderful morning for running and all our runners really enjoyed the challenge of running just over one mile. Well done to Mrs Hirst and Mrs Tebbutt who also participated. Is it a Bird, is it a Dragon?....... On Thursday, 4th October a giant egg with Chinese style writing mysteriously appeared on the school field. The whole school went out to study it after Mr Denovan (Year 1 class teacher), dressed in a safety hat and lab coat, had cordoned it off with tape and we all stood a little distance away, so that we were safe. The egg was sitting in a giant nest. Some of us discovered giant yellow footprints and large shiny blue scales scattered over the field. No one knows where it came from or what it is. However, we all had lots of amazing thoughts: some believed it was a dragon’s egg, with a baby dragon inside it; some thought it was a giant snake; others that it was a peacock, because of the beautiful scales which were discovered. Whilst we wrote up our thoughts on what the egg creature the egg might contain, it was moved into the school’s entrance and placed near a radiator to speed up the hatching process...... Cross Country Twelve schools visited Althorpe and Keadby Primary School on Wednesday 3rd October to participate in the first Scunthorpe Sports Federation cross country race of the season. The atmosphere was brilliant and the standard high - with all the athletes completing the course in a good time. The course took the runners through the school’s very own Bramblebank Wood, which made the race even more exciting. Gone Fishing at Althorpe & Keadby I caught a fish and it was THIS BIG! These are our Champion fishermen: (Left to Right) Ryan Elviss, Brandon Marshall, Callum Rusling and Eddie Hind

Axholme Camera Club held its first Competition for the 2012-13 season. It was a print competition and the subject was “OPEN” this was selected by the committee to give freedom of choice for the members. The competition was judged by Mr Ray Brightman FRPS, DPAGB, from Sheffield. Prior to judging Ray explained that he had been retired for nineteen (19) years having spent most of his working life has a Professional Photographer working for different companies mainly in Yorkshire. He has been a member of Sheffield Photographic Society for many years. He has also in the past held the position of President of the YPU (Young Photographers United). The judge gave his praises and said that the overall quality of the images on show were very good, and wished he could take some of the home. Once again it shows that the members get a great deal of enjoyment out of competitions with a very good showing of images, both in numbers and quality. The subjects of the images entered varied tremendously, there was scenic landscapes, bridges, plus portraits of people and animals such as a Gorilla, a giant slug, a Zebra and also exotic bird. We also had a large section of entries depicting natural history, with cheetahs, Leopard, Squirrels both grey and red. In all there were 59 entries in total with 44 coloured and 15 monochrome. The high scorers were, in the Coloured Section – George Fiddler 19 and 20. Jean Goodburne 20 and 20. David Hughes 18. Parry Jenkins 18. Mandy Steer 18. Cliff Steer 18. John Dunbar 18 and 20. Peter Webster 19. Angie Skidmore 18 and 18. and Jill Bratcher 18 and 20. In the monochrome section – George Fiddler 19. Jean Goodburne 20. Parry Jenkins 18. David Livsey 20. Lynda Rhodes 18. John Dunbar 19. and Angie Skidmore 20. Well done a everyone who took part Towards the end of our last photographic season, Axholme Camera Club committee asked the members for suggestions of items they would like to see on the program for the forth coming season. Hence, before the start of the 2012-13 season the club committee sat down and designed a program which tried to fulfil all the positive suggestions received. One of the outstanding comments was to engage more experienced speakers. On Wednesday 3rd October we had the first Open Evening and there was a fantastic turn out of members and guests. Our speaker was Mr John Gardener from Wakefield. John is a Professional Photographer, his special areas are, Portraits, Weddings, Portfolios and commercial advertising work etc. He became a professional about twelve years ago, in them days specialising in Natural History, however, it didn't take long to discover that he would need to expand his portfolio in order to keep paying his Red Squirrel by George Fiddler bills. Today John is in great demand and now does about forty Weddings plus his commercial and advertising commitments. He has his own studio but is also feels very comfortable when asked by companies to photograph products on location. The talk and digital slide show he gave was extremely entertaining, plus the images themselves where very creative and outstanding in quality and it was agreed by the committee that he has a wealth of creative talent and experience. The talk started with wide range of natural history subjects and followed on with images of weddings and commercial products, including bricks, cars, buses and not forgetting some items of ladies and men's under wear. For those interested and wishing to see more of John's work he as a web site www.johngardenerphotography.com The program for November is; Wednesday 7th Nov 2012 - Competition - Subject - Street Photography, the Judge is Marylyn Shenton ARPS. Tuesday 13th Nov 2012 - Educational Talk on Montage by Dr Jan Haskin Wednesday 21st Nov 2012 - Inter Club Competition - against Castle Hill RSL Photography Club. Tuesday 27th Nov 2012 - Educational Talk "The Camera and Its Functions" by Alan Townsend
