This pretty girl is Jenny, a two year old Terrier Cross who is looking for her new home. Jenny is a lovely friendly girl, she loves people, and her tail is always wagging. She is ok with most other dogs and would be fine with older children, but not cats. If you are interested in adopting Jenny, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705.

Local animal shelter Isle Rescue benefited from a Sponsored Dog Walk in Crowle on the 11th of October organised by Dog Groomer Lauren Drayton from Wet Noses Dog Spa and equestrian and pet supplier Lianne Taylor from The Feed Room. The Walk started from The Feed Room’s Shop at Oakley Equestrian Centre on the Godnow Road, and covered almost 8 miles, although there were two shorter routes. The turnout was great and almost all of the walkers completed the full walk with their dogs, ending back at the Café at the Equestrian Centre. The Walk raised a fantastic £320 for the Rescue, and everyone would like to thank Lauren and Lianne for organising the Walk and everyone at the Equestrian Centre for their hospitality- and delicious bacon sandwiches, and of course everyone who took part and all of the sponsors. The Walk has been such a success, we will be organising another one in the spring

Community News CHAPEL ISSUES BIRTHDAY INVITATION Fancy a birthday bash amongst friendly company with entertainment thrown in followed by scrumptious cakes, buns and a cuppa? Then pop along to Crowle Methodist Church in Fieldside on Sunday 16th November and enjoy yourself for free! There’s an open invitation to residents of Crowle and Ealand to join in our Chapel’s 110th birthday celebrations starting at 2.30pm with a special ‘Songs of Praise’ event featuring guest singers, Gemma and Michael. The special anniversary service will be conducted by our Minister, Rev Duncan MacBean. Chapel spokesperson Roy Briggs says: “To mark this memorable milestone our aim is to fill the place with at least 110 people. “So a warm welcome is extended to all who turn up. Please come along and help us to lift the roof – although, hopefully, not literally!” The Methodist Chapel is part of Crowle’s heritage and the present building was opened in 1904 at a cost of £3,278! One reason why the price was so low is due to the fact that two loyal members of the then congregation, George Mason and Mr E A Chapman, carted all the facing bricks from Crowle Wharf Station to the site as a labour of love. But Crowle’s link with Methodism goes back much farther in time as the predecessor to the present building was erected in 1836. Roy adds: “This Chapel has played an important role in the community for such a long time and it would be great if local families joined in our big day. We’re always here for anyone who needs help or guidance.”
Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust News Our next indoor meeting of the autumn is to be held at The Stephen Jones Hall, Low Street, Haxey on Thursday 6th November 2014 at 7.30 pm. The Guest speaker is Emma Warriner We look forward to welcoming all our members and new visitors. For further information please contact Geoff or Chris Trinder 01427 872051.
A Christmas Craft Fair will be held at Ealand Victory Hall, 10am3pm on Sunday 23rd November to raise funds for Scunthorpe Stroke Unit. There will be various craft stalls, raffle, tombola and refreshments. Admission by donation - all welcome. For further info call: 01724 711763.
Crowle Methodist Church turned back the clock on Saturday October 11 with a Gwen Shaw concert entitled 'The Good Old Days' and visitors turned up in style! The sing-along event featuring the Scunthorpebased Evergreen Choir included many old war-time favourites plus hits from the 1950's. Guests were asked to 'please dress up' for the nostalgia evening and the appeal did not go unheeded.
L-R -Rita Fretwell, Val Janssen and Mabel Clift
Chapel spokesperson Mabel Clift says: "Everyone entered into the spirit of the show and it proved a great success. It was suprising how many people made the effort to dress up for the occasion. "It made almost £200 of which £70 was donated to the choir who raise money for charities, whilst the balance of £123 went to church funds."

Crowle Cadets Beat It
2 Crowle Air Cadets recently attended the North Region Multi Activity Band Camp. The week long camp not only taught the cadets basic marching band skills, but also included a host of other activities.
Flight Sergeant Daniel Wheatley (18) and Corporal Daniel Brady (14) attended the week long camp. Both went to learn to play the marching snare drum. While both has experience of playing a drum kit, a marching snare was a different matter. By the end of the camp, both cadets had achieved the required standard to be awarded their Drummer Badges, the first for the Squadron.
Besides learning to play the drum, while also marching, the cadets also got to participate in many different activities. These included canoeing, clay target shooting and an obstacle course. The event was organised by North Region Music and provided cadets to opportunity to learn basic music skills or improve their skills, while working with other cadets from around the Region. Flight Lieutenant James Docherty, Officer Commanding Crowle Squadron, said “It was a great experience for the cadets. These are the first musical qualifications the Squadron has earned for a number of years. It has sparked a real interest among the other cadets.” He continued “However some of the cadets are now asking for ear plugs, as the drums can be very loud”
Music and camps are just a few of the many opportunities Air Cadets offer to its members, both cadets and staff. Air Cadets is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 12-17. It is also open to those over 20 who wish to join as a staff and assist in the running of such events and activities. If you are interested in finding out more about Air Cadets in Crowle visit us as www.crowleaircadets.co.uk or visit the Squadron on a Monday or Wednesday evening between 7pm – 9pm For more information please please visit the Squadron website To advertise call 01302 532676 or 07912 643010 12

The Axholme Academy was once again took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support for the third year running. The Academy was supported by friends, relatives and members of the local community along with all students and staff who thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to help support Macmillan fund raising event which took part after the sponsored walk. Event organiser Kathy O’Callaghan said ‘Thank you to all the students, staff, friends and families who provided the cakes for the sale and to the company that donated the tea, coffee, hot chocolate, milk and sugar and juices. We managed to raise a grand total of £368.25. The Axholme Academy Sponsored Walk
On Friday 26th September 2014, every student and staff member at The Axholme Academy took part in a 5 mile sponsored walk. This is an annual sponsored walk that the school organise in an aim to raise money for the The Axholme Academy School Fund. This fund is aimed at providing discounted educational trips and events for the students; therefore the money raised goes straight towards their own educational experiences.
The walk takes the students around different parts of Crowle, including over the rail tracks, down by the canal and through the village. Most of the school took the walk at a good steady pace and it took approximately two hours to complete. All of the students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the walk and are hoping to raise a considerable amount of money. They were then treated to a hot drink and a cake at our annual MacMillan Coffee Morning.
Living History – Year 7 Murton Park visit Year 7 of the Axholme Academy didn't just study history but lived it this week when they spent the day being Vikings in Dark Ages York. The students, who are currently studying England in the era of the Norman Conquest travelled in space to Murton Park, just outside of York and in time, to the 11th century. During the day the students helped run a Dark Ages house, worked with clay to make oil lamps, farmed the land and learnt how to defend it from raiders. 'It was fantastic!' said Daniel Bradshaw. 'I really enjoyed the pottery most.' Richard Thorpe, History teacher at The Axholme Academy added 'this really brings the past alive. Living in a Viking long house teaches you, if nothing else, you can't storm out to your bedroom after an argument - there is only one room for eating, sleeping and working!
