Neighbourhood Policing Priorities as agreed by the Neighbourhood Action Team Meeting which was held on Tuesday 15th September 2015 -Full details can be viewed on www.humberside.police.uk Ongoing Issues Market Place =Youths causing annoyance – This still remains a priority even though this summer has been one of the quietest with few incidents. This area will be monitored as the Youth Club has just moved into the Market Place. Eastoft Road, Luddington = Speeding Vehicles – Reports have been received regarding speeding vehicles in this area especially at school times. Warning letters will be sent out in conjunction with Safer Neighbourhoods to drivers of vehicles that are identified. Please note that each individual case will be closely looked at and drivers run the risk of being issued with a Section 59 Warning under Road Traffic Legislation which means if the same driver is found driving carelessly or in an inconsiderate way that they may have their vehicles seized by the Police. Generation Park = Disorderly and Drunken Behaviour – Problems have started up again regarding this issue. Residents have not reported issues due to fear of reprisal. This area will be monitored and The Local Neighbourhood Team as asking residents to speak to them regarding incidents when they are in the area. Poaching = The countryside may look peaceful and idyllic but farmers/landowners still have the problem of poaching which Humberside Police take seriously. Poaching is the illegal trapping of game or fish on private or public land. We continue to liaise with farmers/landowners regarding any problems that they encounter and to identify where offences and offenders are committing these acts. Due to the lighter nights and improving weather, calls for this will be on the increase, so please if anyone sees anything of concern report it on 101. As always our non-emergency number is 101, and in an emergency please dial 999, Regards from Dean, Wendy and Paul.

The Axholme Academy Sponsored Walk On Friday 25th September 2015, every student and staff member at The Axholme Academy took part in a 5 mile sponsored walk. This is an annual event that the school organises to raise money for the Academy School Fund. This fund is aimed at supporting educational trips and events for the students; therefore the money raised goes straight towards their own educational experiences. The walk takes the students around different parts of Crowle, including along the canalside and through the village. Most of the school took the walk at a good steady pace and it took approximately two hours to complete. All of the students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the walk and have raised a magnificent £754.10 so far.
They were then treated to a hot drink and a cake at our annual MacMillan Coffee Morning.
Living History – Year 7 Murton Park visit Year 7 of the Axholme Academy didn't just study history but lived it this week when they spent the day being Vikings in Dark Ages York. A record number of students, who are currently studying the History of York in the Dark Ages travelled in space to Murton Park, just outside of York and in time, to the 11th century. During the day the students helped run a Dark Ages house, worked with clay to make oil lamps, farmed the land and learnt how to defend it from raiders. 'It was fantastic!' said Jack Shaw. 'I really enjoyed the pottery most.' Richard Thorpe, History teacher at The Axholme Academy added 'this really brings the past alive. Living in a Viking long house teaches you, if nothing else, you can't storm out to your bedroom after an argument there is only one room for eating, sleeping and working!
Macmillan Coffee Morning The Axholme Academy took part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support for the 4th year running. The Academy was supported by friends, relatives and members of the local community along with all students and staff who thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to help support Macmillan fund raising event which took part after the sponsored walk. Event organiser Kathy O’Callaghan said “Congratulations to everyone involved at The Axholme Academy Macmillan Coffee Morning for their donations, to my helpers Mrs Louise Bunce and Mrs Lisa Pearce for all their help and hard work, and a massive thank you to everyone that came along and helped us raise £425.55 thank you all”.

Now & Then - Then & Now by Anthony Catherall
Many people driving towards Scunthorpe, pass through Main Street Althorpe. I wonder how many stop and take a look at the Parish Church of St Oswald. I wondered to myself whilst I stood in its grounds recently, how many other churches in Britain have their foundations so close to a major river. Above, a charming scene of the church and part of its burial ground that has largely and sadly, disappeared along with other Isle churches. During the 1960's, it was fashionable to clear and level the burial ground directly circumventing the church and removing some fine monuments. (This removal also sadly happened on the northern side of St Andrews Epworth). Here a well dressed Edwardian family are visiting St Oswald's, rebuilt in 1483 for Sir John Neville. Mother and child admire the stones as father returns from his tour. Many people including me, get peace and tranquilty from strolling around our local churches and observing the gravestones. I often consider that due to such previous culling in graveyards, if that action takes something away from us and foreign visitors that love English churches and their surrounds. It may even have contributed to current low church attendances, did relatives rebel? If we look at my photograph taken in December 2014 below, we see a similar view now bland and leaf strewn, only one solitary cross monument remains, very close and strangely camouflaged by the stone wall of the church. (Inset) a similar view of Epworth Church in the first decade of 20th century.

This adorable boy is Max, a four year old roughcoated Jack Russell Terrier. Max is a really friendly, affectionate dog who is happy to cuddle on the sofa with you and keep you company. Typical of the breed he is a busy, energetic boy who needs an active home with a garden to run around in. He is ok with some other dogs but not cats, so he would be best as an only pet. Older children only. Max is neutered and fully vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting Max, please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705

Free Citizens Advice Debt Service Available North East Doncaster Citizens Advice have seen a huge increase in the number of people seeking help with debt issues. During the first 3 months of the year we handled almost £1.7 million of debt with almost 500 people turning to us for help with debts during that period. The rising cost of energy, food and housing is putting extra pressure on people's finances, with no end to the problem in sight. Karen Bothamley, Chief Officer, North East Doncaster CAB, said: “Some budgets are at breaking point - people who have never experienced money worries before are finding their finances increasingly tight as rises in day to day spending like keeping their home warm, getting to work and putting food on the table is sending them over the edge. “Payday loans, credit cards and overdrafts are being used to top up people's income as wages are static. There are things people can do to get on top of their finances, including making sure they're getting all of the help available, aren't paying over the odds for things like gas and electricity and prioritising their spending to make sure there is money for essentials like rent, energy bills and water. It is important people don't wait for debts to mount before they seek help. A few early actions could stave off a future financial meltdown. “If we can help, please contact us on 01302 846745 or 01405 741457. We won’t judge, and our service is free and completely confidential.” North East Doncaster CAB is a registered charity number 1096497 providing free, confidential, independent and impartial advice on any subject to all, without discrimination for any reason. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority no. 617681
